Since the international boxing authorities instituted the current buttom-push scoring system I've seen some pretty horrible decisions over the years. The current system is really no better than what we had before 1992 when judges scored the matches, which were often made politically or from bribes.
I think there are two ways to clean up the sport:

1) Multiple judging system: You can have 5 or 7 officials from around the world score round by round. Using the professional 10/9 system of scoring, the highest and lowest score at the end of four rounds would be thrown out (similiar to the process used in scoring figure skating) and the 3 or 5 remaining judges' scores would be tabulated and a decision would be made.

2) Technological solution: If we can put people into outer space then certainly we can create technological solutions for taking human bias out of the judging. The point of boxing is to judge scoring blows, which is nearly impossible under the current system. To put an end to this, I envision boxers wearing skin-tight vests with scoring censors placed on the center of the abdomin and two on the left and right of the abdomin (kidney spots). For facial blows, scoring censors can be placed around the rim of the head gear.

The technological solution is probably years away from being implimented, so the first solution appears more feasible in the short term. Boxing organizers have got to scrap the current system or I believe this wonderful sport will not be included in future Olympics.

Arroyo lost 11-2 in a fight where he landed the best punches

I just cant understand Olympic boxing, im really confused

I suggest that this sport be eliminated for the Olympics for a while so their bosses scramble to find long term solution to this problem. they seem to be dilly dallying for too long already!

If I'm not mistaken ,previously they have the no.1 suggestion by federoy in place. The five judges scores the bout by round. However judges being human,
it is difficult to put bias aside. It was not uncommon in those days for
asian judges to score the round in favor to asian fighter while the european
judges scores the same fight in favor to european fighters.

So they came up with this present day system. The idea is to get rid of the bias
and to score the bout as it happen before their eyes.Out of 5 judges, at least 3
must almost simultaneously push a button, either red or blue, when a punch is
landed. the drawback to this system is, you must also have judges who are
good at nintendo or playstation. I have tried to play the sony game, and
believe me , its not easy to push the left hand and right hand button to hit
the target.

Federoy no. 2 suggestion while well thought out, do have some problem.
How to build those chip as sturdy as possible so it won't break from repeated
strong blows.

My 2 cent worth suggestion is this.

Why not score the bout via slow motion tv replay.and release the score
1 or 2 hours after the bout.Surely we can wait that long , it's not like we
are always out of time and must know the result immediately.

why wont they imitate how fencers scores a point in fencing, i think there's a sensor of sort in the in their sword (epee, sabre etc.) if they could put that in the boxers glove.

good suggestion but the glove wont know if it placed a hit on a block or placed a good hit. computers were the solution back in the day.
