Starting next season, the Hornets are no more and will soon be known as the Pelicans.

Hornets officially become Pelicans

A new moniker in the second season of Anthony Davis. He is the cornerstone and from his rookie year, I have never seen a rookie that is so responsive and productive with Monty Williams' ball screen attack motions. Davis is very mobile and agile to set up those timely seals. Davis either rolls into the paint if the screen attracts three defenders and the weak post is either unmanned or has single coverage. Davis has shown much coordination in catching those lob or bounce passes to finish more efficiently. If the paint is dense with defenders, Davis strikes out of the seal and that is when Vasquez threads him up for a wide open shot attempt. Davis has range and that is surprising.

On defense, Davis can defend the ball screen employed by the defense. Davis has the reflex agility to go after those guards that slip past the screen. Davis nailed three or four of those during the season where a guard goes glass for the lay-in only for Davis to come up from behind and tap the glass. There were also defensive plays where Davis has shown timing to block -- not just challenge a v-cut shooter out of a screen. Davis has the wingspan and foot quickness to respond defensively.

As for Greivis Vasquez, he will play for Venezuela this summer and I hope he remains injury free. That said, Vasquez shines in the ball screen options when Davis and Ryan Anderson comprise the front-court.

According to the president of the Pelicans Dennis Lauscha, the organization is trying to finalize the bids of several companies who have expressed to get the naming rights of the New Orleans Arena.

Austin Rivers stated in an interview with NOLA.com that he wants to play point guard next season and according to him, that is more of his natural position and he excels the most.

In his rookie year, Rivers played shooting guard and it was evident that he struggled with that role as he found himself against bigger guards who can keep pace with his vaunted foot speed. Rivers will be working out this summer and it seems he wants to play point that badly come training camp. Still, Greivis Vasquez is a lock for the point guard spot. Maybe Rivers can back him up next season provided that the Pelicans doesn't draft a point guard or sign one in the offseason.

Rivers is more of a scoring point guard who excels in baseline drives to either score and distribute as he will not be your pass first point guard.

Eric Gordon underwent a successful arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle.

Point guard Greivis Vasquez has undergone surgery to remove excessive tissue growth on his ankles.

The New Orleans Hornets after meeting with Sacramento Kings guard Tyreke Evans have made an offer around $44 Million.

A three team trade was completed with Tyreke Evans the centerpiece of the sign and trade agreement.

New Orleans will sign Evans as they were impressed that the latter was willing to come off the bench behind Jrue Holiday and Eric Gordon.

I'm going to watch a lot of Pelicans games over at NBA League Pass to see how Tyreke Evans will fit in. Aside from that, Anthony Davis and his physique is molding to be like that of Dwight Howard, chiseled biceps and strong shoulders.

I've been a fan of Tyreke. Guy's got one of the sickest handles in the league. The Pelicans will be a very interesting team to watch. Without a legit center, Davis might have to man the middle next season, which I think he's very much capable of doing. Holiday and Gordon is a top-3 backcourt tandem in my opinion.

News is that the Pelicans will be re-signing Lance Thomas over the weekend.

Anthony Davis did put on more muscle. His trainer revealed that Davis has been on a training and diet program since July. Good for him.

Finally found a decent Tyreke Evans pic wearing Pelicans color. Head coach Monty Williams said that Tyreke will be utilized off the bench (in which Evans also said that he was cool with it) and depending on situations, will play positions 1-2-3.

Up and under pre-season game between New Orleans and Houston. Houston owned the 1st. New Orleans owned the 2nd. Houston owned the 3rd and finally, New Orleans made a comeback in the 4th for the win. Good game from Austin Rivers, was aggressive and got into the charity a lot. Rivers covered some firepower for Davis and Morrow with this one.

Some good news: Eric Gordon has rejoined the team for practice. This after getting a green signal from the physicians with two weeks to go before tip off.

Pelicans is a more suiting name than hornets because the state bird in Louisiana is the Pelican. Hornets was more suiting when the team played in North Carolina.

Eric Gordon looks sharp so far. Made a trey and some baskets. Tyreke makes his debut and quickly makes a short stab.
