Spahija got canned today. I could see why he would want to coach Maccabi with all their talent but he was the wrong personality.

Sharp said that even Phil Jackson wouldn't do more... I tend to agree.
Blatt would be good coach for Maccabi of course (if he learned to manage game in last two years...).

Spahija didn't develop Halperin or Eliyahu. He had a double standard for Boytoy and Sharp who constantly played without production. Basketball is a trendy game and right now the trend is to develop the Israeli players rather than signing foreigners.

Maccabi announced that Oded Katash is the new manager of maccabi.
here some information from Wikipedia about Katash:

"Oded Katash or Kattash (born October 10, 1974) is a former Israeli basketball player and a persent day basketball coach of Hapoel Galil Elyon. He was most connected with Maccabi Tel Aviv, while he earned a Euroleague title in 1999-2000 with Panathinaikos.

He is 194 cm tall and played as a point guard.

When he was 9 years old he joined the junior department of Maccabi Tel Aviv. He played for Maccabi Darom, Maccabi Ramat Gan, and Hapoel Galil Elion, before returning in 1995 to Maccabi Tel Aviv to join the senior team, winning 4 championships and 2 cups with them.

In 1997 he played at the European championship with Israel scoring 22 point per game.

He subsequently agreed to play with the New York Knicks, but he never played in the NBA because of the lockout that came into place on July 1, 1998.

Eventually he signed a three year contract with Panathinaikos. In the 2000 Euroleague final he scored 17 points against his former team Maccabi Tel Aviv to win the title with Panathinaikos.

His career ended prematurely a few months later after a serious knee injury."

now they need to update the article...

I heard I think he's a great hire because Maccabi needs Caspi and Eliyahu to play their best.

You all should be thankfull to Spahija for this season. With such a roster Maccabi reached the Eueoleague quarterfinals, where lost deffinetly twice stronger team by 1:2.

Maccabi's this years roster is very poor. With such a roster nothing can do Obradovic, Messina or other great coach.

you right but I think that maccabi did a huge gamble and another year like the previous one will realy disappoint me.

I think that Spahija was need to be given another chance.

One thing is for certain Maccabi will be a better team than the New York Knicks.
