oh, are they related? i never looked in to that. The villavicencio who backs DLSU that I know of is Vicvic of triple V, Dads, kamayan, and now the his kids manage Sombokojin (spelling?) and similar all you can eat buffets.

They are related. The Vargas, Villavicencio and Eduque are intertwined by marriage. The jock of the family and former point guard and coach of DLSU, Vergil Villavicencio used to be team manager of an MVP team because he is first cousins with Vargas who is one of MVP’s trusted lieutenants. They used to live in a huge compound in Mandaluyong. Late DLSU coach Tito Eduque was their uncle, while Gen. Vargas who was big in Philippine sports was the grandfather of the family tree.

nice history there, thank you.

DLSU is bankrolled by the Davao group of Mans Carpio, the Romeros, Dennis Uy (Phx Petroleum) and I think SMC is still in the mix through the Villasenor group (someone correct me on this)

You forgot the Razors (ICTSI). Mikee Romero and Dennis Uy, I don't think so.

I don't think that Chua will have that much clout in the UAAP like he has in the NCAA. The league has been in an armsrace for quite sometime now. Teams are backed by big people. Bigger people than long hair. He does not want to mess up with Remulla and Carpio, does he? Also, although MVP has San Beda in the NCAA, the school is more like an afterthought compared to the support Ateneo receives from him. Add to that, Ateneo has bigtime boosters beside MVP.

The shenanigans of Long Hair and Jose Manalo might not work in the UAAP. The way I see it, they will just go with the flow.

Carpio is being given too much credit. First, he doesn't come from money and doesn't have much money (specially when compared to Razon and Villavicencios). He won't and can't "bankroll" the team.

Second, it's public knowledge that he and Sara are done. I think he is just there because he's a big basketball fan. That's it. It's more like the boosters accommodated him and not the other way around.

Phoenix Dennis Uy has nothing to do with DLSU basketball.

how about romero? is he still financing dlsu or just purchased a roster spot for his son?

Here are the results from the continuing action of the PG Flex Linoleum Invitational Tournament at the SGS Stadium Wednesday. Olivarez College records a monumental upset of UAAP champion Ateneo de Manila University, 95-68. READ MORE

Ice danting moves to UST. Knew a move was coming since he hasnt been spotted with ateneo for a long time. Reunites with a couple of his phenom buddies in ust

With Padrigao still not playing for ateneo and if he's out for next season, who do you think will start at pg for the blue eagles?

Gomez will probably be PG1. Not sure who his alternates will be though. Espinosa is shaky, while Brown and Garcia are natural shooting guards. Gamber, from what I’ve seen in UCBL, is a 2 or 3 and not a PG. Nieto maybe? But he’s more of an SG as well.

Having koon in the starting lineup definetly helps as the secondary playmaker whoever starts at pg. Agree, with espinosa needing to improve his decision making, while brown is more of a catch and shoot kind of guy. Nieto i think isnt ready for big minutes this year.

No, it doesn't. Only residency after transferring from one UAAP school to another.

thanks,. could be a blessing for Ateneo, since they extend forthsky’s eligibility, now its up for the next guy on the roster to step up

though a part of me thinks that long hair or jonvic could do some magic and lure padrigao out of katipunan

It was a battle of 2 UST teams earlier at the Sulit BBI. The team w/ Peter Osang fielded a 7-man lineup, with Ashon Andrews, Geremy Robinson, Paranada, Leland Estacio, Escobido, and Jiro Sevilla (from team B and DLSZ).

They still handily won against the team with Tounkara, Danting, and a bunch of other aspirants from team b. Ice played better on his 2nd game with them, while Tounkara is still a kangkarot.
