Turkish Prospects

He is amazing. I saw different scenes in the U14 Championship being one year younger. He was creating shots from the three pointer with a step back and he is so fluent when he goes to the rim.
Deniz Efe Ünlü´s most impressive skills are his 1v1 ability, his motor, his straight brutal style. Step back etc. these things are not important at that age.
The problem with Deniz Efe is, he was much bigger as other kids at U12 and last season at U13(against U14) he was still one of the biggest kids in his team and now, in just 6-7 months other kids are bigger and his height looks just average + other bad sign is, he has too big muscles.

the blond kid is Can Mumcuogullari(Cihan Mumcuogullari´s son), Deniz Efe was bigger 6 months ago and now Can is clearly bigger.
In this video you can see how average his height is.
Deniz Efe Ünlü is not PG. Metecan Birsen, Okben Ulubay, Tolga Gecim were all at least 190 at U14. Furkan Korkmaz was 193 with 15 and totally unmature. Last example Mehmet Demirözü was 190 or more at his U14 season and now he is close to 200 and Deniz Efe is 185 and no real growing lately, very bad sings.

Efes has another Ünlü(not related to Deniz Efe) with Kerem Ünlü(2013), he is talented but mature too. We must always speak the truth.

It seems Mehmet Efe Demirel is the first Turkish player who will benefit from the NCAA. Tunca again with a solid game after couple bad games and I consider Büyüktuncel still to be a great asset. He is one of the most defensive versatile European bigs

@TurkfromGermany I’m curious about your thoughts on Derin Saran. I’m sure you’ve been following Derin from a very young age. What level do you see him belonging to?
Derin Saran looked amazingly talented at U12 and was a midget therefore i have noticed him. At U14 he looked still very talented but didnt dominate and was solid/good and had his only NT experience in a U14 friendly tournament and looked most likely there too as the most talented kid in a very interesting 2004 generation at that time. And then in the next 2 seasons his body catched up and in his last season in Turkey(corona break) he had absolutely no disadvantages anymore with his body but very surprisingly he didnt dominate. If player is really talented, he must dominate his U16 domastic games and if talented kid has no anymore physical disadvantages he must start dominate those kind of games more and more but this didnt happen, big big surprise.

This is the crucial point for me, you are looking really talented and your body catches up, then you must dominate those U16 games, you have no excuse for that, if you dont dominate those games then your talent cant be so high. If you are a raw high upside kid, then you have excuses but if you understand the game, you have no excuses.

But i will still follow Derin Saran and believe that he could be interesting for turkish bb and looking forward to see him in europe. We cant ignore a turkish player with ballhandling and 1v1 ability. Not anymore as PG, he is now SG/PG i think. Never trust coaches, fikret dogan didnt chose him but sometimes that means nothing. A player like Tan Yildizoglu always had a lot of MPG for U-NT but he never had a future, i cant believe that a player like Tan was better than Derin in preparation.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share the story from the very beginning and for explaining all the details and background of the situation. I really appreciate you sharing such comprehensive information about the young players.

My boi Kutluay 12 points in 15 minutes and 2/3 from three but I havent watched the game yet. The most important part of his game right now is the ability to create his three pointer shot.

Yesterday I encountered a 2009 born boy playing for Karsiyaka whose name is Besir Briant. I dont know anything about his ethnic background but I dont think that he has Turkish roots or relatives. The kid has a Turkish pass and is in the list of the U17 NT.

I watched a game yesterday as I have already said and its a quite interesting kid. His wingspan is unreal and he is very nimble compared to his length. His touch as well as the ability to attack close outs is very promising but the real advantage he brings on the table is his defensive IQ. His positioning is great and he always has the correct distance to his opponent. From the way he plays the game of bb you can clearly see that he enjoys playing. His body is really made for playing bb.

Last summer we really overused Kutluay because our bigs were not ready to contribute. Is Besir an upgrade? I think yes but he is surely far away from being perfect. The last outstanding big was definitely Alperen Sengün.

Nebraska went 19-0 so far in this season. Considering their previous seasons, it is really impressive.

Buyuktuncel does not put eye catching stats but he gets heavy minutes in this successful team. He must have done something good to contribute beyond numbers. He is a winner type of a player. We saw it in the junior national team and now with Nebraska. So far, it is interesting that Nebraska does not have any NBA prospect in the mock drafts.

Anyway, he still would be important for the national team. He still has room to improve.

I seriously don't understand how NCAA works, I tried to follow it before as well but sometimes teams have this crazy runs but still doesn't make the March Madness which heavily affects the draft potential of the guys. Berke has potential of a modern 4 like Jabari Smith Jr. Not good stats but effects the game in a good way. But he needs to show that where it matters. I still don't know if Nebraska can.

I am not also expert but I do not think the March Madness heavily affects the draft potential. Normally, the perception of the players are related to the regular season. Of course, the postseason has effect but it is not heavy unless put extremely bad or good performances.

Sometimes, some teams in the weaker conferences can have crazy runs but they face weaker teams. Nebraska is in a strong conference so it is not fake. They faced some good teams. Still there are other strong teams. It is not guaranteed that they will have a strong postseason. It is determined with one game.

Buyuktuncel is one of the most versatile players in the "Big Ten" and he has solid play making abilities. With the 7-8 points coming from him he is indeed very valuable.

Attention - its Omer Kutluay time!

Game of the season against Barca

First half report: Unlucky couple of turnovers at the beginning, and slept on rebound resulting in a 3. It was so important he made a statement with an out of the playbook 3 after the coach was about to sub him off, and a nice dish to Almansa. He wants to play vertical today and taking the match seriously on the offensive end.

It is a sad watch Madrid trying to grab a defensive rebound against this physicality.

Not playing Kutluay properly in the second half is crazy work :D Barcelona and Zaragoza are the important matches in this league, I was looking forward to see more of him. Wasted a Friday on this

He must have a problem. That number seven didnt play bad though. He started well but yeah.

A 14 pts 7 reb 9 ast stat line from Kutluay, with 3 TO and 50% FG shooting. Haven't watched the game yet but I'm sure it will be a nice Saturday morning treat!

He looked quite light on his feet both on offense and defense, yet strong. I liked his vertical mindset. He tried everything in his arsenal on offense, and navigated the screens nicely on defense. Canarias I would say are not a Madrid Barcelona Zaragoza level team but only a tier below so it was good to see this performance.

In the recent period, I often found his usage of his body as he moves with the ball a bit unconvincing, as in, he looked too timid and uncommifted, and struggled to sell the moves causing separation problems. Sure, the motor and tempo were there, but there was too much lateral playmaking and not much slashing. I understand these issues stem from Madrid's playstyle, and his body, but knowing what he is capable of and what he had shown, I wanted to see more vertical commitment. Nevertheless, both against Barcelona and Canarias he looked way better in this regard.. With Barcelona he struggled to deliver at times but the hungry/vertical mindset seemed to be there. And with Canarias he generated a lot. Good signs in this regard, and maybe, that seemingly lazy period was a result of lack of motivation against weaker teams and maybe some weak injury, which made him miss the final stage of Torneig Ciutat de l'Hospitale and possibly caused lack of minutes against Barca.

Overall, a promising development trajectory from the precious as he gets closer to his 17th birthday.
