UAAP season 86

if up loses this season's chip that's 3 finals losses in 4 appearances - kinda good but kinda bad as it shows that they're incapable of getting the job done.

truth to be told their championship came on a lucky shot by cagulangan

82-60 win for DLSU

The most bravest player in RP is the best player of the game with 4 pts 5 steals 12 rebounds 10 assists

nelle shot poorly but he sent a message with his toughness and tenacity, that block on cj was a statement

Saw a few minutes of the 4th and it seems to me the calls were not going UPs way. I dont know how UAAP does call reviews but I am not a fan of not seeing the replay. Was it shown live? Malick Dious offensive foul call seems spurious to me. Malick was driving. It didnt look like an offensive foul to me. It seems to me the physicality that was allowed UP turned the opposite and even normal basketball plays become offensive fouls.

You mean the elbow to the face? Nah, that's a clear foul. He was lucky the refs didn't deem it enough to merit an unsportsmanlike, the nasty elbow could've caused a concussion. On the other hand, the 4th foul on Malick is the iffy one for me - Philips aggressively backing him down, and they called Malick for the pull rather than the offensive foul on Philips.

In any case, we have a game 3. Hopefully, we get a good one, preferably a close game as games 1 and 2 have been landslides by the 4th quarter.

diouf got kq square on the jaw, both teams got their fair share of non-calls - abadiano's kick wasn't called right?

Correct me if Im wrong. The game was close until Diouf got into foul trouble. I think the FSAs usually dont get the benefit of the call. Guards can throw their bodies against the FSAs ala NBA and get foul calls. Unlike in Fiba were bigs are protected when they are vertical. Ive seen Kouame in foul trouble. But Ateneo was very good at holding the fort when Kouame needs to sit. Ive been saying that Diouf is UPs MVP. And it seems this game his early foul trouble caused their early deficit. I only saw the 4th but if the non call on Philipps was how they called Diouf in this game I would understand how they lost. Diouf was driving Im not sure where else Diouf couldve placed his elbow. He is 7 feet and KQ is 6’5. It was a good basketball move. KQ just got to the spot earlier.

The bravest player in RP dint mention his GF in his post game interview. Hope kitnelle is still together to avoid off the court distractions during the finals.

Because our import is worse than a local.

I was hoping he’d get garbage time once Diouf fouled out. Speaking of which, UP had the right idea with all those drop passes when La Salle started to hedge the pick and roll… they were just missing a lot of point blank looks. On the other end, La Salle caught fire from the outside.

Hence, the foul. Diouf slipped the screen, got the pass, turned around, but KQ was already there, and Diouf's arm motion unfortunately landed an elbow to the face of KQ. It's similar to someone drawing a foul. I don't think UP even challenged the call. By the way, Diouf was arguing that KQ flopped but replays clearly showed that the elbow landed squarely on the side of KQ's face.

On the 4th foul, I'm not even saying that the refs made the wrong call, there was still a pull from Diouf. However, at least that foul you'd have an easier time arguing that it could go the other way, (versus the 5th one - elbow to the face of KQ).

You are correct though, UP with Diouf versus UP without Diouf is night and day. For all the local/fil-foreign bigs that they've recruited and in the lineup (Pablo/Alter/Belmonte/Gagate), none can affect the game defensively as Diouf does.

i think they are already living together (based on kitty duterte’s ig/socmed posts)

edit: if they break up not even the ICC can ensure Nelle’s safety

I’m not a fan of UP’s early offense. It takes away opportunities to get a better shot selection. It looks huried and impatient.

DLSU despite the slow 2-12 start, took better shot selections by being deliberate and constantly moving the ball to create a better shot. They shot better, rebounded better and shared the ball better.

Still sticking for a DLSU championship.

UP's transition game and defense is a crutch. Take that away by making sure of your shots, they're not that effective in the halfcourt.

Don’t they all live in the athletes’ dorm during the season?
