Turkish Prospects

Berke started season really well but I do not like his performance after the injury. I expected him to explode one or two CL game like he did the first game but he couldn't. And now Tofaş get eliminated and there is no real place to show his ability. I do not believe he can dominate Turkish league like Alperen so normally mock draft reporters gonna lose interest on him. Also, Ennis injury and weird Milaknis transfer affected his minutes and role. With healthy Ennis, Tofaş is better and Berke has more chance for his game.

For me, it is really important to go NBA for him at earliest opportunity to be best version of himself. He can be physically better with NBA practices. He needs to be stronger and faster. I always believe that going to NBA for Cedi is best possibility. Being role player in NBA is better than being role player in Europe. I feel same for Berke.

I am glad to see all my efforts to convince some mock draft reporters that Buyuktuncel is a valuable international piece for 2023 NBA draft have paid off. Buyuktuncel takes place on nbadraft.net as a second rounder now.

His performance has changed down a bit recently, still not enough aggressive on offensive side of game. It is about time to show what he has in his arsenal completely to stay on mock draft lists. Take those damn shots even if you are going to miss. If he can show a bit more versatility on offense, he will be the Top-3 best all-around forward of this draft group. He is no way worse-off than the likes of Kris Murray or Cam Whitmore potential wise. Freaking defensive upside of him is unique. He can even leap forward through first round if he can average something like 10 PPG at the end of season. Kinda hard when you think of Tofas system, but I believe he will get better in terms of offense through the year.

He is not the selfish guy and always wants to play the right play. One other problem is that he cant finish through contact. His body looks ready but contact disturbs him. He creates many finishing opportunities for himself but cant finish the easiest layups and the guards dont see him in the right angles in transition. Either they dont trust him or they are too selfish.

The Turkish Basketball development center is under construction.

Have a look here...

Omer Yasir Kucuk might be the best Turkish Point Guard in Turkey. 23 Points, 11 rebounds 11 assists triple double against FBs second team in the second Turkish league. He is still very slow with his game and needs to bulk up but he will explode in 2 or 3 years. He is too good not to make a big leap.

Wow I had no idea there was such a construction is ongoing, thanks for the info. But is it gonna change anything? is it the problem that we can't produce enough talent we are supposed to do given that we have a considerably large human resource.

Interesting case of Derin Mark Saran (04) who was listed 5'7 and several month later asheville lists him 6'4 and he seems to be very successful in North Carolina. I have no clue about the ranking system but i suppose he is one of the best play makers there.

Cant say much about his level either since the competition is shit but he has loads of offers from colleges

https://www.hudl.com/profile/14764105/Derin-Saran

I just know AD who grew 20 cm in just one year. This guy grew from 1,75m to 1,94m. We finally have several play maker promising prospects

Derin Saran was in his last year 2020 in Turkiye with 16 already 180. https://www.fiba.basketball/europe/challengers/u18/2021/player/Derin-Mark-Saran
his profile from 2021. But Fiba got in summer 2020 all measurements from the federations(though no tournaments in 2020). Not updated in 2021 but in 2022. In 2016 i saw Derin Saran first time on NTV in U12 Junior league all star game. He was unbelievable small but crazy talented, kid was a pure talent. His too small body was at U14 a problem although he was most likely the most talented turkish player of 04 generation he was not one of the best players in U14. In U16 with a solid body he was again below expectations, then usa. Last summer he was in U18 NT but not in final 12, i think even not in under 16 players or so. But its impossible that a Ege Tan Yildizoglu could be better as Derin Saran, no way. I wouldnt be surprised if Derin Saran is after Derin Can Ustun the best turkish PG prospect. We just must wait and see his level. He is from one of the richest turkish families. Tibet Goreners family is even richer, in a family like that you cant use turkish education.

https://www.fiba.basketball/europe/u16/2022/player/Kaan-Onat

Here is Kaan Onats profile. Its possible that Fiba will not update his profile in summer.

F.... are you kidding me Kaan Onat? what a talent.....born too play bb.....

Not a good game of Derin Can Ustun. Team is just too stupid. Only the Aktas bros have IQ. If Bahcesehir will not give Derin Can more part then Bahcesehir will not win enough games. His mpg is much but most of the games he is not involved in team.

Gazi Onat(71) could be Kaan Onats father, former G/scorer in first division Ankara. Not a high level player but i cant remember
how good or bad he was.

I wrote several times about Mustafa Ozan Celik(08, Ege Asist). Here you can see him with no 11. Team was a U14(+ U15 player Osman Nurveren) against U15 Balkan NTs. Players like Omer Ege Ziyaettin(PG, Fener), Alp Kerem Yuceturk(f), Efe Doran Turhanoglu(F, Efes) were not in team. But players like Atilla Gulecyildiz(F), Soykan Mustafa Bagadir(PF) were part of team. And Mustafa Ozan Celik was easy the most interesting prospect of the team, therefore coach let him play PG in the last games of the tournament. He is the youngest player of the tournament, baby face, very raw, his ability in 1v1 and raw overall talent makes him so interesting. If you watch the games you can also see other players with solid 1v1 like Onat Koroglu(12), Deniz Okumaci(10) but those players are only now good at this and you can see the difference of the overall raw talent level. But in this season he is much bigger, maybe not anymore a perimeter player. His team and TBF must pay special attention to him, he could be one of the best turkish prospects.

Today was a matchup between Melih Tunca & Ege Tan Yildizoglu. The result was 29/10 vs 10/9. In favor for the 22 months younger Melih Tunca. Sadly no video on youtube.

The great results of the bum team Gaziantep in BGL and 3rd division are zero important because there is no talent in team. Only talent matters.

Our U-14 NT is going to play against Bulgaria, Macedonia, Romania and Kosovo NTs as part of the leading side of FIBA Youth Development Project next week. Very low profile games, not gonna give any clue about the actual potential of our players, yet it is still a good chance to observe specifically Omer Kutluay and Darius Carutasu. The latter is the brother of high potential Romanian volleyball player Alexia Carutasu and just obtained Turkish citizenship ditto his sister. I watched him couple of times, and hard to say I am impressed, but expectations are high on him. Will see.

Melih Tunca had another good game. 22/7/12/4stl

Good game from Derin Can Ustun. Our prospects are too nice kids, too soft. I can write positive things about Melih Tunca, Ege Akcay & co but those players not going to the end, they are too soft and this is at the next levels one of the big problems of our players. Derin Can Ustun & Kaan Onat are different. Therefore Alperen Sengun is our leader. Yirticilik eksik, cok cabuk vazgeciyorlar, siniyorlar, gozleri yeterince kara degil vs vs vs.....

Very low profile games

Not against U14, most likely against U15.

Disappointing games of Buyuktuncel. He is still defending well but he is not that hungry and toxic anymore. The situation in Tofas drags him down a bit I suppose. I want him more aggressive on the defensive end. Offense is still very raw and he is not a leader type player more of a good team player but still he must be utilized in the offense more than now. He has a nice overall skill set but he is very reluctant in terms of using some balls too.

Melih Tunca(05, PG, Efes) had 3 games in 1 week. 23/6/6 against good competition(Ege Ozcelik & Sait Yosmaoglu, both 03) in third division, then 23/7/10 in youth league and today in third division 25/5/12.

Good showing from Derin Can Ustun.

Here we can see with 10 Omer Kutluay(SG) and with 13 Omer Yusuf Sık(G). Omer Kutluay had 39 points and Omer Yusuf 34 points. Really impressive stuff, no intensity in first half but Omer Kutluays performance is not a joke and its not important its just U14. Kid will be a star at U-level, this is so clear. I wrote very positive about him but against higher competition he even increased his performance in the last 3 games. Im just waiting for some more inches. He will play with the U16 next season(not with U15). Onuralp Bitim was as U13 the MVP of the U14 turkish championship, very untypical for a U13 too dominate U14 players but Onuralp was always very strong, thin but strong. In his last U14 season he led his team 9Eylul Izmir again to the final against Efes but lost this one. Furkan Korkmaz was not a big force at U14, he had his breakout as a U15 player in the U16 league and after that season he went to Efes.

Meric Kuntker(03, PG) is not untalented but he overrates his talent and and makes too much unnecessary things in ballhandling, passing and even at shooting. Too much unnecessary show in his game. Derin Can Ustun could do this too and at a higher level but kid knows which is the right way. Even in this video you can see unnecessary things.

A much higher level PG-talent is the Fener player Omer Ege Ziyaettin(08). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRyuNblt098 i dont like highlights but we can see here his talent. He is very similar to Kaan Onat(07). A real natural born talent. We can really be very happy that we have finally Derin Can Ustun(07), Kaan Onat(07), Omer Kutluay(09) and i hope Omer Ege Ziyaettin is a special talent for turkish bb like the other 3 too.

Watched Osman Nurveren against Tofas in yesterday's U-16 game, he dominated the game, low post scoring is bread and butter for the kid. He already has difference-making footwork and this is very promising for the next levels. When he will get stronger a bit more, he will be able to run the show in BGL too. Probably next season.

I can't wait to see him playing against European peers this summer. This will show us if he can be a player that we can utilize at the highest level. Nevertheless, I am so high on him. He will nail it.

In U16 Efes won 76-74 against Bahcesehir. Kaan Onat(SG) had 44p and Derin Can Ustun(PG) 36p. Sadly no video of the match.
https://www.instagram.com/p/CoF3329j0qd/?next=/basketffan/&hl=de
We need exactly these type of perimeter prospects, not decent ones. Last 40+ game in a competitive match from a turkish prospect was in 2012 Burakcan Yildizli with 40/15 against Fener in U18 championship. No 40p game from Enes Kanter, Okben Ulubay, Egemen Guven,Furkan Korkmaz, Omer Yurtseven, Onuralp Bitim and others. If 40 or 60, this is not important, important is that Kaan Onat is really very talented and he has the potential overcome his weaknesses(slow feets) in defense with his IQ and instings and in offense he can beat his opponents in 1v1 with this slow feets but in summer we will see if he can do this against european competition.

Although it is a very low shot volume to draw a conclusion, Mutaf is shooting with 14/22 in 3 PTS in Eurocup is good for him. Sorry for him that he couldn't crack the rotation in his team this season. I expected him to be loaned to a lower profile Spanish club, but coach Lakovic praises his patience and work ethics a lot and signals a bigger room in rotation through next season and sees his first season in ACB as an opportunity gain experience and overcome obvious deficiencies especially on defensive end.

To be honest, I am not a big fan of him. His offensive versatility is limited to be a serious factor in NT, but still he can make a solid career in Eurocup/BCL or maybe even in Euroleague (Not likely from my point of view) level. If the things won't go right for him in Spain, he can find contracts from Euroleague teams in Turkey as he has huge interest in Turkish transfer market.

He should be called up to NT in next window and see serious minutes no matter what.

Maybe its time for a Adem Bona conclusion.

The good: defensive upside is limitless. He can switch on anyone and can really defend 5 positions especially in Europe. His positioning is developing but he sometimes takes his man on weird angles and positions but this is more than improvable. Defensively, a force without a doubt.

The bad: It is also improving but I am still not very happy about grabbing and touching the ball. He still unnecessarily loses balls. Surely limited offensively but as long as he makes his 6-10 points everything is all right. I am really very high on Sengun - Bona lineups.
