so you have to pay for wildcards now?

According to the news if you want to get a wildcard you should pay 0.5-1.5mil Euros :eek:
Any detail info about this?
 
I think politics and $$$ play a big role on who will get the Wild Card. Do you think that FIBA will be fair in giving the Wild Cards out for those who truly deserves it? And also, the drawings for the grouping of teams, is it a random drawing? I would like to see the grouping for the WC because this will show me how the strong teams vs the weak teams are group together. Who will have an advantage or disadvantage in the grouping.
 
leb dont want it anymore we dont care that much about being in the WBC as we were there in the last 2 editions if it were the olympics i would see leb paying ....as for the draws they are definitely not random ...china is always with USA as USA is considered the best and china is the best between the pot D teams which are usually the asian/african teams and new zealand ...USA will be again with china unless fiba sees iran as the better team which i doubt if YAO is there ...
 
I wonder if they have been doing this in the past, or is this a new phenomena. If it's the later, i think the future of international basketball might be screwed over some nasty tendencies involving money.

Well, i guess Lithuania will miss out on 2010 WC, because our basketball federation just doesn't have that kind of money to waste....

No, it's not totally random. There're pots with strongest team, weaker ones, weakest. F.e. 4 pots with 6 teams each, also teams from each continent is gradually divided to each group, f.e. if there're 4 teams from Asia, they all must be in different groups.
I've watvhed Olympics draw and didn't see anything suspicious, don't think there're smth different regarding WC draw
 
WELL, IF THAT IS THE RULE, THEN QATAR GUARANTEES A PLACE, Ohhh AND UAE, WHAT about RUSSIA AND UK!?!?!?!
 
I guess, UK will get a wild card now... And I fear that Lithuania won't... :(
 
i won't be proud if we paid to participate, which i doubt :rolleyes:.

after all i'm not exited about lebanon being in the WBC any more, i mean participating by a wild card invitation is not an acheivment and the ppl will tell us u are in turky for sympathy, any way we don't want ur paid sympathy FIBA cuz we are lebanese,

we will be in london2012 proudly with pride ;).
