Turkish Prospects

It really makes nonsense to give almost zero minutes to Tunca. He is the MVP of BGL. He showed in the final game that he is better than Sivas. Btw, I like Sivas. He is behind two 05 guys in rotation. For me, he should be the starting PG. This is fair and rational choice.

As a team, we put pressure all the time. We can put pressure some games such as USA, Spain or some parts of a game. But it is a bit funny, especially if you did it against Korea, Hungary etc. We convert a game to a chaos. Also it causes that players can not show their potential in a chaos game.

Lastly, I am not sure about Buyuktuncel. He has perfect body for a PF. I like his shooting form, I am not professional but his shooting form give me confidence. I believe he will be better shooter in the future. Defensively, he seems solid but also he seems a bit slow and also he is offensively limited. He does not have feel around rim. For example, Almanza has that and mostly he can finish around rim or he can make the right decision. Clearly, he is not a main guy and he might be too slow for NBA. But it is good to have him for our senior national team.

BTW, I do not like many prospects of European teams such as Risacher, Sarr, Miller etc. Almanza is a nice one. Spain has a lot of above average guards. Vide is good but I am not sure about NBA. I do not know about Serbians.

News about Berke Buyuktuncel and UCLA are increasingly popping up. I thought a big about it and I am going to support this move because of two reasons.

1. Berke will play many years in the starting five with Adem Bona. Spending one year together will help the NT. The two guys adjusting their game will bring our defense to the next level

2. Berke is too soft and too unselfish when he needs to selfish and aggressive for instance attacking the rim. Another point is his softness around the rim. I am pretty sure that hell have to change in the States and the Americans will beat this mindset into him.

slice me nice

I have a question for you. In the group games Kerem Konan looked like he solved his slow foot problem defending small forwards. He looked far more agile. What do you think? Are just the opponents too weak or can we really talk about an improvement here?

Toruko In order to make such an inference, we haven't played against strong enough opponents. As you mentioned, he managed to hold his ground against weaker opponents in the SF position and what's even more impressive is that he succeeded in utilizing his body effectively in both defense and offense. He displayed a strong defensive profile, but it will be important to see how he reacts against serious opponents starting with the Canada game.

While I don't consider Konan as a serious prospect, I believe that he needs to sharpen certain aspects of his game as a player who is in the position between the SF and PF. His current profile lacks specialization in any particular area. He can not be relied upon for shooting, his post-up game is not sufficiently diverse, his ball handling skills are weak for a SF, he is not a good passer and his overall game vision is lacking. He needs to make significant improvements to play at a high level. Spending a year in the TBL is necessary because last season was a stagnant season for him. With his current level, he wouldn't be able to be a part of the rotation at Besiktas.

I agree with everything about his offense except his shooting touch. The shot for being at least a solid catch and shoot threat is there even though he seems to have lost his touch atm. And it is undeniable that he is not very versatile in the low post but there is still room for improvement. He also contributes many transition points with his active hands and has enough ball control to attack close outs.

It is surely not enough to play long minutes as a SF though. I think hell end up as a PF eventually. He has the size for it so I am not that pessimistic about him but that he lost the last season is a fact.

Konan surprised me in a postive way after a quite inefficient season. Its pretty sure that he will be end up pf position in his pro career. I do not take into consider him as sf for a while. He has quite good tools to be solid pf but never played under a decent coach to reveal his strong aspects. Before breakdown his game we have to assume that he will keep on his way as pf and its going to come out more precise result in regards his potential.

He seemed phsycal wise extremelly strong real stud and he got grow tall compared to last year as well as never shyaway from contact. He has very goods insticts to help defence and block the shots with unexpected moments and contribute the team defence. Make defence tougher. We saw some spectacular dunks and fancy blocks.
I am pretty confident that he will be ended up as very realiable shooter. He has decent release. As for the handling the ball I do not see any problem since he will be pf and do not seem clumsy with ball. We should know that If he can boost his confidence and take credits from the coach we might see quite different story the coach is insufficient in order to build that confidence. Its pretty sad that he can not gets convincing minutes since he is back up of Berke. I hope he will be starter at U-20 tourney.

I also agree the previous posts the player
selections and the distributing the minutes are extemelly annoying. I do not care to watch Karahan, Tan etc. These kids will not be candidate for senior national team. We have to see more Tunca, Konan on the court.

I saw Buyuktuncel first time on youtube at U12 in Nilufer or Bursa BSB or in a other small Bursa team, he looked like a huge baby, was the biggest kid on court but had ballhandling with this big body and young age, had a baby face therefore i noticed him. Sadly after that year he went to Tofas and not to Banvit or Efes.
He is on a mission here. What is that for a defense? Just crazy. I cant explain how he is able to defend all these positions, especially on perimeter impressives me. You think he is too slow, his body is not well suited for this but he is doing that 40 minutes without a break. But he is not a star prospect, we can say he could turn into an elite roleplayer, this would be the best for turkish bb. He lacks the cleverness or overall offensive talent when it comes to his own score, this was always his problem. You can't play this defense in a whole season, this is not healthy, but for NT 2 weeks are enough, that is important for us. I think he could lose some quickness in the next years, this happens to many players after gain weight or muscles, then he could have a tougher time at perimeter. In todays bb Kerem Gonlum would be even a much better player than he was. Not as playertype, but if Buyuktuncel can give turkish bb comparable impact that would be great for NT and his place would be safe for many years.

Konan was 2022 the best player of BGL and after his 2-3 impressive showings at first division he looked like the biggest turkish draft candidate for the next 1-2 years. But this is youth bb, after his injury in the end of the 22 season and his limited minutes at U18 european championship + his adventure in Montenegro he lost his momentum. Before 16-17 months he played the ANGT for Tofas and looked easy as the more talented player as Buyuktuncel, this is youth bb, even months are important, momentum is very important etc. Buyuktuncel protected the rim until U16 but he hasnt done that for 2-3 years but started again with that, this is all youth bb. You dont know what will come. Konan came to Bandirma after summer 2019, in March 2020 he stopped playing because of corona for 1,5 years. Then he had his 2021/22 season, in his whole life the only season of bb. 2022/23 he lost completely. We are talking about a kid with only 1 season of serious bb in his whole life. In BGL he started to play even PG, a absolutely late bloomer, also the best thing. He was on his way to become a do it all SF/F, maybe not skills at elite level but he had many things at a very solid level like lowpost game, shooting, he even started to create his own shot and he knew whats going on on the court, very important. And his athleticism. Its all about confidence, if you dont play then nothing will work in a way you have planned, this is the key. Today he looks like a PF(maybe he even added another inch), no problem, he can do it. People are to focused on which player gets minutes and which player not, if Konan doesnt get minutes here i have no problem with that, because i know he has enough talent to be one of the best players in this team, this is just the individual decision of the coach, nothing more. I hope Alimpijevic will be a fan of him. Second division would be very good too.

Toruko, yes opponents were too weak but we can see a much more motivated Konan in defense as last summer, the reason is for sure his limited role, with this effort he wants get more minutes.

Yigitoglu was solid. Rebounding and using his body is much better as last summer but we must see it against better competition.

Even in the BGL final Tunca played no defense but here he is showing for his standarts very solid effort. Just quality player, a quality player can adept or react much better to the new level. He has not only offensive IQ, he has defensive IQ too. But he is a player who you must build up step by step at the senior level.

It was easier than expected. Canada is a bunch of iso players without BBIQ and the talent level is low. They defended like shit.

To us:

Great overall game by Berke Buyuktuncel. 13 points 12 rebounds 6 assists 2 steals 4 blocks 4/10 FG 2/4 3PT. Except a couple mistakes a perfect game with dedication for him. I am just not happy with his low post finishes. He creates his shots and cant make easy layups and is too soft around the rim. This must change. With this overall game and defense I dont really know though what else must happen to get on the draft boards. For me a first round lock.

Samet Yigitoglu was again active today with two impressive dunks and an effective game. Still dont like his defense but improvements are there.

Ozgur Cengiz: liked him very much in the first half. You can just see his experience coming from his BSL games. The game was over in the second half so I dont care much.

Tan Yildizoglu: when I criticize him that much I should also praise when he deserves it. He really did a great job managing the team. His dedication on the defensive end is praiseworthy and the shot looks also better but still needs plenty of work.

Things dont look like very good for Sivas though. He really lacks play making mind and ability. Not a good sign for the next level.

Berke seriously reminds me of Cedi. Better defense with slightly worse offense. I cant see him dropping out of first round. He might be the best all around player Turkey ever produced. Not gonna be the best player in any team but will be a complete player in NBA for any team and good 2nd or 3rd option for the national team.

Cedi is not even nearly as versatile as Berke is. He is more than one inch taller than Cedi with a much better shooting touch and passing skills. He is not close better he is far better.

Cedi was really fast. He had amazing fast break game. He can easily go to rim. I remember his EuroBasket 2015 and Efes performances. When he got a big guy on him, he was able to score. He was the most reliable hand in that tournament. For me, he was more productive than Sinan and Dixon. Also, he can defend 1 to 4. I hope Berke will be better than Cedi but Cedi would be a good role model for Berke.

No, he was not. The most important players were Sinan Guler and Ersan Ilyasova. He was just an important role player. The bench was a catastrophe and he had to step up anyway.

The best part of reaching the semi-finals is undoubtedly the opportunity to play two more quality games. For a player like Buyuktuncel who is obviously on the NBA radar, the remaining two games are extremely important opportunities. Playing a good game against Spain would definitely justify the hype surrounding him as playing one good game here is worth ten games in other arenas. I have always been confident that he is an NBA prospect. There is no reason for a defensive monster like him not to evolve into a significant role player in the NBA. While he may have limitations on offense, he clearly demonstrates that he is a level above everyone else on the court in terms of impact on the game. He has shown signals of being able to replicate his performance from the U-19 NT in the senior NT. Some players fail to translate their skills from youth categories to higher levels, often due to their skill set and physical attributes not being suitable for senior-level basketball. However, this cannot be said for Buyuktuncel because he already provides significant offensive efficiency with limited ball usage and elevates the team with his defense. Considering that he won't be expected to have a high usage rate at the senior level in offense so that his offensive limitation won't be that problem, he will be an elite role player for the NT, forming the backbone along with Sengun and Bona. He is definitely a much better player than he is perceived to be right now. He is a great opportunity for Turkish basketball.

On another note, although Yigitoglu may be overlooked, he has had a very productive tournament despite not receiving extensive playing time. He is the most efficient player on the team on a per-minute basis. In order to increase our chances in the remaining two games, it is important to make adjustments to his playing time and have him on the court for as long as possible.

Very disappointing game for us and Berke. They are very good, it is obvious. They have a rock defence and they are too big in every position. But also, we are too limited in offence and we need to play hard in defence in the beginning but we didn't. For Berke, we already know that he is limited offensively but I expect him to play smarter and defend their best player Almanza when Samet is out. He even gave rebound to Garuba in some easy positions. He is still valuable player but this game gonna hurt his draft stock. He has rebounding problem in Tofaş. A player like him should take more rebound than he did in BSL. In this tournament, he seems better but after this game, it feels like it is due to level of opponents.

On the other hand, Konan gives positives signals. I like him. I hope he gets his shooting touch again. Also Tunca was not bad. He is the best PG in this team but he needs time. From beginning, the coach must give him the starting PG responsibility.

Also, the coach of Spain did a smart move. Almanza brought ball to remove our pressure. The other teams spend hard time because of our pressure. At the end, Spain is better team and has better players and coach.

It was clear that this team is very limited offensively and they choked as expected. I hoped for a closer game though. I dont know if Berke was just off or too tired because we simply overused him. Indeed a bad game but he showed his value anyway. He will be the third option in the NT and for now he is needed with his great lateral quickness.

Melih Tunca is the most skilled guard that we have in the 2005 generation and he must play at least in the second division next season.

We had a game that we don't want to remember, where we were completely crushed. It is truly a special generation for Spain. They managed to dominate in every position. I, like everyone else, didn't expect such a quality difference to be honest. Throughout the season, I watched all of Buyuktuncel's games and I honestly can't remember him taking such a step back in any other games. It was one of his worst performances in a game that is extremely important for his career. There is not even a single action that can be considered positive. It was really a poor performance. Even though things didn't go well and we experienced a major downturn as a team, Buyuktuncel was one of the players who gave the worst signals in terms of body language. There is no explanation for dropping your arms in defense. In sports, there is both winning and losing, but players of such importance should never step back in terms of igniting their team, maintaining morale and motivation, even in difficult situations. In every sense, it was a bad reference game for Buyuktuncel, but never mind, one bad game doesn't take much from him though he disappointed quite. Even if you can't reflect what's on your mind on the field, appearing eager can overshadow some of the things you couldn't deliver on the court. He must keep this in his mind.

The team needs to recover and show serious effort against USA. A satisfying performance against USA can make us say that the tournament was productive for us. From Buyuktuncel's perspective, the American game can turn into an important opportunity in a moment where his mental resilience is being discussed.

Im so mad because turkish bb has so big problems to bring quality players to the senior level. Therefore im so much focused if 1 player has so much momentum. Its not about NBA, the reason is, if we see then they have no chance in the NBA, they will come back and play directly in the EL(please dont come with examples like Furkan & Omer). No turkish team would give Berke in the next years a role in EL. He will go to UCLA and will have a small role, almost no role in the offense, this is the reality. But if he had yesterday a good game, things would be totally different, at this stage he would be in the list of Jonathan Givony for 2024 and would have a total different standing at UCLA. With a good game today he will be a candidate for Givony for 2024, but a good game yesterday would give him a safe place for 2024 at this stage, this is the big difference.

Camoka wrote it, the other big reason why im so angry. Berke did everything to not defend Almanza. There is no excuse for that. Since 2 years coach has given him all the freedom therefore he is the leader of this team, nothing against his defense, his defense is really great but his offense benefited totally from this situation. He was on a mission here, therefore his good ft-shooting, good rebounding and even greater defense and then this as result in the most important game, this is not acceptable.

But in the end of the day, this is youth bb. Every day is a new day, in the next phases, our players will have new chances and the most important thing is that all our important players need to get playingtime. Our first division players were the leaders here but we must see it a bit different. Maybe you can dominate here but much more important is that you come more polished to the senior level and you can do it only if you can try something in the offense and exactly this is missing in turkish bb. Maybe we would not see a so much physical ready Berke here but with second division experience we would see a better/more versatile Berke in finishing and exactly this is the important thing if you are player in the building of his game because you must do this where you have the chance for it, and this is not first division for almost all turkish players. Samet is not only a dunker, but if you dont give him the opportunity to try something else, then we will see again an unpolished turkish player in the senior level. After yesterdays game we can say Samet was the most positive turkish player in this tournament. In all aspects better as last year, better finisher, better rebounder, more understanding, using his body better and even better defender. With 1-2 good years NBA would be total realistic for him, you cant teach this size, Omer Asik was 211 without shoes in 2008 at Adidas Eurocamp, Semih Erden 212. Both were huge but Samet is even bigger, most likely without shoes 213-4 and fast feets and much better hands as both, much better touch but the other 2 were much better defenders and much better rim protectors.

Samet and Berke are the biggest potential for future(including character), Especially 1st one, 216cm guy with good physics, hard worker on the court, Milutinov type of player
2nd tier are Karahan and Yildizoglu

Konan is future Bugrahan Tuncer, pure clown and haircut model
