Turkish Prospects

Osman Nurveren ('07) of Bursa is definitely one of the most promising players in BGL. More I watch him, more I like him. He got very limited playing time so far and didn't have meaningful stats yet, but I am quite content with what I have seen so far in him both in BGL and TB2L in limited time. The awareness of using of strength and size advantage is something you rarely see in a 15 years old player. As a 7 footer towering-center project, he may be a better fit than Yigitoglu. The ongoing season is his experience season and I expect him to make huge effect in league next season.

For me Top-3 prospects in the league along with Derin Can Ustun and Ege Akcay. The kid will turn into monster with right development approach. Credits to coach Gurgen who is the master of raising big man. Bringing him to Bursa was the first move of coach Gurgen as soon as he signed with Bursaspor.

Yeah we can call Osman Nurveren as better prospect as Efe Demirel too. If Osman had not moved to Bursa he would play now in Istanbul. He was well known because he showed his talent in the U15 NT in those trash Fiba balkan tournaments. He has very good touch under rim and was even with 14 a fearless dunker, very rare under pussy turkish bigs. Osman has 3p shot too. The other bigs of the 07 generation Beren Demir Ozdemir(Efes) and Yavuz Selim Kara(Bahcesehir) are interesting too. Yavuz Selim Kara has a real men beard, with 15, this is very very bad but because of his great physical tools he is still interesting. Our bum U16 coach will stop Derin Can Ustun and Kaan Onat but team is too good therefore success is not a big deal for this team. This generation will play in the U17 WC too.

Ilyasoglu is one of the textbook case of ineffective guards. He used to create an illusion of good player realm through flashy highlight passes over the years. That's all he has, some Teodosic-esque assists. In reality, he can't carry an offense and a defense successively, doesn't have good handling, he hides somewhere under defensive pressure, doesn't know how to find hot players in right time, he doesn't finish a single possession when contact is created by opponent while driving and etc. I don't even mention him being deadness on floor. This is unfortunately quite common between Turkish PGs. They have to learn to be more relentless. I never see his full energy is transformed into efforts for the success of his team. Very bad sign.

We don't have many PG prospects but the ones we have between 97-02 generation range seems to flop. I expect Akay to sign with a Turkish club this month. And, his physical condition is a big question mark, yet he is the only one from this generation range that can top the NT.

In the last weeks i had the chance to watch some games of the 2008-2009 generation.

08 generation

Omer Ege Ziyaettin(PG/SG, Fener) is the PG copy of Kaan Onat. A special prospect and the best Fener product since Omer Faruk Yurtseven. He made a good jump from moving from U14 to U16, typical for this caliber of talent. He could also end up as SG/PG.

Alp Kerem Yuceturk(Tofas) moved from Dacka to Tofas. I had not the chance to watch any games this season from him. Negative, he hasnt grown, this is very negative. You will almost always see physical development by such young promising prospects.

Misha Mikail Atakan(Bahcesehir) is most likely a mature bum. If the moves are too clear at U14 then this shows maturity and he was short and strong and now we see a blond kid under 190. If a kid with 13-14 not growing since long time then its big problem......but the bigger problem and key were the robotic, clear moves at U14...

I had no chance follow other prospects more then 1-2 times.

09 generation

Here you can watch the games of Omer Kutluay(SG, Efes). He is a great prospect. He will be one of the best turkish prospects. He could end up as a Furkan Korkmaz calibar prospect, a mix of Ibrahim Kutluay and Furkan Korkmaz. Great for turkish bb. He has the unbelievable body control in the air like his father when he shoots. Very good finisher from middle & close like his father. Ibo had underrated physical tools, his son is solid in this area too. He has very good body structure. He is just over 180 but i think he will add soon many inches because of body and his baby face. His father is 197 without shoes. A 6?6, 6?7 Omer Kutluay will be great. He will be a scorer like Furkan Korkmaz & Onuralp Bitim at U-level. Maybe you can find more talented player but you cant find his willingness and love for this game, kid has endless motor. Scores from everywhere, if he can improve his 1v1, he will be a monster. A star is born.....

Omer Yusuf Sik(G, Fener). At this stage he is even better as Omer Kutluay but you can see that he is most likely a bit mature. It will be interesting to follow his level next season at U16. If player is mature then the jump from U14 to U16 is not very impressive.

This generation will play in 3 years at the U17 WC.

One of the biggest problems in turkish youth teams are the roles. Everyone knows in Dackas youth team there is just 1 really interesting player. Ege Akcay. But in the last few games his role is smaller, for 1-2 months he played even a bit PG, create PnR for bigs etc. You must give your best player role, not to bums. We can see same problem in every turkish team.

Ege Akcay yesterday in action

Very low level in 3rd league but great game of Melih Tunca(PG) and Berkay Donmez(SF). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XSoyd3nvy5A Melih with 9 and Berkay with 6. Look at Melih, look at his creating for others, IQ and potential. Softness is key and a bit improving ballhandling then sky is the limit for Melih Tunca.

for 09 generation, I thought there was a guy from Izmir who was huge (above 2.05 and already dunking I guess), what about him?

His name is Emir Karabulut and he is in the youth system of Barcelona right now. According to the stats he is listed as 209cm.

Here is a video with him.

Last game of Efes in youth league. Melih Tunca 9, Kaan Onat 80. Kaan Onats first game in this league.

You can watch here some games of Emir Karabulut. In the end of the season he will be much better, in Izmir he played for a village club. Of
course he is very interesting for turkish bb.

Im hyping some players but reality is different. Only 1-2-3 players for each generation are candidates for NT. We will not see most of them
in higher levels. Nevertheless Derin Can Ustun, Kaan Onat, Omer Kutluay are way above average for turkish standarts, no way they are not
special(ok Omer Kutluay is too young), those must be the target players for TBF. Im writing about Melih Tunca because he is really talented,
most likely the most talented PG after Derin Can Ustun in turkish bb but nobody knows him. We need to learn which players we must follow, its Melih Tunca, not Ege Tan Yildizoglu.

Samet Yigitoglu surprisingly returned to Besiktas. He is the second former BJK guy who returned after Kerem Kuthan Konan.

David Mutaf with 19 points (5/9) from three and three assists in the Eurocup. The guy is a sharp shooter who can create for himself and he will be useful if he can solve his problem of staying in front of his guy in the perimeter.

Interesting player. Probably best Turkish SG prospect offensively. Much higher upside that Bitim's without question. A bit wild and tends to trigger too often, a bit of chuker's alert, but with good coaches that is fixible. If he is coachable and tends to work hard, at the offensive end he has everything to be solid EL scorer. Be he seems a bit wild and lacks D. I like him since ANGT Kaunas 2020. Can shoot of the dribble, flexible driver, solid decision maker.

You think very one sided. Bitim maybe doesnt look very smooth and his movements look really a bit unorthodox but he has a rounded game with a very high athleticism and motor. Such a player is always very valuable. Mutaf on the other hand, relies too much on his shot and he has very slow legs which is a big big problem for him. It makes him to a bad defender who is not able to stand in front of any his opponents let alone the difference in athleticism. A two way guard is always better than a soft low motor scorer. Nevertheless important is a good mix of offensive and defensive players and a certain depth without a doubt.

Depends. I think Bitim will have certain issues at the highest level, like being limited playing with the ball. Good hustle player, shooter. Good piece off the bench, but not more the way I see it. But Mutaf can develop into legitimate player with the ball, good decision maker. And that's the superior kind of player. Teodosic at 35 is still good player in EL, not being able to play D, and not having athleticism or much quickness. Fundamentals and IQ are more valuable that motor/athleticism in my book.

If he can become the new De Colo I would agree but this is highly questionable but I have rather a Beaubois than a De Colo.

Or Macijauskas, or Jasikevicius, or Spanoulis and so on...

You gotta be joking on this :D Beaubois is complete no-body. Completely irrelevant random role player compared to De Colo. Specially knowing what De Colo meant for the NT. EL MVP, 3x All-ELFirst Team. And because of this. Complete legend.

Beaubois was a legit NBA player but he was unlucky that he got injured and he would be still in the NBA if he hadnt got injured. De Colo is a NBA failure. Beaubois hasnt been called to the NT for a long time because he refused once to play.

Role player. Whatever the damn league. Many EL greats failed in NBA - Jasikevicius, Spanoulis, Macijauskas, Teodosic and so on. Does that make Beaubois better player than them? Hell no. Role player. Period.

Like I said, injuries. Nothing against De Colo though, a virtuous with the ball but a one sided guy.

I am glad to see all my efforts to convince some mock draft reporters that Buyuktuncel is a valuable international piece for 2023 NBA draft have paid off. Buyuktuncel takes place on nbadraft.net as a second rounder now.

His performance has changed down a bit recently, still not enough aggressive on offensive side of game. It is about time to show what he has in his arsenal completely to stay on mock draft lists. Take those damn shots even if you are going to miss. If he can show a bit more versatility on offense, he will be the Top-3 best all-around forward of this draft group. He is no way worse-off than the likes of Kris Murray or Cam Whitmore potential wise. Freaking defensive upside of him is unique. He can even leap forward through first round if he can average something like 10 PPG at the end of season. Kinda hard when you think of Tofas system, but I believe he will get better in terms of offense through the year.
