UAAP season 87

  • Thread starter Thread starter Silent Killer2

This ateneo team feels like the bo perasol years, not sure how far a great system/great coaching could take them. Still not counting them out

this has to be the worst start of ateneo in the tab baldwin era

Maybe a hot take but I never got the hype for Cabanero, feels like hes on the same tier as Rey Suerte.

he regressed in terms of efficiency so far. two seasons ago he was putting MVP worthy numbers but has cratered so far

Right? like for every team, you could literally have a 6'2 guy who plays as guard/wing as your star player. Especially when that team is rebuilding.

The skillset for that position is just common in PH basketball standard.

Hmm id like to see them play teams in their tier first like adamson and ue to see how bad they really are. Looking at their frist 2 games, UP and UST, we can already say both teams are just ways above them.

Is it because he doesnt have the ball as much as he did the last few seasons ago? I thought having a quality pg in padrigao will help him out

Maybe Marasigan is ready after all.

If you follow their preseason games like Pinoyliga, there are games wherein he is the main source of offense same with Dungo. Dungo reminds me of Andrei Caracut during his rookie year. Konov hopefully can deliver soon.

CJ Austria's injury is a blessing in disguise as it has given minutes to EJ Gollena who's showing his offensive skillset.

Time for Tab Baldwin to talk to Sage Tolentino again hahaha Maybe even Caelum Harris.

Not expecting much wins from Ateneo, specially in the first round. They'll be competitive but will falter at the end of games. The team is too young, and lacks a clear go-to-guy. FSA is clearly not good at this point in time. Early departures and unexpected transfers (extremely late at that, greatly affecting the offseason prep) really decimated the the team. Hopefully, they get their groove by the 2nd round to at least try and compete for a final 4 slot.

Kieffer Alas, please play for your dad. Haha

Even assuming that the late departures did not happen, I am surprised at the poor succession planning. Assuming that Balunggay had stayed, for example, this would have been his last playing year. But who would have been his "replacement" in Season 88?

They have someone in residency, 6'8 kymani ladi. But i think the lack of solid recruits from ahs is starting to catch up to them. Imo they need to rebuild the hs program again, do what FEU has been doing. Especially if they continue to recruit with a strict academic requirement that may turn off blue chip recruits. Atleast guys coming from ahs already knows whats expected of them if they continue on the seniors.

ateneo won championships with homegrown talents they have.. been together since juniors to seniors that won tab some championship..

transition of lead PG’s could’ve been good had padrigao behave himself..

For Season 88, it would've been

Y2 Balogun
Y3 Amos
Y1 Ladi
Y5 Lazaro
Y2 Porter

Pretty solid lineup there.

Ateneo lost Chiu, Balunggay, Amos for this year. That's a lot of height and minutes to make up for.

Demisana too if he decided to work on his grades and kyle ong for added depth.
