Arslan will no longer participate NT.
News of the day.
did he really declare that? like he was expecting to be called in the future? :) He's another wasted talent in the long line of Turkish PG prospects..

As for Dixon, our chronic lack of PG was the main reason he was chosen above anybody else I suppose. Wrong idea anyway, it's weird to see a completely irrelevant person in a major role in your NT. (similar to the joke we see these days in European Athleticism Championship with Kenyans, Jamaicans competing for us. Ridiculous.)

We definitely rebuild our roster.
And if we need to naturalize a player (PG), that should be someone who can really make a difference.
Bobby Dixon is good but age and physical disadvantages causes some trouble.
For example why don't we try Malcolm Delaney? Just an example.

Hello everyone! I am glad to find a quality forum like Interbasket.

My very first post is going to be about few ifs.

1) Who will be new coach?

2) Will we naturalize a new player or going on with Dixon?

3) Will Okben take a good role in team?

4) Do we really aim a medal?

5) How would you establish roster under current situation?

6) Will we call up old washed up guys like Sinan and Omer Asik?

7) Who will be alternative of Ersan?

There are so much uncertainness in my opinion. We need to hurry up!

Hi Swish, welcome

1) I heard agreement done with Ufuk Sarica, he'll continue to train Besiktas as well.

Welcome...

1 - Anyone who will do a fair assesment...
2 - I don't expect a new player.
3 - I expect him to be in the roster, will take few minutes behind Cedi.
4 - Will not be a realistic target. Quarter Finals is great success imo.
5 - PG: Dixon - Kartal - Dogus
SG: Sinan - Furkan - Can Maxim - Melih
SF: Cedi - Okben - Tolga Gecim
PF: Ersan - Samet Geyik - Ege Arar
C: Semih - Furkan Aldemir - Emircan
6 - I would go for Semih, till we get Furkan and Can Maxim to a rhytm + Onuralp Bitim... Omer (he is just 30 years old) is not playing a minute. And we know status of Enes Kanter.
7 - At the moment there is not a good name to be honest. Metin Turen is not having minutes. Ege and Samet are having really few minutes. Few minutes is better than none.

What do you think about Berkay Candan as an alternative for forward position? He is playing good and can help us.

PG: Bobby Dixon - Engin Atsur - Dogus Balbay
SG: Sinan Guler - Furkan Korkmaz - Can Maxim Mutaf
SF: Cedi Osman - Okben Ulubay - Tolga Gecim
PF: Ersan Ilyasova - Samet Geyik - Ege Arar - Berkay Candan - Metin Turen
C: Semih Erden - Furkan Aldemir - Emircan Kosut

Looking at that roster we have good core for PG, SG, SF.
Last days there are rumors of having Jordan Theodore naturalized for national team.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jordan_Theodore
Either we have BD or JT in the team, I would select 5 guards and 3 SF, Ersan and 3 centers for final roster.
Final Roster I would be happy with:

Bobby Dixon or Jordan Theodore - Both good scoring options. Dixon is effective from outside, JT is good at penetrating to the rim. JT is slightly better defender Dixon has more experience. (25 mins)
Engin Atsur - well playing time with Alba Berlin. Decent PG behind naturalized PG. Easy 10 mins to give. (10 mins)
Sinan Guler - even though he is 34 getting better and better everyday. Improved his game to another level this year. He played most of his minutes at PG this year. So he can be an option for both guard positions. (22)
Furkan Korkmaz - hot prospect, has to show his skills this summer. (13 mins)
Can Maxim Mutaf - decent guard, good at defence and perimeter. We should give him at least 10 mins. (10 mins)
Cedi Osman - very good all around SF, should take minutes from PF to rest Ersan (30 mins)
Okben Ulubay - another talented player. At Yesil Giresun he improved a lot. (10 mins)
Tolga Gecim - point forward, needs to improve his shooting. Need to take minutes (5 mins)
Ersan Ilyasova - no need to say anything. (30 mins)
Emircan Kosut - as he is playing mostly in Center position due to his size (2.16 m) I believe he can cover both PF and C positions (7 mins)
Semih Erden - good center when he is concentrated (23 mins)
Furkan Aldemir - good at defense, he improved his outside shooting at 76'ers but didn't see him trying since he came back. We need his contribution (15 mins)

I have some parts where I disagree. First of all, you can`t simply left Omer Asik out of the picture. He is a bad fit in New Orleans and doesn`t play but last year was no different and just look at his game against France. He is a different guy in the National Team and he will be once again. Also at this point I wouldn`t give Aldemir any chance. If federation doesn`t vote against it I would get Yurtseven as the 3rd center since with Aşık ad Erden 3 center will not play he can just gain experience.

I agree with Emircan Koşut being there but as a 4. He played 4 in Efes before, he is not that slow and have range to play 4. Probably with Ersan and Cedi and possible twin towers line up he won`t see much play but when he do he can contribute.

As much as I like Doğuş, I`d like to have one of the younger point guards as the 3rd string. Sipahi can play, or since we will have 2 veteran pgs and Güler we can get any young guard from Giresun. I`d like to see Taşkıran in the national team.

SF position is clear with Cedi and Okben. Tolga is great but he is out of shape right now. I`d welcome him back if he can go back to his last year form. My team would be

Dixon(25)-Atsür (15)
Güler(30)-Korkmaz(10)-Taşkıran
Osman(30)-Ulubay (15)
Ilyasova(30)-Koşut(5)
Aşık(25)-Erden(15)-Yurtseven

Agree on many names, but we should consider Birkan Batuk too.
also Baygul maybe? Can anyone share some bits about him? he seems to be the most stable Turkish player in TBL behind Guler in terms of role and the playing time.
I watched him only a few times, once in Fiba Cup, and he was solid...

Do you guys also feel we lack players today even at Bekir Yarangume, Semsettin Bas, etc caliper?

We are desperately limited on paper, it is hard to paint a promising picture by the names on our hand. The guys literally don't take sufficient playing times to be competitive at the highest level of basketball. Except few of them, none of the guys have managed to take contributive roles in their teams which strongly indicates the dark future of Turkish NT as long as we stick to illogical basketball system that especially damping the youngsters down. Hopefully, some changes will be made as it is discussed in basketball society recently (Like D-League, development coach charge, obligatory youth setup investments and few other stuffs). Putting the future plans aside, we will force the impossible by aiming a medal in this tournament. I don't know why people have doubts for Sarıca who often play their teams eye-pleasing basketball and overachieve with limited teams. He is definitely the right choice for the NT, maybe the only negative point can be shown as his general attitude towards the young players that will form the core of our team. This tournament will also be a good test for the coach, he will have to deal with the new generation. I trust him, he knows to get the maximum from the players and integrating them into his system, no matter if the core on hand is young or not. Also keep in mind that Sarıca is the one who knows to get Dixon's drifts the most. He had simply created a different player from Dixon during his KSK era. I wish he would have had a better core to set sight on medal a little bit more realistically, but it's what we have...

PG: Bobby Dixon - Barış Ermiş - Doğuş Balbay
SG: Sinan Güler - Furkan Korkmaz
SF: Cedi Osman - Tolga Geçim
PF: Ersan Ilyasova - Metecan Birsen
C: Ömer Aşık - Deniz Kılıçlı - Emircan Koşut

I do like Koşut and Savaş almost didn't play whole year but he still score efficiently when he did. I think third center should be him no matter what for a team that have a hard time to score. He won't play 10+ minutes but he will play when necessary. I'd also have Arar instead of Birsen. But I feel like we will see players from Beşiktaş in the roster. Hope not since only player I'd consider Muratcan güler and with Sinan and Furkan he cant see playing time.

I agree on Ege Arar. Goksenin may also be called, no matter how irritating he is.

here is one possibility:

PG: Bobby Dixon - Barış Ermiş - Doğuş Balbay

SG: Sinan Güler - Furkan Korkmaz - Melih Mahmutoglu (Goksenin Koksal)
SF: Cedi Osman - Emir Preldzic - Tolga Geçim
PF: Ersan Ilyasova - Furkan Aldemir - Ege Arar
C: Ömer Aşık - Deniz Kılıçlı - Semih Erden (Kaya Peker (?) :))

man, this roster is terrible to be frank, but they can maybe fight.

There are few obscurities regarding the player selection. I am calling favoritism in NT into question. It is hard to understand why some of the players who at least deserved to be called up to extended roster were left out. Sense of justice in player selections failed one more time.

- Deniz Kılıçlı had the best season of his career. He could be a quite productive in a pot which is filled with familiar faces who are the underperformers of the year. Kılıçlı was a good contributor on offensive end, at least could see the preliminary roster. We don’t know how Aşık, Erden and Savaş will come back to basketball, since for the trio, the season was a big null. So you are basically keeping out the player who has been in good shape whole season just for making room for those who had been regarded as basketball players only on papers.

- Seriously, where is Muhammed Baygül? Arguably the most improved Turkish player of the year couldn't make extended roster, as if we are a top tier team in Europe. Such a joke. We don't know the value of our players. So, Yağmur and Uğurlu have been out of their minds with boredom on bench while Baygül was sweating off on court, being the one of the main parts of his team. Such a demotivational stuff from the side of the hardworking players to see those players are making NT roster when you don't.

- I would also like to see Berkay Candan over Hersek and Türen. Especially at the middle of the season, Candan broke through his limits, pressed upon the bounds of good player etiquette. He hasn't ensured his continuity throughout the season, failed in some crucial games against physical forwards, however, in any case, he would be a logical selection if the staff would have kept his overall performance in mind for this summer. Let’s not fool ourselves, Hersek is there just because he is playing in Fenerbahçe.

- Barış Ermiş had to be also here from Tofaş. Creativity will be the main problem of this team, so you don't have a luxury for not calling him up. We are talking about a system which will be run by Sipahi and Dixon. Years after years, coaches over coaches, everything has been changing in NT except the bias of NT staff against Ermiş. If his team was overachieved, it is all about the good chemistry between Ermiş and Micic. They were both credible masters of Tofaş.

I seriously do not understand why Baygul is not invited to the preliminary roster.. Ok he is not a super young talent or anything, but he was much more part of the main team than e.g. Mutaf or Veyseloglu.
In addition, why is Egemen Guven not called in, he could evolve in a really good center for the NT in a few years..

I was high on Sarica, but the above two missers do worry me.

Welcome back, Nakz. loong time, no see.

Sarica has never been a fan of prospects, neither at KSK nor at BJK. That's one main issue I have with him.

Egemen did not find any playing time this season, so I understand he's left out, but choosing Mehmet Yagmur and Berk Ugurlu is ridiculous. it's good that Ender Arslan quit NT, otherwise he'd be called up too.

Markovic is replaced by Trifunovic at KSK, who was working with many prospects at Giresun. a good opportunity for Egemen.
