So I've got a big issue with Oceania, who are getting two slots, and they are only sending two teams (Kiwis and Tall Blacks). Because of this they've set up two games, a home and away matchup between these two teams. The result not really that significant as both teams will make the trip to Turkey, so it's just about bragging rights.
What is the point of giving a section two bids when most of the time it can't field much more than the same two teams? Island countries like French Polynesia, Samoa, Guam are poor and don't have the funds to field a team. This is why combining Asia and Oceania into like the Asiania zone or whatever would be ideal because provided each section carries their number of spots into the World Championships, then the chance for a team in Western Asia like Lebanon increases, and we won't always just see either Australia or New Zealand every single time from that region.
The Kiwis or Tall Blacks of course will probably howl in outrage at this suggestion because it means one of their nations might be snuffed out by a country from the Asian continent. But the Oceanian section has simply gotten to the point of absurdity. If not merge then at least take away one of their bids and give it to Asia because as shown by this recent competition several teams were within a couple points of moving on, while the Oceanian section will always have the same two teams. Australia and New Zealand have been the only teams to be competition in their region since the 1999 Olympics when the Aussies didn't compete cause they hosted the Olympics and Guam managed to pull in a silver. It isn't fair to the rest of the world while they are guaranteed a spot in because they are the only teams competing while other countries who are worthier get snuffed out due to insufficient bids.
