Turkey will be hosting the FIBA 2010 World Championship, which will take place on Aug. 28-Sept. 12.

It is still a long way off, but the Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) is not resting on its laurels, rather it is working overtime to make it an unforgettable tournament.

As is known, the matches will be held in İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir and Kayseri, and on Wednesday, the TBF announced the starting times for the matches.

Group A games will be held in İstanbul and Group B in Kayseri. The first matches in these two groups will start at 4:30 p.m., the second at 7 p.m. and the day’s final matches at 9:30 p.m.

Group C matches will be played in Ankara and Group D in İzmir. The matches will start at 4 p.m., the second at 7 p.m. and the last matches at 9 p.m.

There will be no matches in Groups A and B on Aug. 31, while Groups C and D will be idle on Aug. 30.

Host Turkey, drawn in Group C will play all its matches in Ankara, and these games will kick off at 9 p.m. The Turks will take on the Ivory Coast on Aug. 28, Russia on Aug. 29, Greece on Aug. 31, Puerto Rico on Sept. 1 and China on Sept. 2.

The Top 16 and quarterfinal matches will be held at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The first semifinal game will be played at 3 p.m., and the second at 7 p.m., while the championship final will take place at 9:30 p.m.

So 9:30, Noon, or 2:30 for the East coast wanting to watch the US. Not bad, not great, but certainly better than the times we had to deal with for the Olympics.

The people in Asia have it the worst. They have to wake up early in the morning to catch the games. I would say that 12:00pm and 2:30pm are great times to watch basketball.

Overnight start times are the best. I don't have anything better to do at 3 AM. Gotta work during the day though...
