How did that happen?

Because they sparingly played their main players and let the bench/role players do the clean up for the last 10-15 games of the Celtics in the eliminations when they already secured the top seed. Thus, they ended up more healthy because they were not as banged up as other teams. This is the reason why you have to win as many wins as possible.

They were also lucky.
1. The East is still weaker than the West. Look at how they won all their series even without Porzingis
2. Injuries to key players in their opponents helped. But this is still an indictment on East teams. You can get to the playoffs with one star player. While Western teams are very deep because they know the Western conference is a battle of attrition. The defending champs, Nuggets, probably lost because they missed a couple of role players from last year. This is how competitive it is in the West.

And that's good strategy. Rest your main players when you have the top seed in the bag.

And this Celtics is still a top team even if we put them in the west. Sure, Jaylen, Jayson and even Krisptaps are bona fide stars which is a common feature for the western teams. However, where did Suns (KD, Beal, Booker), Clips (Kawhi, PG, Harden and Westbrook) and the Lakers (AD and LeBron) go? Cancun.

Having a collection of stars is one thing. Playing with cohesion is another. Celtics have both.

So, Celtics are letting Luka cook (which will tire him), but guarding the others and making them uncomfortable.

2-0 lead going into Dallas.

Trading dame for jrue really looks bad for the bucks. Would be funny if boston wins (edit: especially if jrue is named finals mvp) while the bucks are stuck with a aging and broken Lillard

And we saw a subpar performance from Brown and Tatum, scoring-wise. Their low scoring production was compensated by their defense and playmaking. The C's are just letting their player with the hottest hand to get hot. Good call for them.

I thought Brown played decently this game. It was Tatum that was hoisting up bricks, but his defense, rebounding, and playmaking compensate.

That's Celtics basketball at its core. Team play and tough defense.

in a desperate move to get a scorer next to giannis when their line up is already good..

In the NBA finals, scouting and gameplanning of the stars is at a high level that supporting guys often become the difference come winning time. Jrue and White has been consistently making plays in crucial moments. They're in the mold of guys like Horry, Danny Green, etc.

All they need is just to stay healthy (plus a few minor pieces)

They needed scoring help and to load manage Giannis better. Scoring help can come from those minor pieces.

Ayun, their defense sucks.

They already have a good defensive coach in adrian griffin but the roster hated him

and they replaced him with doc rivers lol

Decent but not his usual and that's a good thing. Atleast, they are not forcing it and let Holiday work.

Porzingis maybe out for the rest of the series. This will have an impact for the Celts.

It only means that Tatum has to elevate his game. He has been subpar for the first two games.

he can still play though he can feel the pain

Listed as day to day

That would severely impact his effectiveness though even if he plays. He relies a lot on his quickness. No point in playing a hobbled unicorn who would be targeted by the other team.

Sidenote: maybe they shouldn't have shared the information regarding his injury? Mavs are employing some psych tactics including supposed injuries with their players. Keep the other team guessing
