South Korea National Team 2013-2014

  • Thread starter Thread starter CKR132
  • Start date Start date
Lee Jong-Hyun will not join the U19 team as his recovery is as expected with his cheek and nose bone fracture. Depending again on recovery rate, could be dropped in the final lineup. Yoo Jae-Hak is hopeful that Lee JH would be fit enough to play in the Jones Cup.

The national team recently had a scrimmage with the universiade team. Two more scrimmages and they will compete in the William Jones Cup next month.

Based from the highlights against the Universiade team, Lee Seung-Jun was playing aggressive both on offense and on defense. He has that threading the needle chemistry with Kim Tae-Sol.

Pool down to 13 players.

Tentative South Korean National Team for the Jones Cup

Yang Dong-Geun
Kim Tae-Sol
Park Chan-Hee
Kim Sun-Hyung
Kim Min-Koo
Moon Tae-Young
Lee Seung-Jun
Cho Sung-Min
Yoon Ho-Young
Kim Joo-Sung
Choi Bo-Kyung
Kim Jong-Kyu
Lee Jong-Hyun

Cut were Lee Seung-Hyun (21) and Moon Seung-Gon (20). If Lee Jong-Hyun re-joins I expect Lee Seung-Jun to be cut.

Current depth chart:

C - Kim Jong-Kyu
PF - Lee Seung-Jun, Kim Joo-Sung, Choi Bo-Kyung
SF - Moon Tae-Young, Yoon Ho-Young
SG - Kim Min-Koo, Cho Sung-Min, Kim Sun-Hyung
PG - Yang Dong-Geun, Kim Tae-Sol, Park Chan-Hee

Inactive: Lee Jong-Hyun

After the Jones Cup, Yoo Jae-Hak will choose between Moon Tae-Young and Lee Seung-Jun. Much of it hinges in the health of Lee Jong-Hyun. The latter is recovering well.

Potential 12 man lineup for the 27th FIBA Asia Tournament:

C - Kim Jong-Kyu, Lee Jong-Hyun
PF - Kim Joo-Sung, Choi Bo-Kyung
SF - Moon Tae-Young, Yoon Ho-Young
SG - Kim Min-Koo, Cho Sung-Min, Kim Sun-Hyung
PG - Yang Dong-Geun, Kim Tae-Sol, Park Chan-Hee

Choi Bo-Kyung will fill in the gap left by the rebounding and workhorse Oh Se-Keun. If needed be, Yoon Ho-Young can play power forward. While Kim Joo-Sung is able to switch to PF or C. Kim Sun-Hyung is an interesting player. The most athletic guard in the KBL that often plays SG or PG in the KBL.

Guards are very fast in this edition.

There is a chance now that Lee Jong-Hyun would be able to join the team in Taiwan for the Jones Cup. Lee's healing rate is better than expected and he has been cleared for non-contact activities such as weight lifting and physical conditioning.

Moon Tae-Young and Yoon Ho-Young are alternating at SF. Cho Sung-Min is back to playing shooting guard now, but is expected to play SF too. As for Kim Sun-Hyung, he plays both PG and SG for this team; much like with Seoul.

We could probably see David Michaels soon with the National Team depending on legislation as per eligibility of being a naturalized citizen. I'm not expecting 2014 but maybe 2015. Still, he has to prove himself in the KBL first, much like Lee Seung-Jun, Lee Dong-Jun, Jeon Tae-Pong, Moon Tae-Young and Moon Tae-Jong.

After Cho Sung-Min, Kang Sang-Jae is the next in line for Korea's shooters. Had a shootout with Croatia's Dario Saric, who is NBA material. Although Korea lost to Croatia, the shootout was entertaining.

Had the U19 suited up Lee Jong-Hyun, they would have had a "true" interior player who can rebound and defend.

Kim Joo-Sung looks healthy in practice. He seems ready to go for the Jones Cup.

Yoo Jae-Hak commented about the upcoming Jones Cup about Kore's schedule and the lineup of competition. Yoo said that he plans to utilize the team's depth and the string of the opponents in succeeding days closely mimic the FIBA Asia tournament grind.

Yoo also stated that he will field various starting lineups but not starting Moon Tae-Young and Lee Seung-Jun together.

Kim Jong-Kyu and Kim Min-Koo star in this commercial from Adidas representing Team Crazyquick.

Also, the team in Taiwan.

Some highlights of the South Korea - Egypt match for the opening day of the 33rd William Jones Cup. Korea won 80-63.

Kim Tae-Sol, Park Chan-Hee and Kim Sun-Hyung were able to break into the baseline and feed Lee Seung-Jun the ball for those flushes. Kim Sun-Hyung aka the storm had all the floor space he needed to push the tempo.

Yoo Jae-Hak was interviewed by the press and was asked about the audition of Lee Seung-Jun and Moon Tae-Young for the final man lineup. Yoo stated that "Don't expect me to make a decision in this tournament."
in which he further elaborated that choosing between the two has its distinct advantage and disadvantages for the national team.

because they don't really play against each other...its a matter who the teams need come august..

Yoo Jae-Hak spoke with the press and stated that Korea's chances in reaching the top three in Manila next month is a 50-50 affair. He stated that Iran and China are the two teams to beat still while Yoo stated that Chinese Taipei has improved with Quincy Davis at the middle and the Philippines as a final four team due to their talent, homecourt and with Marcus Douthit.
