Finally saw Yoo Jae-Hak's full offense on displah. Guard oriented with Yang, Kim TS and Kim SH pushing up tempo with those high pick and roll. True to his Mike D'Antoni influence.

China clearly lacks a point guard in that match..but korea has a good defensive strategy against china..

Liu Xiaoyu will get better in time. Giannakis trusts him. Guo Ailun is still not 100% and Chen Jianghua has a mental issue in regards with composure. Yang Dong Geun and Kim Tae Sol were more experienced compared to Liu.

They were outsmarted by the Korean guards. Also it was clear that both teams had a very bad day both atrocious in the 3pt line. Layups missed, easy baskets missed.

if you play that kind of defense you get tired.. rhytym wouldn't be present.. as you always try to outhustle your opponent..

I have so much respect with both teams that I expected a lot more from them. Past KOR and CHI teams did that kind of defense yet they were shooting the lights out and made basketball look easy.

If they play like that then they should give eurpoean teams run on their money.. Basketball as of today improves leaps and bounds..Gone are the big but smart plays of Seo Jang Hoon, Gong Xiao Bin and even Wang Zhizhi and here comes the peskiness and athleticism of a Yi Jian Lian, Zhou Peng, Kim Jong Kyu and Lee Seung Jun.. its just that the Korean guards outplayed the young guards of China big time in the end game..

Choi Joon-Young got more minutes than he had hoped for. Against Iran, he matched up Bahrami. After being benched, Yoo Jae-Hak told Choi to study Bahrami.

With the developing Kim Jong-kyu and Lee Jong-hyun, plus Ha and Oh who are missing, Korea will have a respectable frontcourt in the years to come. Backcourt has never been a problem for them. I see them consistently finishing in top-3 in Asia (or top-5 in Asia-Pacific) for the next 5 years, which they haven't been able to consistently do since 2002.

With the first two games under our belt, I am still very skeptical of Jae Hak's plan and minute distribution. Being one of the more undersized team in the pool, I don't see why Lee Seung Joon isn't getting more minutes. I feel as if Lee Seung Joon and Kim Sun Hyung are being under utilized when they should be flourishing under this fast paced, run and gun offense. Thoughts on this?

Well you could rewatch the 3rd quarter of the Iran-Korea game, when Lee SJ aka Eric Sandrin played, the Iranians started a huge run that decided the game. The guy is almost useless on offense and not as good as the 2 native guys born after 1990.

I think that Yoo Jae-Hak is managing the minutes of Lee Seung Jun and Kim Joo-Sung as this is just the first round and Korea is assured to go past this round. As for Kim Sun-Hyung, he is sharing minutes with Yang Dong-Geun, the trusted guard of Yoo. While Kim Tae-Sol is being used for defensive purposes. But despite sharing minutes, Sun-Hyung's efficiency and impact has contributed.

After this, I expect Wonju's Lee SJ and Kim JS to retire and make way for Kang Sang-Jae, Oh Se Keun and Lee Seung-Hyun.

Team had a light scrimmage this afternoon. Yoo Jae Hak stated that the team was not tired during the game against Malaysia, but was just sloppy. They worked on their offense and defensive sets.

CKR13, do you know the player Kim Dong-Wu (spelling?)? He played for the NT in 2007 and was one of their reliable outside shooters. Any idea why he was never included in their subsequent NT's?

Kim Dong-Woo is now a veteran player for SK Knights where he is a reserved. He played SF for the national team and mostly his career. Playing off-guard had him at a disadvantage as his foot speed and dribbling dictates. Since he is listed as primarily at SF, younger players then like Yang Hee-Jong, Kim Yong-Hwan were more ideal at SF. Same could be said for veterans like Lee Kyu-Sup and Kim Sung-Chul who shoots better than him and the two were selected for the 2010 Asian games.

Last consideration for Kim DW was in 2009 for Tianjin.

It seems Lee Sang-Beom is the defensive coordinator for the team. He often attends games by the other teams and taking down notes. He is also active in coaching the players as a group or individually on howto handle a certain situation.

I've noticed too that Korea is the only team (out of the top contenders) who has a local coach. Everyone else pretty much has or had a foreign coach.

It has been the trend for the Korean team for a couple of years. Who ever wins the KBL championship, that winning coach is a hands down coach for FIBA.

Hur Jae - 2011 KBL Champion with KCC Egis / Korea NT coach in WuHan
Lee Sang Beom - 2012 KBL Champion with Anyang KGC / Korea NT coach in Venezuela
Yoo Jae-Hak - 2013 KBL Champion with Ulsan Mobis / Korea NT coach in Manila

The federation is not open to having a foreign coach, but would welcome a consultant for the transfer of knowledge and technique to a local coach.

Like Philippines Korea likes to have a TEAM of coaches to handle their strategies..I do not see Korea has the best talent in all of Asia but compensates iot when it comes to coaching they are one of the best..

Reminds me of Kim Sun-Hyung's dunk against the Dominican Republic last year. Easily the best finisher for Korea today.
