Turkish Prospects

At this point, I am really excited for the third year leap of Sengun. He is top 20 in all NBA almost every indicator. However, it is really hard to select 12 players for the National team at the moment. For me, only Sengun, Osman and Bona are locked. Korkmaz, Bitim, Yurtseven of course usual suspects. Arslan and Yılmaz having a nice season. Sipahi? I think it is really hard to decide rotation for Ataman. But one thing is clear that Sengun needs to play at 5 not at 4. I believe Bona can do better job than Jabari in defence. Offence is a question mark. I can not follow Turkish league this season properly because there is no player except Tunca to follow as a Turkish prospect. Therefore, I am not sure about the current performances of other Turkish players.

Derin Can Ustun started well in the Slovenian U19 tournament. He is really really talented even though his U16 EC performance was partly disappointing. I dont think that he has the flashiness for the NBA but he is perfect for the European game.

Melih Tunca, Derin Can Ustun or Omer Kutluay one of them will reach at least EL for sure maybe all three and Omer with his great passing skills has clear NBA potential for now. We need a solid play maker desperately.

Omer Kutluay is 2009 gen. It's a wild distance still. But the only Turkish elite (true) guard prospect. If that's your next big thing at guard, we are talking about the start of 30s basically. And it seems he is projected to be a scorer first, just as his father. Turkey in the firs place needs fundamentally sound true play maker. And this breed is basically non-existant in your country. That's the main issue. Even historically Turkey never had one truly elite point guard. Hedo is the best facilitator of all time, being 208cm forward. Derin Saran is interesting though.

No, Kutluays most impressive skill is passing but he seems to be able to do everything to a certain degree. Derin Can Ustun is the closest talent to Kutluay and is a very solid European prospect. Emre Melih Tuncas case depends on how much he wants to develop. The same issue goes for Derin Saran too. We will get 1-2 good pieces out of them.
 
We had Mert Akay(00), Omercan Ilyasoglu(01), Omer Yasir Kucuk(01) as above avarage PG-talents for turkish standarts but all 3 are not at the level they should be. Now we have a new trio and new dream. Melih Tunca(05), Derin Can Ustun(07), Omer Ege Ziyaettin(08). The last 3 are bigger talents, there is no doubt about it. Some aspects seperates Derin Can Ustun from all other turkish prospects and these are his safe ballhandling if it matters, his special driving skills and his fearlessness, no one has these attitudes.

For Ustun Spain would be better, he had offers from Spain too. In Yugoslavia, as a turk you will have always a hard time too get what your talent deserves. Efe Tahmaz(04) went to Serbia as a very interesting kid with 14 and immediately he played only as PF all these years and was last year as a bum back. I have checked his team, there were other 07 born players and he was last player who got a chance in the last game. This was the U19 Aba league, not slovenian league.

Omer Kutluay is a scorer, not PG. Real is using him most time as PG. This could help him if he doesnt reach the size of his father. But with his fathers size he must be a pure scorer, kid is a born scorer.

With 1-2 good perimeter players which really know how too ball turkish NT will be totally different. Just 1-2 EL-players with real impact in their EL-teams and turkish NT will be able to be competitive.​
 
While Kabaca statistically maintains his performance close to last season, his impact on the game seems far from the weight he had in the previous season. Undoubtedly, unhealthy team dynamics also play a role, but it appears challenging for him to reach the expected level higher this season. The upper limit of his current potential seems to be no more than that of a flawed Euroleague player. Even though his shot is sharp enough for his position, I don't believe a player with such defensive deficiencies can make a significant contribution at the Euroleague level. He might experience the Euroleague at some point in his career, but the key to being permanent there lies in making notable improvements in defense. Kabaca's issue is not just about being soft in defense but rather consistently making faulty defensive moves and decisions when he is behind the ball. He needs to learn the game from scratch in the defensive area, and this can be quite frustrating for a 23-year-old player. If the root that causes his defensive flaws would be physical reasons and reluctance, these could be short-term issues and solved with good development program. However, the problem of him is the lack of perception in the defensive aspect, thus the solution becomes much more challenging. This is the case with Kabaca.

Derin Saran again with an all-around game against Saint Diego. 14 points 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 22 minutes game time. The kids development is clearly visible and he impacts the game on both ends. He has the strength and the balance to finish near the rim, his shot looks clean (even though slow). He brings a lot of energy on the court. Clearly much better than Yildizoglu.

I will start to truly respect Turkish basketball if they will unleash this guy instead of random American in 2025 or rather 2027.
 
Ozgur Cengiz (05) has scored 12 points average in the last two games and had 5 assists and 3 steals today. He is with 18 a serious BSL player. After Sengun back then the youngest who could be entitled as such.

Derin Saran again with a solid game from the bench in his first year. 7/9 from the two and four assists. Shows solid rebounding ability for his position. His shot is not quick enough but very solid. I like his resilience when he attacks the rim. He is progressing linearly. Shows not much of a play maker though.

My Turkish guard prospect ranking is this

Tibet Gorener's player profile has experienced a significant decline in recent years. Originally expected to be a key player in a serious college team like Arizona, he transitioned to a lower-profile college team. Even playing professional basketball last year seemed questionable for him. While stagnation among Turkish players is not newsworthy, it was almost impossible to imagine that a player with such promising potential as Gorener could regress that much. Fortunately, this season, he is experiencing his best season in terms of his own career, signaling that he could at least be a player with a defined role in average teams. We can say that he has returned to basketball.

I like his shooting performance this season; aside from a few bad shooting games, he consistently shoots well and has elevated his role as a shooter, now attempting more off-the-dribble shots. This is a serious positive development. He could be a player who stands out for his shooting ability in mid-tier teams in Turkey. I don't think he will ever reach the Euroleague level, but he is likely to find himself in Eurocup/BCL-level teams with his title as a reliable local shooter. Considering his age of 22 and having the physique of a 17 year old player, along with his limited ball-handling and ball sharing responsibilities which limits him in high-level basketball, starting his European career with a team in the Turkish league in the coming years could be beneficial for him. If he can at least become a Yigit Arslan for us, that would be good.

I am really interested in your opinion about Derin Saran. I couldnt watch any game of him but the highlights are showing a linear development. Like his touch around the rim as well as his shooting touch.
