I'd be interested to see what the American fans think about it, who they think is a bigger threat to America and who pushed them harder in the group games.

Only threat to the US is the US. If they play anywhere near their potential Australia or Serbia shouldn't be within 20 points.
Spain looks like the best team out of the three and I think would handle Australia easily. Serbia would give Spain a better challenge, but I still think Spain would win.

I agree with the poster about the USA's familiarity with he Aussie players. These are just not great players in the NBA, they would need to play out of their minds coupled with the US being dysfunctional to keep close. But as we already saw, that can happen.

The Aussie's desperately need 25-30 points from Mills and it seems like if you told Butler or Thompson all they need to do the entire game is blanket Mills the game wouldn't be close.

3 straight final four appearance at least for the Serbians under Djordevic and what had change from the previous coaches? as I observe the Serbian NT was used as a tool back then to market young players to have contract in the euro teams, some really arent cut to the nt, its better to ahve Bircevic, Stimac and Simonovic who know their role on the team rather than a young guy who just there to apply for a job..

Might actually be Joe Ingles... :D

I wish lol.

But honestly the only ones who looked liked overrated nba players were the Serbian ones when Australia played them, and made them look like boys. Except the Serbian centre he played great.

I'll let the boomers do the talking for me, then the Europeans might have to admit Australia have the far better players, the fact that Australia has like 8 nba players now speaks volumes about the caliuatites of the players we are producing. It's not easy to make the nba. How many Serbians are in the nba ? Instead of attacking a poster personally lol how about you guys talk about the national teams lol.

If Bairstow could make the NBA, everyone can... :D

Not that hard to find out. Here it is:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_foreign_NBA_players

You can find Australia on the list there. Also you can see how other Europeans stack vs them. This year we will have 3, maybe 4 if Jankovic sticks around in Miami. That's more than enough for now. If Exum can be an NBA player than Simonovic is fucking Lebron :D

lol oh well the nba clubs must see talent in the Aussies, or should you be picking the players ?

They often make great choices. Like Milicic from Serbia or Bogut 1st overall :D :D :D

Drops the mic...

Australia gave the US a harder first three quarters, Serbia gave the US a harder last three quarters. The US outplayed AUS in the 4th, and crushed SRB in the first. Bit of a cop out answer so I'll drop this bomb compensate. I fear Spain more than both teams combined. If the US survive that game, the fact that both teams are fresh in the minds of the US means there will be no surprises and a hefty amount of motivation to play better.

And by that comment, you announce yourself either to be a fool, or a hater, take your pick.:D

How about both. Still I gotta be doing something right and hitting a nerve if you registered on IBN for a first comment to be this :D :D :D

I guess I wanna watch some YACHTING(!) οn RERUN(!!!) or WOMEN(!!) basketball instead of this.Retarded ppl.

Fair comment, Spain are a proven team on the world stage with great players. Australia beat Spain in a warm up in house game 2 days before the games started. Not offical I know. But still just my opinion people are underestimating this Australian team because they are bench players. And that's fine I'd rather teams underestimate us, let's see if they can keep it up in the big games and secure Australia's first ever medal, which will be a huge boost to the sport here, it's not even a big sport here yet.

This is an absolutely fair comment.

So I'll break down my, and I believe the greater US psychology in this (cue CHBB to give me shit any second now)

Respect/admiration/fear is earned, and with the US it is slow to happen for obvious reasons. Not every team that gives us a close game in the group stage typically earns that respect.

The teams that do earn that respect, do it in the knockout stage.

Argentina was a shell of the team that won it all on '04, but US media, US fans gave them far more respect than the team probably deserved in terms of threat level and that's because they earned it in the past.

Spain, though never having beaten the US in a knock out stage, has scared the living bejesus out of the US in back to back Olympic finals, and won a world championship besides.

Australia has had a fantastic tournament so far, but a damn fantastic group stage and beating Croatia don't breed worry/fear. It breeds respect. Australia has another step to take before that.

Same goes for Serbia really. The last time Serbia faced the US in a knock out stage they got murdered, absolutely and totally, the game they had in the group stage breeds cautiousness but nothing beyond that.

The knock out stage is what really matters. Australia (and Serbia also) is oh so close to that next level, from presumptive power (*cough* Canada* *cough*) to actual legit global power.

To use NBA terms think Atlanta Hawks 2014-15. Fantastic regular season, but no one would respect them until they did something in the playoffs. They did nothing in the playoffs and got no respect.

Comparatively think 2014-15 Golden State Warriors (hey Bogut's team), no one respected them until the playoffs, but they proved it.

So to Serbia/Australia are you Warriors or are you Hawks?

There is little I can contribute regarding the match-up of these two teams save to say I don't think there is too much between them. It is certainly not a match to bet on head to head.

My more pressing concern is what is in FIBA's interests. Does FIBA really want a final without a European team? If there are 50/50 calls I think Serbia will get them (not that they will necessarily need them) , whereas in the pool game Oz seemed to me to get more than their share. All of the above is predicated on a US win over Spain in the first semi of course.

Well like Spain is going to beat USA, but still good luck :)))

I wasn't predicting the outcome of the game. Serbia is not a champion team because they haven't won anything since 2002 (and there's no one left from that squad). Meanwhile Australians are the current Oceania champions. So the heart of a champion, if it really exists and has any influence, belongs to Australia and not Serbia.

As a side note, I'm always amazed at how easily Serbian fans overestimate their team stature and crunch-time prowess. It's like they project the successes of the past century into the current incarnation of their national team. When the reality is they haven't won squat for a really long time, and each and every tournament they take a sound beating sooner or later.

Serbia is the current world vice champion, and Australia has beaten New Zealand to be Oceania champion, you cannot be serious to say Australia has better champion record recently.
