Choi Junyong scored 13p, 3a in 16min.
and he played PG position in 4Q

Great potential for this Korean team in the future. As to what I have seen their development is ahead as that of the Chinese players. I like how the number 4 plays, very accurate from the outside. Lee also has godd footwork for a big man.

Looks like Korea would be there perennial top 3 contender but have a strong feeling that they will never win it all .. (Lebanon is a different case they came into the Yao Ming era in 2005)..they quick and good but they lack that one thing..

Korea's aim is to finish the top three with a championship appearance already a bonus if that happens. Given their preparations and low budget, they would have exceeded expectations if they finish top three. If they fall outside the top three of the knockout phase, then that is the team's realistic expectations.

This tournament is to prepare for the 2014 Asian games.

What would an increased budget change things for Korea? Like more pro players playing.. more advanced training? better tuneup matches?

Better training in terms of quality opposition. 2013 marks that their only quality opposition is found in the Jones Cup. They were supposed to train in Latvia but that was scrapped as budget is reserved for the 2014 Asian games training. Plus with the lack of budget, they don't have sorties to send their scouts abroad. They relied heavily on the Jones Cup and game footages from various media.

Philippines used to have a good budget anytime we send a national team in there..scouts would never be a problem for us due to the power of internet..and we spend also a lot on getting players abroad so sending scouts abroad isn't much an issue either

Highlight against Kazakhstan. Kim Min-Goo's marksmanship played good that night. He has come a long way from Mr. Slasher with Kyung-Hee. Now his all around game is starting to benefit Korea. He will be very good in the KBL. Reminds me of a young Kang Byung-Hyun.

So they value th pe Asian Games more than the Fiba Asia? Why is that so?

Always have been. Majority of the Korean population don't follow FIBA tournaments, but they do watch sports events like the Olympics, Asian games on which Korean athletes participate as a contingent. KBA has a history of prioritizing the Asian games as per team preparations are concerned. It was their buildup for the 2006 Asian games and the 2010 Asian games that saw the Korean team become somewhat of a jet-setter through trips abroad.

I see. Thanks

#13, Choi Joon-Young seems to have taken a liking to Jollibee. Ate two Ultimate Burger Steak Meal and an Aloha burger.

hahaha, must be the novelty thing. sick and tired of those, hehe.

hmmm... are you with the team? you certainly have a lot of up to date info on them.

so south korea prioritizes asian games.

philippines has shifted focus from asian games to fiba events, opting to shoot for the world champs and olympics. but I heard that qualifying for world champs would be like that of the fifa world cup with home and away formats so I guess asian games would gain more prestige if there would be no more fiba asia champs.

with asian games out of fiba jurisdiction, some players ineligible because of the citizenship before 16 years old rule would be allowed to play. I think it would be more exciting.

I just follow them on twitter. They tweet and post on facebook a lot when offcourt. Yes, the upcoming format for the next world cup qualifiers is modeled similar to the FIFA qualifications leg where inter-domestic regions play a progressive series unlike that of today's one tournament spanning a number of days.

From what I read, Korea will be tapping more into the college players when the new format rolls around due to the potential unavailability with the KBL players and in cases where teams maybe unwilling to lend players due to the conflict of schedules. It affects it seems all the countries with leagues that extends to months.

how long does the korea league run? is it only one championship?

here in the philippines, the PBA runs for roughly 10 months with 3 championships. one is all filipino and then two import conferences.

KBL season is patterned like the NBA regular season where in the KBL, there 52 regular season games. Top six finishers advance into the playoffs.

After we get to wbc if we get lucky this year, the chase of getting into outside of asian basketball would be over already.. Its time to really regain our Asian glory thru Asian Games..

The new format in my opinion would only worsen the popularity of the game instead of promoting it. There would be less people be interested due to players being unavailable. It would also be hard to be a good team there since it would take a month or two to know who qualified. This is what they have been doing as well in the qualifers for the eurobasket.

I also think that this tournament should be the most important/prestigious for the countries since a good finish here would push you to the world stage. In football, its the opposite, countries use their young/junior teams during the olympics and use their senior teams during the world cup. Just check the 2012 olympics.
