Turkish Prospects

Ömer Yurt7 finding his touch back or lets say getting used to paint action in the NBA. 22 points and 16 rebounds showing everything he can around the rim. Midrange jumper, rolling to the rim and versatile finishing around the rim.

Omer Yurtseven again with a monster double double 16 rebounds and 14 points including 4 assists. Nurkic had really serious problems with him especially in terms of rebounding. He has to bulk up more without losing his speed then he is going to be a monster of a center.

Ömer Yurtseven with an almost triple double. He had 7 points, 16 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 steals. Hasnt solved his finishing problem through contact yet but he showed some court vision and thanks to his 7 foot height he sees everything on the court.

Tibet Görener had his first 20+ game with Michigan State including 9 rebounds and 1 asisst shooting with over 50% from the three. Turkey again on the verge of having a top big rotation with better forwards than it had 10 years ago. The only weak part is the play maker position.

These guys are available in the center position:

Ömer Faruk Yurtseven
Alperen Sengün
Adem Bona (will be adapted very soon)
Sertac Sanli

This center rotation delivers everything you need for any matchup you can have.

The right now weak power forward spot after having lost Ersan Ilyasova (too old) there are some guys who are really interesting guys who fill up the gap:

Sadik Emir Kabaca (6'10 size with an amazing frame, can defend shoot and one of the rising stars in the FIBA CL)
Tibet Gorener (deadly shooter who can create his own shot 6'9 with a solid frame and ok defense. Needs to bulk up. Needs 2 more years)
Berke Büyüktuncel (right now 6'10 i suppose, born late 2004, a very good spot up and pull up shooter and amazing weakside defender)
Yigit Hamza Mestoglu (6'7 undersized power forward with a good post up play and a polished and hard worker, had his first game for Murcia being born 2004)

Last but not least the guy with the biggest upside:
Demir Dogan (2006 born 6'9 right now with an amazing frame, control, speed and explosiveness)

This is the best talent tool we had in our basketball history.

Finally, our hope, our main PG for the next decade Mert Akay is back after exactly 1 year.

2004 born Efe Tahmaz (04) a 6'7 small forward playing for Partizans U19 team got a professional contract from the A team of Partizan and will be playing for ZOC next season.

Yigit Hamza Mestoglu (04) who made his first game for Murcia in ACB short time ago made 19 points (3/3 from three), 7 rebounds, 4 assists in the spanish third league. Its still too early but the 2004 generation could end up being the strongest generation of all time. Its sure it is one of the strongest.

The next one who found his first minutes in the ACB with Gran Canaria. Sarper David Mutaf (02) had his first game and contributed one assist. I always hoped him to become the next taller Sloukas but he probably end up being just a scorer but he is a deadly scorer. Can create his shots from all possible positions.

Adem Bona is making strides with his skill-level as a senior. Improved passer and really effective attacking the rim from the perimeter. Plays incredibly hard and is quick off his feet for blocks and rebounds. Nigerian/Turkish national should have an immediate impact at UCLA.

Bona vs Link was great in the first half, amazing verticality, amazing motor, amazing defender. This is the last piece of the perfect big rotation.

If we have luck there is a chance to get something like Spain of 2000

Adem Bona in the role of Serge Ibaka
Alperen Sengün in the role of Pau Gasol
Ömer Yurtseven in the role of Marc Gasol

Before everyone starts to shitstorm its just a wish, I dont compare the best big rotation of Europe of all time with them. :D

David Mutaf made his first game for Gran Canaria in Eurocup against Cedevita and contributed with 3 points and 2 rebounds in four minutes.

All our 2002 born top guys keep developing. So many talents makes it tough to keep tracking... :D

It was also the first chance to watch the Turkish 2006 born progidy Demir Dogan. Is not the most explosive guy and not a good passer right now.

You can´t compare a U15 player with U16 player. I´m sure Demir Dogan will be clearly more explosive this summer. Even Onuralp Bitim was by far more explosive as U16 player than as U15 player. Demir is not a late bloomer as an athlete like Kerem Konan or Sadik Kabaca but the jump from U15 to U16 is always huge, you can´t compare it from U17 to U18.

Never trust a prospect if he loses his hair, at Haktan Yavas(04, SF, Galatasaray) it started when he was 16, and at Emin Kara(06, C, Efes) even with 15. That shows maturity, it´s not important if you have less hair but if you losing your hair at that age then you are done as a prospect.

Kaan Onat(07, SG/PG, Efes) came from Ankara and is a very good prospect, he is clearly above avarage G-talent for turkish standarts. He is soft and slow but good 1v1 player, huge IQ at this level, very good shooter(shot creator). He should be one of the biggest G-prospects of Turkey in the next U-tournaments. Very, very talented player. Maybe we can compare him to David Mutaf but Kaan is 10 times more talented in every aspect.

But the biggest talent is of course Derin Can ÜSTÜN, i watched another huge game of him. This kid is special. Derin Can ÜSTÜN & Kaan Onat in the same U16 NT, that will be fun:cool:

Mert Akay with his first game after 1 year absence brought the win after a weak first half in the second half with his great decisions. This guy is a true floor general and he looked good, better than I expected. Finished the game with 6 points, 3 rebounds and 6 assists, 3 TO (in the first half) and 3 steals. I suppose getting in shape this season in the Serbian League is ok but then he must go elsewhere. Despite the injury Serbia wasnt a bad decision for him.

Demir Dogan had also his first game in the new year. His coach trusts him, he played in every important part of the game. His usage % is still a bit low 3/7 in this game. He can score in many ways, from post, shots and penetration. His game is really mature. A true point forward but they dont let him to create with the ball right now. Maybe 2-3 times a game.

His defense is not good. I mean his height and fast feet let him look good many times but the Macedonian League is weak. He plays contactless and makes many position mistakes. I wouldnt say he isnt eager to defend, he cant just read the games well.

Sarper David Mutaf had his best game in the Second Spanish League so far. 33 points and 4 assists with 7/16 from three (44%) and 6/10 from two (60%). He showed everyone that he is ready for ACB now.

Today I am like wanting to write about my excitements and expectations for the new season and the outstanding 2004 generation. Unlike the most of our seasons we have many many ballers outside of Turkey who will participate in Europes major leagues.

Sarper David Mutaf (2002) a superb shooter off the dribble and off screens. Averaging 20+ points in the Spanish second league for Murcias second team will participate in the main team next season. Being very talented scorer on the offensive end his defense needs work. Could have a good season which allows him to be in the NT. He has played recently for Gran Canaria in ACB and Eurocup.

Eray Büyükcangaz (2004), a 201cm combo guard with very good handling and very long wingspan. Loves making plays from drive and dish and creates restrictively out off the dribble. He is a very good catch and shoot and catch and drive guy though. He can easily defend 1-3 positions. Good passer as well. We will see to what extend he will play in the ABA league for SC Derby.
A problem could be his skinny frame. Needs to bulk up more.

Berke Büyüktuncel (late 2004), he is growing and growing. Should be around 6'10 6'11 and is playing with the main team of Tofas. Tbh its not his best time. He struggles finding minutes despite his amazing frame. He seems to have lost ball handling skills and plays more five. One of the fastest catch and shooter that I saw. Couldnt show many of his defensive skills. He can defend 2-5 everything. Could really end up being a 7 footer. Its time for him to work over the summer and start playing. He will get his chance with Tofas. He needs to polish his movements, too raw atm.

Yigit Hamza Mestoglu, (2004) undersized pf center with a very good post game and shooting and rebounding upside. A relentless fighter and a very good defender with a high motor. Has been playing for Murcias second team in the Spanish third league and found minutes in the main team as well. Cant say if he finds a roster spot but its probable.

Efe Tahmaz (2004) very polished 201cm SG/SF/PF very versatile player who combines athleticism with pure shooting and very polished game. Got a pro contract from Partizan. I dont give him much chances in his first year but a very valuable prospect.

Last but not least the most valuable prospect of the Turkish BB beside Demir Dogan. Ege Tan Mestoglu (2004) player from Galatasaray Istanbul. The federation and GS give him all support they can give him. He is leading Galatasarays youth team and the team in the third league.

In order to show his meaning here are the stats.

TB2L (Turkish third league) 33 minutes play time 15 points and 9 assists average
BGL (Turkish youth league) 31 minutes play time 21 points 6 rebounds, 6 assists 3 steals

Shooting needs work but is an elite shot creator and superb ball handler. We will see if GS is brave enough to give him a bench role this season.

This is the most talented generation of Turkey with no big btw but talent doesnt mean that they will reach their peak.

There's no way Sengun is higher than Garuba, LOL. Even if Sengun looks tremendous for 18yo, he looks like an early bloomer, traditional bruiser who will face obvious defensive flaws in the NBA, with somewhat limited ceiling as prospect (high floor though). Garbuna is most highly treated prospect in 2021 drafts, his defensive versatility, athleticism, fundamentals, intriguing offensive upside which is FAR from complete makes him clearly No.1. Some have him among top five picks. Second goes Prkacin, he's a big stud, but has some issues shooting frees, and at D end as well. Those 2 are best Euro prospects for 2021.

God knows who's then...could be Sengun (I see him as late first rounder), could be Alocen or Jokubaitis, Hukporti, french guys Begarin or Strazel (Jesus, how much prospect power France have? It's ridiculous). I think Tubelis will declare for 2022 drafts.

This comparison has not aged well so far man. Garuba is shuttling between G-league and Rockets while Alperen shows glimpses of what he is capable of.
By the way what happened to the guys imported by Tofas and Efes from Nigeria and Kyrgyzistan respectively?

Mert Akay played just 11 minutes against the weakest team of the Serbian League. 5 points and 4 assists. Good to see him playing again.

Mert Akay with his first 20+ minutes game and he finished it with 16 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 TO.
