South Korea National Team 2013-2014

  • Thread starter Thread starter CKR132
  • Start date Start date
Oh Se-Keun and Choi Jin-Soo are currently not at training camp with the rest due to them receiving basic training with the armed forces. Both are expected to join in June 5.

Korea will not have a new naturalized player for the Asian Games after the Olympic Council of Asia had reminded the KBA about its new residency for naturalized Asian citizens participating in the said event. KBA tried to plead the case of Aaron Haynes, who has been in Korea for five years but OCA stated that playing in the league for five years does not equate residency.

In response, Yoo Jae-Hak stated that they plan on inviting back Moon Tae-Jong, Moon Tae-Young and Lee Seung-Jun to training camp.

With lingering injuries for the current 15 man squad, Yoo Jae-Hak is seeking the approval of the national selection committee to add the following players to training camp:

Park Chan-Hee (Anyang KGC)
Moon Seong-Gon (Korea University)
Ha Seung-Jin (Jeonju KCC Egis)
Lee Seung-Jun (Wonju Dongbu Promy)

The potential inclusion of Lee Seung-Jun comes at the wake of the team unnable to field its naturalized players in the Asian Games. Ha Seung-Jin will bring in more height and Yoo is interested on pitting him against youngsters like Lee Jong-Hyun, Kim Jong-Kyu and Jang Jae-Seok.

Moon Seong-Gon adds a combo wing as Cho Sung-Min is still on the mend. Park Chan-Hee is for defensive purposes and another PG as the likes of Kim Tae-Sol and Lee Dae-Sung are also dealing with injuries.

sorry to intrude, but what is this residency rule regarding naturalized citizens from OCA?

New provisions for the Asian Games on naturalized citizens. Chinese Taipei got hit as Quincy Davis was ineligible. Korea got hit as either Rod Benson and Aaron Haynes were ineligible. OCA told the KBA that a naturalized player must serve minimum of three year residency in their adoptive country.

got it. just saw the downloadable OCA rules and constitution.. it states that naturalized citizens or citizens born outside of their mother country should be a permanent resident of the country he or she represents for at least 3 years..

thanks!

Head coach Yoo Jae-Hak announced the inclusion of Moon Tae-Jong for training camp. Moon is 39 years old and should join by next week.

As for other call-ups, selection committee will still need to approve of it. Lee Seung-Jun is very eager to participate.

Notes from training camp:

1. Lee Seung-Hyun is impressive and he really wants to be part of the final 12. He is very competitive with taller players like Jang Jae-Seok and KU teammate Lee Jong-Hyun based on 5-5 and 3-3 scrimmages. Lee has shown an improved range to Yoo Jae-Hak and improved his stamina based on the sprinting and fast break sets.

2. Yoo Jae-Hak is focusing on defense based on the world cup and has asked Lee Jong-Hyun to be the anchor of the defense in referencing to his wingspan and improved timing. Yoo Jae-Hak also stated that Lee will be utilized a lot more on both ends of the floor.

3. Based on the full-court press and half-court trap drills on the videos, Kim Tae-Sol and Kim Min-Goo are the best tandem as both will be teammates with KCC next season. They are using this experience also to get a headstart. Both are steals leaders in the KBL.

4. Jang Jae-Seok is showing similar skillset to Kim Jong-Kyu and both have been playing against one another based on 5-5 and 3-3 scrimmages. Both can play C and PF.

5. Kim Joo-Sung confirmed that this is his last Asian Games as he started with the 1998 Bangkok Asiad. Kim said that next year might be his last to suit up for the national team, in reference to the 2015 FIBA Asia.

6. Lee Dae-Sung and Cho Sung-Min are given special drills on improving coordination and been practicing with flare and pindown catch-and-shoot situations.

Moon Tae-Jong began practicing with the team this week and mostly on the 3-3 and 5-5 scrimmages as he was always paired with Cho Sung-Min. Moon under Yoo Jae-Hak is being oriented as an active screener and a pin down man for those 1-5 ice sets / 2 corner flares that often folds back into a shooter opportunity in Yoo's misdirection takes.

Oh Se-Keun and Choi Jin-Soo from the army have joined the training camp yesterday. Unlike Moon Tae-Jong who had to pass a medical test, both were not required as their recent health records were passed by the armed forces. Yoo Jae-Hak said in an interview with Koball, that he expects Se-Keun to play C and PF while Choi as an SF and PF.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Choi is too soft to be playing PF but he does give the SF spot another tall and lanky body.

Kim Min-Goo figured in a car accident and was taken to the hospital by an ambulance for emergency treatment. Aside from a pelvic bruise and perhaps a concussion, but X-rays and CT scans are lined up later. Yoo Jae-Hak said that Kim is excused from training this weekend until he gets the clean medical green light.

According to KCC's twitter fans, Kim swerved as a speeding truck was trying to cut him and his car ended up ramming by another truck coming up.

we the basketball mad Filipinos offer our prayers to Kim. hope he recovers soon

Kim min goo caused a car accident while drunk driving with a BAC(Blood Alcohol Content) of 0.060 percent and he didn’t wear seat belt.

His car hit a traffic light at 3 A.M.

He was seriously injured. (a hip joint, head)

Hope it will not be like an Aidin Nikkah Bahrami or Drazen Petrovic car accident.

PRAYERS FOR HIS RECOVERY!
