I read an article which was posted in a philipino forum and the article quotes a man named Neala(i dont know who he is actually) saying that fiba is trying to make the world championship 30 teams and thus giving out 10 wild cards so you,de think atleast 1 team from asia would get a card ....but how accurate is this information because when i read it i, t sounded kind of ridiculous giving 10 wild cards from 30 teams(33%) im definitely with this policy though cuz it would ensure leb through after this expected game 2day afainst Jordan where the team was mentaly and physicly tired thnx to the game yest. and more thnx to the uzbekistani REF and some of it to fiba giving lebanon only 15 hrs of rest between games (jordan had 24) the games could,ve been right after each other :p this article was brought up when team rp was making a push for a 5th place in asia to maybe get invited ofcourse if this was to happen .....so would anyone please shed some light on this subject ? I am sure many pinoys might know about this . and if its not true from the 4 wild card invitees is it always 3 teams from europe and 1 from the americas .....

The offical word is 4 WC.
If they give out 10 WC, chances are teams like PHIL might get one as well...

well since u found it on a Phil forum, it is reasonable to say that it is just a wishful thinking by the PHIL fans...they love BB u know..

from what i read earlier, they are planning to give a wildcard to the 4th and 5th finishers from this ongoing fiba asia tournament. i believe they are only planning, but this is not yet sure;)

dude it came from noli eala, he is one of the big guys in SBP,i assure you that it is not our wishful thinking as you say:rolleyes:

In one of the other treads (Jordan vs Lebanon probably) a guy posted the guidelines for wildcard, and it says no more than 3 teams from one FIBA zone, and Asia's already fulfilled those slots so no wildcard

Who are the teams that can get a Wild Card ?????

Who are the teams that can get a Wild Card ?????

:DWild card teams for Turkey 2010

The FIBA Central Board will assign in autumn 2009 four wild cards to four countries that have not qualified until then according to the following criteria:

The criteria for the Wild Cards
1. In order to be invited the team must have participated in the 2009 FIBA Zone Qualifying Championship.
2. There can be a maximum of three teams from any one FIBA Zone.

Together with the above two criteria, FIBA shall take into consideration the following aspects:

Sporting Aspects
- Popularity of basketball in the country
- Quality and sporting results of the national team of the country
- Quality of work by the National Federation

Economic Aspects
- Involvement of local television and/or competitions in domestic and international basketball
- Importance of country to FIBA's marketing and television partners
- Importance of country to the Organizers of the World Championship

Note: The FIBA Central Board is the highest executive body of FIBA where 20 members and three ex-officio members meet twice yearly. The Board establishes the Internal Regulations and assigns the organization of all world championships.

Who are the teams that can get a Wild Card ?????

In Fiba Asia we have 2 good teams whom couldn't Qualify :

Lebanon (4th)
Korea (7th)

In Fiba Africa we have 3 good teams....

Cameroon (4th)
Nigeria (5th)
Senegal (7th)

In Fiba America :

Canada and venzuela will have a chance for a Wild Card.

Cuz these four teams have the upper hand to qualify :

Argentina
Brazil
Purtorico
Dominic Republic

Usually Europe have 3 of the 4 wild cards to WC but this time they may just have 2 cuz Turkey already qualified not like last tournaments when Japan ( 2006) and Usa ( 2002) where the hosts.......

As a conclusion, 2 of the following Teams will have a Wild card or at least one :

Lebanon*
Korea
Canada*
Venzuela*
Nigeria*
Senegal
Cameroon

Sooo Lebanon still have a chance to be in WC :D ( 13 DECEMBER 2009 MIGHT BE A GOOD DAY FOR US HOPE SO)

This is my Personal information if someone can help me with more information it will be great :D

IMO you can cut Korea from your list. No way that Asia will get two wildcards and Lebanon is the only one that worths it from your zone.
From Africa I see no chances for Senegal. I'd guess that Nigeria might get it, even Cameroon showed better results in last two African championships.

P.s. if I'd be lebanese I'd pray that there would be no major upsets in upcoming Americas championship ;)

Lebanon has a great chance getting one of those cards..and i wish they could get 1....at least for the sake of their history in the past 10 years they been 3 times in the finals and once 4 place..plus they played well in the last world cup..

thx man.Dont u think that rasheem should be changed for the worldcup
He is getting bigger + jordan needs a tall center because zaid is 32 and is not going to reach it to the WC

Well he is not that old he will be 29 next year not that bad i guess..anyway
Rashiem will be the last player to be naturalized...the old federetion is Gone now..and even mario palma wont be leading us there..they wanted also to remove him from coaching right before jones cup those idiots in jordan...to tell u the truth Murad barakat is a whore..and he is pissed he wants to be in charge of every thing..iam happy we made it and iam happy b/c our old players ayman/zeid khass/sam daghles fulfilled their dreams....after the WC
they will leave the game and its the best way to end their careers..to be honest we have always had the potential but the local coachs were always behind our failures...

Lebanon has a slight chance if results go as planned. I mean, they made the last 2 WC, and even did well in 2006. And they just missed out this yr. Right now, I can't say whether Lebanon should get a wildcard because we need to see the American and European tournament.

Korea just got unlucky this year. They got the rough end of the stick, drawing Lebanon in the quarters. Then, they didn't help their cause by losing to Chinese Taipei. And they only lost it in the last 30 seconds. Then they only beat the RP team in the last 3 seconds in what seemed to be a re-enactment of "Paking Shet". RP blew it again. But thats another topic. The point is, Korea just got by on some luck and some fortunate situations. If they finished 5th, FIBA might have been more forgiving and they could've been in consideration. But 7th place in FIBA Asia won't cut it for them.

I think that Lebanon deserved the qualification(Iran, jordan and china deserve it also). Now, the lebanese federation can use the wrong whistle of thhe referee in the semis. And we ll see if we ll get a chance(our chances are so small: not above 10-15%).

man why palma will not coach ur nt in the worldcup?,he's a good coach,i think if he was our coach, then our nt will be better and better
is it a final decision that zaid, sam and ayman will retire after the upcoming worldcup?it seems a big loss for ur nt cause having a new talents will require a lot of preparation
anyway i wish our brothers to play their best in turkey, make us proud

And I thought we were the only ones who have trouble with "domestic issues".

From Asia : Lebanon and korea ( I don't think they can make it since they didn't get any good result ending 7th in Asia)
As for Africa well: Cameroon and Nigeria are the closest and Senegal might get one but they have smaller chance.
If Australia lost to New Zealand they will of course get one but I am sure they won't.
My expectations are that at least 2 wild cards would end up for Europe. Anyway it all comes down to Fiba America's results if there were no surprises, maybe Fiba won't give anyone from that Zone a card and then Asia might get a chance.

Australia and New Zealand already qualified both....
The competetion will be between Nigeria and Lebanon... and from Canada and venezula if they didn't qualify .....

I said that in another thread then a guy came in and said that one of them will so I would check later for the right info unless if you have the official article right now. Anyway 10x, we have to wait for Europe and America because Europe might get 3 and if a good team of America went off they might get it as well anyway I hope we would.
