UAAP season 86

Well, Koon did his part in closing out UP tonight. Took shots with contact, attacked mismatches, and good shots off the dribble.

Yes. He has to do that. He was a big part of their championship. If UP insists on matching 6'0/6'1 Alarcon on him, he has to make them pay.

Ateneo milked that matchup a lot.

Hope that gets Goldwin to play bigger lineups against La Salle and Ateneo. Yes, Torculas and Lopez have a hard time shooting, but Belmonte shows a good stroke, he can be the floor spacer to put Torculas and Lopez at 3. Chicco Briones has to see more floor time at 3 too.

And guys were pushing the panic button and calling Amos Troy Rike 2.0 lol.

Great to hear him say in the interview that he has a lot of development ahead of him and that he's trusting his coach. The elite shooting has always been there, but the way he rebounded last night and playing with grit were signs of good growth. I don't mind him being a stretch 4, I think he can develop his strength much further. He just turned 19.

Cansino is pro-ready and I would say Gilas pool-ready. His improved 3-pt shooting has made him difficult to stop. He knew (and had a feeling) he could single-handedly win the game if they let him, thus his taunts. His confidence was on another level.

UP is just too deep. What more next season when Gani Stevens comes in.
I think 7 should transfer if he wants more playing time

yeah. hope he goes to UST. he will thrive there. UP is just hoarding right now to the detriment of the players.

speaking of troy rike. is he still playing basketball? i wonder why he never joined the PBA draft?

Love him or hate him, I wish Tab continues to coach in the Philippines.

I don't think anyone will argue that UP is a super team. Loaded with talented players, excellent coaching and topnotch training. The level of UP's quality has been raised so high in order to compete with ADMU. Them losing last night, will only make them strive to get even better.

Tab not only raised the level of ADMU but it also raises UP and all the other teams that want to contend.

This is what we want, for teams to all raise their quality. Iron sharpens iron. It's a race to the top instead of gaming the system.

coach tab baldwin is just too good for college. he should be our NT coach.

I think that ship has sailed.

However, him coaching at the college-level actually impacts our young and still developing players which I think is great in itself.

Actually, he was drafted by NorthPort. Didn't amount to much. Played minimal minutes with them in his lone PBA season.

oh ok.i did not catch that. after northport where did he go? it seems like he cant be found anywhere in any team.

nah he cant do what timmy cone did - short preparation time with a rag tag team

ateneo won't even make the final four this year ahahahaha

indeed.but i think coach tab is very happy with where he is at now. and it pays well for him. at that point in his age, he just wants to have a good life and a meaningful job. he is nearing retirement. i think he will retire with ateneo. some say this is his last ateneo stint. but i doubt it. tab likes to develop players, thats his passion.

What a mini-breakout game for Amos there. Those buckets bailed out the Eagles bigtime. Great game too from Belmonte and Torres. I hope that Lopez injury ain't serious, it looked non-contact if I'm not mistaken

hihihihi lebron lopez was his man hihihihi

true. they sharpen each other. UP is a damn good team. its like a chess match between ateneo and up. tbh i was expecting ateneo to lose this first round considering that they had a roster revamp. but seeing them developed at this early is quite scary. there are so many areas to improve specially on turnovers but damn, their defense is top notch.

yeah it seems like its a very minor one. lopez was okay after the game. amos just schooled him. i was wondering why UP played lopez as PF. i honestly think he is more SF.

He has mentioned it frequently, his goal is always to develop players. The winning is a bonus if you do the developing correctly. I think he enjoys the challenge in the developing part.

Hopefully him recruiting plenty of 18-19 year olds (unlike getting 1-and-dones or 2-and-throughs) means that he still plans to continue doing that.

Scouting report probably was that Amos is just a jump-shooter so you can put a smaller but quicker player to guard him very tight. They did not expect him to put the ball on the floor or to do stepback threes like that.

Lopez is still allowed to play from the perimeter. It just so happened that UP has too many rotation-quality guards.
