UAAP season 86

  • Thread starter Thread starter Silent Killer2
  • Start date Start date
looks like this will be the lineup for la salle this coming season 86. either alao or estacio for the last spot, buensalida at this point might not make it.

I will be surprised if he makes it. The following guys played earlier:

M Phillips
E Nelle
K Quiambao
M Nonoy
E Abadam

J Policarpio
B Phillips
B Nwanko
C Austria
J David

E Gollena
R Cortez
J Macalalag
F Escandor
J Manuel

If Alao makes it, it means that he, David, Policarpio and Gollena basically replaced Winston, Blanco, Buensalida and Estacio from last year. Despite a lot of news on their recruits, DLSU's newcomers in its projected Season 86 lineup are guys who are have been with the team for at least a year (and were just either redshirted for various reasons or not yet eligible).

Estacio hurt his head bad in Pinoyliga. Hope he is fine but Id guess thats the reason we havent seen him since then.

Alao was impressive lately in the dleague while estacio was good playing as the backup PG for Evan last season. Coach JB Sison can vouch for him.

High chance he doesn't get lined up from what I'm hearing. Some baffling decisions being made by Tab and his coaching staff, but as the ateneans always say, trust in Tab I guess.

Seems like he wasn't really a "Tab recruit" which is why some of the raw fil-ams and possibly Kyle Ong are making it over him. I hope for the betterment of PH basketball they wake up to the talent they have on their hands though. People like to say ADMU is ahead of the curve in terms of running a basketball program but a lot of old-head concepts like seniority and favoritism overshadowing talent are still very much in practive.

Not true. Reason why he wont be rostered asap is for a differnt reason.

Is this academics again?

ah no.

personally, i think it would be beneficial for him to sit out a year anyways. i dont think he's cracking the rotation right now and he's still young. next year, he'd probably get a more prominent role with a year of training and adjusting to ateneo life under his belt. he's only just 18.

I hope he and his family is ok with this. The reason he went to Ateneo was for exposure. From what I've seen, the other Ateneo bigs are not much better than him or have the same potential. UP at least seems to give PT to all its recruits in the Pinoy Liga and Filoil. To me it doesn't look good if they can't even give him that after pirating him from UP. From the few minutes he played I don't think he is much worse than any of the bigs Ateneo has. In fact, I think they will be eaten alive by DLSU and UP if Gian Chiu is their only backup rim protector.

someone from UPIS correct me if im wrong but one of the probable reasons why kobe isn't playing all that much in the preseason is because the UPIS school calendar is different. it ends much later. and i wouldn't go as far as to say ateneo pirated him from up. maybe he wanted to transfer after seeing up recruit 4 or 5 big men who are just as young as him? let's just wait for the news. with or without kobe, i think ateneo will be eaten alive by both dlsu and up. i think their rosters are just that more superior.

I agree that Demisana could benefit from a year’s worth of Team B seasoning. (The extra year’s worth of eligibility wouldn’t hurt as well.)

I agree that UP and DLSU’s lineups are more loaded than Ateneo’s.

I disagree though that both those teams would likely be successful at having Ateneo “eaten up alive”.

As the UAAP has time and again seen and learned from both Ateneo and CTB, ever since the latter began handling the Blue Eagles, it matters little if the Ateneo roster is peppered with “lesser” names. I will go out on a limb and hazard my opinion that Ateneo will be in the thick of the fight for the championship.

The thing is Obasa is no Kouame. And Chiu is not even as good as Isaac Go. Chiu has decent skills. But the guys is so soft for a 6'10 guy of his frame. He falls after every contact. I don't think that center rotation will cut it.

Obasa is no koume but he's improving game by game. The fact is he doesnt need to be like koume for ateneo to win, just need to do his role efficiently and minimize mistakes. Let forthsky, ballungay, koon and the filfors handle the offense. Have him anchor the defense. This team is coming along slowly and we havent even seen gamber play with them. Lets wait til uaap starts and see how this team will go.

Ateneo has at least won a championship with a far weaker line-up (versus their opponent) in the past. They also won last season, despite everyone (even Ateneo fans) thinking they're final four material at best.

I wouldnt worry about Demisana in team b for a year. See: Gian Mamuyac

Based on Ateneo’s performance, who do you guys think would make it to their final s86 roster? They honestly have a handful of recruits too.

So funny to me that it seems like Diouf will be getting away with a blatant and public infraction of the UAAP eligibility rules. Seems like Gov's influence spreads far and wide.

Both from people within and near the team and from his recent performances alone, Celis is a shoo-in.

Celis has been good honestly. I really like Opena’s game and I think he’s easily the best among the remaining fil fors but Brown, Tuano, and Bongo have been playing consistently with the main guys all throughout the preseason. I think that tells a lot.

i really hope so. he's my favorite ateneo recruit so far. afaik he played as a forward in HS but is being used as a ball handler this off season. very tough player with some shooting, handles, and good vision. easily the most uaap ready player amongst ateneo's recruits not named amos IMHO.

I like him as well, might even be a better fit than most of the filfors. Tho i doubt him overtaking the filfors above him on the depthchart especially those with only a couple more years left of eligibility. Will benefit a year in team b, same reason why demisana might not make it to team A this year. We'll see, im a fan of both and would love to see both make it.

I’m guessing Quitevis will also be a shoo in since he was touted to be their next leader as early as the end of last season. Can’t wait for Gamber to play, not really convinced with his game especially with his Batang Gilas stint.
