There is always an end to a trend. Just like that one team who always lose in semis but wins the bronze before the trend stopped in their 4th try.

Trend? I actually meant that they has a decent chance to finish 4th again not because of some trend, but cause I don't see them beating USA or Spain in bronze medal game if they'll lose tonight. It's quite strange to look for trends when we are talking about competition held every 4 years

I'd be interested to see what the American fans think about it, who they think is a bigger threat to America and who pushed them harder in the group games.

This American believes that Aus is a bigger threat than Serbia. Still Serbia can not be taken lightly. IMHO the order of threats is. 1. Australia 2. Spain 3. Serbia. All these teams can beat this Team USA. I think Spain has a 50/50 chance to win today.

If the same results occur every incident (e.g. every time they lose in the semis, they lose in the battle for 3rd) for a marked period of time, that is a trend. It does not matter if the competition is annual, bi-annual, every 2 years, or every 4 years.

But I agree with you. Spain and US will get the gold and the bronze. And I am hoping it to be in that order.

Call it what you want but Australia has historically not been good in this spot. Blowout losses to Yugoslavia in '88, France on their home court in '00 and the USA in '96.

In math it would be a trend, but I think in sports, it's just inaccurate to call some results a trend, especially when it happens with such big interval of time. Circumstances changes too much in 4 years cycle - players, coaches might change, rivals are different, even locations matters. Anyway, everyone can call it as they want, doesn't matter, I just hope for Aussies to win and me have a beer already tomorrow :)

historically aussies were even worse with their world stage quarterfinal record and still made it to the semis.
that being said, don't think anyone should look into past results.
this team is obviously different.

I'm glad you are still alive friend. Maybe the Croatian Bogut will avenge Coatia today.

alive and kicking.
last year entire aussie team spent part of their preparations in Croatia and even if Bogut is proud of his croatian origins don't know if that is good for him in this case.
knowing how croatians usually end up against Serbia :p

Did the federation ever try to approach him to play with Croatia ?

As far as I know no.
he was and is a product of australian basketball and he owes everything to them and their basketball system.

If the Serbians show maturity in this game , they will be hard to beat, but maturity is their primary weakness being "a young" team. If bogdanovic, Jokic and Nedovic (although may not think highly of him) shows poise with Teo, a euro championship is inevitable in the future..

I dont want them to play for silver, just drop the game if they do 2014 again. I want them to have shot at the gold....

Serbia is Europe's last team standing and last hope. If they lose this will be the first time no European team in the final since 1936 the first Olympic basketball tournament.

So wow, for the second time history is against serbia..

I'll give you another one. Since 1992 NBA-USA teams are undefeated 13-0 in tournament play when they face an opponent for the second time. So both Australia and Serbia fall into this category.
