Kim Min-Goo's untimely mishap leaves a backup for Cho Sung-Min wide open. Yoo Jae-Hak could make Lee Dae-Sung as a shoo-in but he does lack that uncanny ability of Min-Goo to score on a variety of ways as Dae-Sung is more of a spot-up shooter. Rumors starting to swirl that Yoo Jae-Hak is planning to call up Moon Seong-Gon of Korea University back. At this point, Moon despite being in last year's FIBA Asia has not showcased his ability as there is still doubt about his performance and whether he can fill the void left by Min-Goo.

Moon Seong-Gon is a streaky shooter with a quick step and can finish using side-steps and contorting layup. But Min-Goo is much quicker and more athletic.

Training camp squad currently:

Kim Sun-Hyung (Seoul SK Knights)
Kim Tae-Sol (Anyang KGC)
Yang Dong-Geun (Ulsan Mobis Phoebus)
Lee Dae-Sung (Ulsan Mobis Phoebus)
Cho Sung-Min (Busan Sonicboom KT)
Kim Joo-Sung (Wonju Dongbu Promy)
Yoon Ho-Young (Wonju Dongbu Promy)
Moon Tae-Jong (LG Sakers)
Lee Seung-Hyun (Korea University)
Choi Joon-Young (Yonsei University)
Choi Jin-Soo (Goyang Orions)
Kim Jong-Kyu (LG Sakers)
Lee Jong-Hyun (Korea University)
Oh Se-Keun (Anyang KGC)
Jang Jae-Seok (Goyang Orions)

With Kim Min-Goo decommissioned and Lee Dae-Sung on and off practice with persistent pain on his ankle, Yoo Jae-Hak's request of adding Park Chan-Hee was approved by the national selection committee.

Kim Sun-Hyung (Seoul SK Knights)
Kim Tae-Sol (Jeonju KCC Egis)
Yang Dong-Geun (Ulsan Mobis Phoebus)
Park Chan-Hee (Anyang KGC)
Lee Dae-Sung (Ulsan Mobis Phoebus)
Cho Sung-Min (Busan Sonicboom KT)
Kim Joo-Sung (Wonju Dongbu Promy)
Yoon Ho-Young (Wonju Dongbu Promy)
Moon Tae-Jong (LG Sakers)
Lee Seung-Hyun (Korea University)

Choi Jin-Soo (Goyang Orions)
Kim Jong-Kyu (LG Sakers)
Lee Jong-Hyun (Korea University)
Oh Se-Keun (Anyang KGC)
Jang Jae-Seok (Goyang Orions)

Lee Dae-Sung is still with the active team but if he is not making any recovery, he will be dropped by the end of this month according to reports. Lee should be rested and not forced. This on and off is a sign that Lee is not recovering but is regressing to the point of aggravation. Yoo Jae-Hak has been stubborn and playing favoritism.

Anyang KGC's Yang Hee-Jong was called back to the national team training camp as Yoon Ho-Young is out due to a swollen right toe with infection. Yang has been a member of the national team since 2006 but last year, was not selected due to injuries.

Kim Sun-Hyung (Seoul SK Knights)
Yang Dong-Geun (Ulsan Mobis Phoebus)
Park Chan-Hee (Anyang KGC)
Cho Sung-Min (Busan Sonicboom KT)
Yang Hee-Jong (Anyang KGC)
Kim Joo-Sung (Wonju Dongbu Promy)
Moon Tae-Jong (LG Sakers)
Lee Seung-Hyun (Korea University)
Choi Joon-Young (Yonsei University)
Choi Jin-Soo (Goyang Orions)
Kim Jong-Kyu (LG Sakers)
Lee Jong-Hyun (Korea University)
Oh Se-Keun (Anyang KGC)
Jang Jae-Seok (Goyang Orions)

Kim Min-Goo is unlikely to rejoin after that accident. Lee Dae-Sung, Yoon Ho-Young and Kim Tae-Sol are out but not excluded due to injuries.

Kim Min-Goo went under the knife and doctors found damage on his pelvic bone near the ball and socket that connects the femur. This puts his basketball career at serious jeopardy and it is something that will be determined in the coming months by specialists.

In response of this incident, federation had prohibited alcohol consumption for any members of the Asian Games athletes and for the basketball team, there will be a curfew. For college players like Lee Seung-Hyun, Lee Jong-Hyun and Choi Joon-Young they were assigned a "big brother" guardian.

Seung-Hyun with Kim Joo-Sung
Jong-Hyun with Yang Dong-Geun
Choi Joon-Young with Oh Se-Keun

Current depth chart of the Korean squad:

PG - Kim Sun-Hyung, Yang Dong-Geun, Park Chan-Hee
SG - Cho Sung-Min
SF - Yang Hee-Jong, Moon Tae-Jong, Choi Joon-Young, Choi Jin-Soo

Friendly games?

BYU Hawaii - June 26, 28 and July 1 in Korea
Japan national team - June 27 and June 30 in Korea
New Zealand tall blacks - July 15 in Wellington, July 17 in Tauranga and July 19 in Auckland
New Zealand tall blacks - July 29 and 31 in Korea

According to rumors, Korea will also play friendlies against Mexico and Dominican Republic.

Today Yoo Jae-Hak was interviewed by the media. He said that they are fine tuning the defense more than the offense as the players have been playing for some years now and are familiar with the sets.

Yoo added that injuries are sometimes unavoidable and some teams are more hit than others. About the team, he said that on and off the court, the team is meshing and he needs to practice them with roles on the offense for continuity and to defend as a group; learning from the defensive breakdowns from last year's FIBA Asia.

Based on the scrimmage videos, defense is getting better as guards are fighting atop screens and there is much better communication when going for switches and covering an exploited gap. Offense is still shaky as the guards are lacking in creativity except for Kim Sun-Hyung. Yang Dong-Geun is still the best decision maker for them. Team is missing Kim Min-Goo's creativity.

Hi, is there any chance Min Goo will be back playing in Spain? I mean this guy is their absolute best scorer and Korea needs him.
I don't know how badly was he injured though, anyone has any idea?

Kim Min-Goo will travel to Japan next week to see a specialist but he is at the moment, ruled out for the World Cup and the Asian Games. Min-Goo has stitches on the side of his head and cannot walk without a support.

The rehabilitation takes about six months. ( ambulatory remedial exercises - as a human, not basketball player)

Also, Disciplinary action will be taken against him.

He can't play 2014~15 season. (of course, not spain).

Korea wins their first friendly against BYU-Hawaii 94-76 due to strong defense inside and outside shooting. Yang Dong-Geun, Cho Sung-Min and Moon Tae-Jong drained their threes. Those threes were drawn from mis-direction opportunities coming from a screen and a quick ice on the wing.

Korea took the scrimmage very seriously and the guards pressed a lot. The Korea that played tonight is looking like the FIBA Asia form already.

Tomorrow, Korea faces the Japanese national team.

Korea crushed Japan 88-56 today. 1st quarter and 3rd quarter were the most dominant stages by Korea as the starters were playing. Lee Jong-Hyun locked down the paint while Korea's guards like Park Chan-Hee pressured the Takumi Ishizaki and Makoto Hiejima.

The players that killed Japan was Cho Sung-Min and Moon Tae-Jong. Cho Sung-Min shot threes off screens and mis-directions while Moon also nailed threes after setting a number of feint screens.

Guards did the most damage for this game. Yang Dong-Geun, Park Chan-Hee and Kim Sun-Hyung were all aggressive in attacking the lane. For this match, Korea used a combination of flex and floating offense, a signature of Yoo Jae-Hak.

Kim Joo-Sung is still doubtful for the last remaining scrimmages with BYU-Hawaii and Japan as he is out with a bruised shin. Meanwhile, Yoo Jae-Hak admitted that health and depth of the guard rotation has him worried. Korea's current guard depth:

PG - Yang Dong-Geun, Kim Sun-Hyung, Park Chan-Hee
SG - Cho Sung-Min

Kim Min-Goo is out for the year, Kim Tae-Sol and Lee Dae-Sung are still recovering.

Yoo Jae-Hak once again stated that the may call up one or two guards for training camp. For the past three games, Yang Hee-Jong (SF) was being utilized as a shooting guard.

I have to admit, I'm not too familiar with South Korea's NT. From an outsider's perspective, the Koreans appear to be guard heavy but a little thin upfront in terms of skilled big men at the 4 and 5 position. I saw them play at last year's FIBA Asian Championship over the internet and what I saw impressed me. They were well schooled; great ball movement, played exceptionally well together, and their backcourt was as quick as cats.

Yes, you are correct. Guards have always been the catalyst for the Korean offense over the years even when they had Ha Seung-Jin. But this training camp, guards are stretched thin while the bigmen are all healthy except for the veteran Kim Joo-Sung. Due to the lack of healthy guards, the guard rotation is not deep. Let's hope no more injuries bite into the guard depth.
