Turkish Prospects

The only thing that Omer Kutluay lacks at this point is a true sign that he can create his three point shot. I love his all time focus and his relentless motor but he is also not the headless guy. His biggest strength is not his shot but he will be able to easily create his shot when he adds some strength. I could really not ask for more. He is also in great shape. He made 3 games in 3 days and played in two of them more than 35 minutes in average and didnt show any exhaustion. My biggest hope is him being ready for a role in the NT. I dont expect a Doncic role 2017 but he should be inserted asap. Considering his age hell add two more inches at least. Will help him especially on the defensive end.

Overall view after three prep games:

two of three opponents were at least solid. Slovenian U16 team was great in technical terms and individual skill set. Wouldnt be surprised at all if the Slovenian team reaches the semi finals next summer.

This Turkish team of the 2009 generation is really exceptional talented again. We can just compare the 2002 year with Alperen Sengun, David Mutaf and Tibet Gorener and the 95 generation with Cedi Osman and Kenan Sipahi. The 2004 generation was a very restricted team offensively but great on the defensive end.

We will have to wait at least two years to draw a trustworthy conclusion. At the moment we have Omer Kutluay and Karutasu as NBA prospects. Karutasu will probably end up as a point forward with 6'9 or 6'10 length and huge wingspan and fast legs. He is not as fluid as Demir Dogan or has top notch athleticism but has a great shot and great ball control. He should add some moves to change the direction though. Very promising atm. With a creator like Kutluay on his side hell make tons of shots and hell also get tons of Div I college offers.

Demir Ozturk has a very mature game for his age and he brings everything what this team needs. Rebounding, passing, court vision and shooting. He could turn out to be a great piece for Europe. Again a great asset for Europe from Efes.

Bora Simsek is also very talented but struggled with final decisions and the kid lacks resolve. He gives me Eray Buyukcangaz vibes. Too calm and too careless but surely very talented.

Emir Karabulut: very raw big, will dominate the rebounds just because of his length and fast legs and unlike our other bigs he can make fts but he does not like contact and struggles finishing at the rim. Still, we have better bigs than last summer. He has upside and this explains why Barcelona signed him two years ago. Unfortunately, he has no rolling routine.

There are solid role player potentials as well. Liked Omer Shik and Tibet Doruk Evin as well.

Generally spoken, very disciplined defensive team with huge offensive upside. We reached 90+ points in every game easily and defended very well. Unlike the other teams this team can make high percentage fts.

You mean this summer? If he can score 15ppg in U18 it will be a success. It's long long journey. He would be tiered into many pieces if he steps on PRO court. He's no where close. If he's transcendent prospect, he may wave some towels on the bench in 2027 WC if Turkey will make it.

In 2029 he will be 20yo. That most likely will be his start of campaign in the NT.

Well, it depends on our situation and development of the PG position but he is so talented that 2027 wc is a serious target for him.

There were some concern about Melih Tunca signing for TT Ankara and I have watched the first half of Tofas vs. TT Ankara. He played 9 minutes and contributed 5 points and 2 assists. He looks very secure on the court. He made two mistakes attacking the rim or lets say he didnt know what to do near the rim but its a learning process. All that I can say is he is developing in the right direction. He can handle the pressure bringing the ball and he controls the ball and the pace very well.

Hell probably pop up next season.

And despite being skinny he played very solid defense.

The Turkish U16 NT has won the prep tournament in Romania with three wins over a very strong Slovenia, host Romania and Bulgaria. It was a great tournament with hustle and effort on both ends of the games. The roles of the players became more visible.

Darius Karutasu became the MVP of the tournament and Omer Kutluay the best scorer but Omer should have been the MVP

Omer looks A LOT smaller than darius.... he's probably 190 max....

Omer is a PG and is slightly above 190cm Darius is 201cm and will probably end up between 206cm - 208cm. Different player types and we dont want Omer to be taller than 195.

Yes, because 2 best PGs in the game today are 198cm (Luka, SGA) :D

Luka should be 6'7 and you are taking again two anomalies that come talent wise every 100 years once or twice. Most of the PG lose fluidity and have less ball control with more height. The best offense and defense height for a play making PG is around 194-196cm.

Fair. It's rare. But ATM three best PGs in NBA are exactly those long one. SGA, Luka, Lamelo.

Berke Buyuktuncel had his best game in the NCAA with 16 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists with 3/4 from the three point range. He probably wont get drafted but its even better because his game suits Europe more and he can immediately perform in the EL. He should first learn Basketball in Europe and confirm his value and go then to the NBA if he wants to.

He has a huge frame and can easily defend almost any center in Europe. Should be a target piece in the Eurobasket 2025

You were so sure he's gonna become first rounder :)

There was a hope that he would develop that way. The truth is that his potential to score was low for the NBA and the hope was that he would become more selfish there. He is still offering a load of things that makes him very precious on the court. I think many slight injuries prevented him to show his true potentials but proving himself in the EL first is the more secure to develop

Samet Yigitoglu is finally showing everything we expected him to show, defense and elite rebounding. His touch around the rim will never be great and he really doesnt show any play making ability but he likes playing through contact and has the right mindset dunking the ball in his opponents face as soon as he sees the rim.

Alperen Sengun, Omer Yurtseven, Adem Bona and Samet Yigitoglu are our center pieces for the next 15 years. Really not bad.

The TBF U16 international tournament started yesterday with the game Serbia - Georgia and Turkey - Romania.

As was expected the Romanian team was too weak coping with the Turkish team but they played solid defense. The Turkish team is without Omer Kutluay who is with Real Madrid on the journey so we had the chance of taking a better look at Kartal Bora Simsek a very talented but also reckless guard.

I saw countless talented guards like him disappearing. I hope hell find his joy somewhere in the future since he is too talented but maybe he is carefree because of the prep games Idk.

On the other hand Darius Carutasu or Karutasu is a frightening complete prospect. There is nothing who cant do on the court. Really everything. His shots are great, he makes the correct reads all the time, he can solve every double teams by either putting the ball on the floor or playing the correct pass. He can also attack close outs with his great ball control. His BBIQ is above the roof.

At this point, I think he is even a greater prospect than Omer Kutluay. Omer has this leader gene though. Darius does not have it yet. Although he is the second best player he does not demand a leading role but looks like more of an elite role player. Technically the only two things he lacks are explosiveness and vertical leaping abilities.

Its too early but he looks like a top 5 prospect for every possible draft class.

I cant even imagine how he couldnt shine in the upcomming U16 EC in Turkey if you imagine that Omer will create everything for him.

The Turkish U16 team beats in the last game of the prep tournament in Turkey Serbia with 77:64.

The best players Omer Kutluay and Nikola Kusturica were absent though. Well, I am not amazed with this Serbian team.

I must say the more I watch Demir Ozturk the more I like his game. His game is more suited to Europe but he could end up being an exceptional passer and we know how special bigs with court vision and passing abilities are. I have been watching youth tournaments for more than 20 years and this 2009 generation could be with the highest ceiling. In any case they are among the top 3.

The 2004 generation was a rock solid defensive team but offense was really weak. This team has offense and defense and probably two NBA prospects.
