No he is 97' born guy. Where did you obtain this info?

I believe it was the assistant coach of Efes who was once was invited through Skype on a Greek basketball show. He mentioned it in that show as it came up when they were discussing the future agenda of Efes. At least I am positive that another youngster of Efes was the same age as Osman. Either Korkmaz or Ulubay. Probably Korkmaz, because he played some games.

It is for Ulubay yes. He is 95' born guy but there is nothing wrong with the age of Korkmaz.

We've heard age falsification story about many players (including Sipahi), but that's the first time I hear anything about Korkmaz. The other player might be Emircan Kosut, born in 95, who also played in a few EL games.
I really doubt Korkmaz's age is falsified.

PS. Ulubay's age was corrected from 97 to 96 after a funny incident. i don;t remember details but I think his mother or father, after a divorce, wrote a letter to NT, complaining that they actually registered him 1 year after birth. So it was not a falsification, but late registry with wrong date. Okben was then expelled from u16(?) roster.

Age falsification is not the problem of Turkish players. We've heard these stories because young players who come from Balkan countries want to make a good impression among Turkish basketball and register their ages by performing falsification.

I am really into Turkish prospects and I can easily say there is no age falsification between ethnic Turkish players.

It was definitely not Kosut. It is the first time a hear about him. "Slice me nice" said it was Ulubay, so we have a clear candidate.

Maybe, but I doubt it's one-sided. The teams that brought/hired them obviously wanted to use the opportunity when these kids were being given citizenship and they just tweaked a few data, including birth dates ;). Sipahi (Spahi by his original name) is possibly one of them.

Nowadays maybe. I've also been hearing from reliable sources that practice has stopped for a while now. But it wasn't always the case. We've had many Turkish players with falsified ages in the past, but they're either retired or getting retired these days.

Korkmaz also has the same age as Osman btw.

It's nonsense I have been watching him since he 14 years old I have never heard about his age falsifying. I'm pretty sure you have no any tangible prove in spite of that accusing young guy.Shame! Anyway It's wrong topic to discuss this.

Since we are talking about age, today is my birthday :D That practice has stopped because the power of Balkan lobby on Turkish basketball has decreased. Nihat İziç. I just can blame him about all the age falsification. He is responsible of Turkish youth basketball program and he is behind of all these stories. I don't know how does he get benefit from this type of recruitment.

Well, if a player isn't made soon enough, you can see what happened to Markoishvili - he would never get the chance he did and become a player he became if people wouldn't believe he was a 86' born (is actualy 84' I was told). How anyone other benefits here, isn't completely clear to me, player and his manager obviously do, it could be it's some sort of a favour to some manager etc.

...and of course, happy birthday man :)

Thank you JPF :) You are right, when I watch youth tournaments, generally I concentrate on the physical power of players because that makes the difference in that level.

For example Sipahi has u18 MVP title and I think this will give benefit to him, his manager and family.

Happy birthday, then ;)

Now I just remembered we used to have happy b-day threads here at IBN... I guess we were too few then .

yeah, evaluating those players at the junior stage is always risky. Almost an impossible job if you're not a pro and you develop that 6th sense smelling how these players will end up at their physical peak. And even those are wrong lots of times.

Better potential than Korkmaz ? :D Korkmaz's athleticism alone makes him way better prospect than that kid

I like Korkmaz too but this guy's court vision makes his potential limitless. Players with high basketball IQ makes difference. I hope both will be good stuffs for NT.

We are talking about POTENTIAL you can teach how to pass, how to shoot but cant teach athleticism and length also Korkmaz is a very good shooter, his athleticism and lenght says he has alot more potential than that kid

He has a name and I am sure his name is not kid. Tolga Geçim. How many games of Geçim did you watch and talking about him?

Do you know what potential is means ? you said he has a higher potential than Korkmaz, he can be a good passer but he will never be as athletic as Korkmaz its more likely Korkmaz will learn to pass like him, also Korkmaz way better shooter than him, Korkmaz's length,Athleticism, defense, shooting makes him an unique complete player, he has potenial to be true 2 way player.

This is why freak athletes getting drafted way higher in the NBA draft based on POTENTIAL, yon can teach them how to play and its not like Korkmaz is a raw athlete hes already very good fundamentally
