UAAP season 86

Looks like Ateneo sat out Koon, Balunggay and Gomez on their exhibition against Japan U-22 awhile ago.

Baldwin playing possum with the Sydney coaches. He did not play what amounts to his starting unit and Mason played only limited minutes. The young players showed composure. They gave up an 8 point half time lead but stormed back to take the lead and still hold of the Japanese team headed to the Jones Cup. On to the knockout games of the WUBS. If they keep winning, they avoid the relegation games. In the end of the day, the goal remain winning the UAAP championship. A difficult task when there are as many as 10 new players on the roster.

Sat out 6 players - Balunggay, Koon, Chiu, Gomez, Quitevis (not sure if he's currently injured), Garcia?.

Based on the picture, the 12 who played were: Obasa, Ong, Amos, Lazaro, Bongo, Tuano, Celis, Brown, Espinosa, Nieto, Gamber, Asoro

Ateneo's current pool stands at 18 - Tab will have to cut 2 more players for the final UAAP lineup. Based on overall play in the preseason, I think Asoro (didn't play much) and Garcia (IMO, underwhelmed/overtaken by other rookie guards) gets relegated to team B.

let's not overthink this. it's probably just load management. ever since the school year ended, ateneo has joined summer league after league. and yesterday was just an exhibition. not to mention some players have been getting injured so i think it's just wise to do load management.

there's no way paulie G gets relegated IMO. it's his last year and based on the summer leagues, he seems to have secured his spot. cutting him in his last playing year, i think, wouldn't be good for ateneo's future sales pitches to filams.

i also think so. but when it comes to making harder decision tab does it whether everyone likes it or not. but the way i see it is in the tournaments he is just giving other PG's time to shine.

I think this will depend on how many PGs tab will carry this season. Besides gomez, they have only nieto, brown and espinosa. Each have their strength and weaknesses. Agree with asoro getting cut, but if tab carries all four PGs, im thinking Ong might be relegated to team B, if one of the guards, im thinking nieto. Garcia i think makes it since hes a good 3 and D guy. Suprised to see opena not making this trip. Did he join their overseas training? Havent seen him in a while now. Also, where's credo?

credo is in japan. asoro's inclusion to the japan trip is surprising. opena not joining the trip is no surprise since it's been pretty evident that he'll still be in team b this upcoming season with kobe, asoro and matt de luna.

Is the University of Sydney strong?

From what I know, the best young prospects in Australia are either playing in the US NCAA, AIS or being recruited in the NBL as NS, DP or even SRP.

They look like high schoolers from what is saw. I dunno if its because of how good ateneo is right now or because Size and skill is just far off between them and ateneo. Lots of wasted possession because of to's. Heck one of em cant even make a free throw, shooting mechanic is way off. Maybe they're like a jv team of syndey uni, coz any other uaap team or ncaa teams like san beda and csb might have even beat them.

College sports is a luxury among a vast majority of world universities and colleges. It Is only in the US and in Asians schools that collegiate sports is important. Even in Canada, college sports can only be considered aT best D-II or III.
