Elton Brand won the 2005 - 2006 Sportsmanship award (he is really a nice guy) three international players were in the run for this award, the places went like this:

1. Elton Brand
2. Shaquille O'neal
3. Yao Ming
4. Jacques Vaughn
5. Luol Deng
6. Andrei Kirilenko

This award is named after Detroit Piston Joe Dumars, which was the first winner in 1996.

I am pretty surprised that Shaquille was so high on the list.

Above Yao Ming?

Stuart

I was surprised he was on the list, period.

Players voted for the award. Apparently many players are jealous of Yao Ming getting so much attention. (Yao second overrated players according to players, remember?) Yao would win it if not for being a media darling.

I remember Zheng Haixia, a 6-8 center from China, was voted WNBA's inaugural Sports(wo)manship award despite not being able to speak any English. This is definitely an area where we Asians have an advantage: being humble and not showboating.
