This is not the first time the WC has been shown in the US, this might be the first time every game has been shown though. Overall I think US games have been shown since 1994 (and yet people are surprised Americans don't love the WC)
Still I find it funny people going, The NBA should change the number of games it's had for near 40 years and decrease profits, for a tournament most of their fans don't even know about.
It's never going to happen, even if I personally would love to see the season shortened to about 60 games. The owners will never accept a decrease of anything.
If FIBA really wants to make this the premier basketball event their either going to have to pull out of the Olympics, eliminate some regional tournaments, or focus solely on the Olympics.
Insisting on tournaments every year guarantees you wind up with years where the stars don't turn out in force, and given Americans almost unanimously support the Olympics more often than not the WC will get the short end of the stick.
