Juicy matchup no doubt. Can the Philippines stop the outside shooting of Japan?

Can Japan run with the pace of the Philippines?

Douthit is the key to success.Pick n Roll with him as the option to finish around the basket.Let Aguilar play beside him...wont happen though.

Aguilar might be used now by the coach..he could spring surprises against the japanese twins..

I hope we can just play basketball.

I hope fiba asia stops putting obstacles off the court for our team.

and I hope china does not get to host a fiba championship for a long time after this tournament. such a mess of a tournament..

for this game, japan is favored to win this game by most, but these two teams have not really met yet so it is hard to predict the outcome. so far, japan has had it easy, what happens when they get into a grind it out game with team pilipinas?

I have team pilipinas -10 point winners here.

Aguilar had a very good game vs Japan in Jones Cup 2009. Of course, it was under another coach. But he will make life miserable for the Takeuchi twins if Toroman lets him play.

Philippines should take this one, if Japan threes don't fall they will be in trouble, i believe Douthit can control the twins, Williams and De Ocampo can help too, Aguilar should have major minutes tonight because while the Japanese are tall they are not as heavy as the WABA teams, the return of Lassiter and Lutz will be a big help with the guard rotation where majority of our points come from. Goodluck!

This will be the most crucial game in Round 2 Group F obviously. This is the difference between the vaunted Koreans (Or maybe even Iran, if the latter falls off in Group E) and the pretenders named Chinese Taipei (which should be taken care of by either Japan/Philippines in the knockout QF-round easily.

Sim-ple really, win today's game and get a favorable road on the way to the semis. Lose, and meet Iran or Korea. That should be motivation enough.

I believe the Philippines have an advantage in the front court with Douthit, Aguilar, Williams, De Ocampo and Taulava that can be utilized to guard the Takeuchi twins on single coverage as Joji and Kosuke does not command a double team.

This checkmate on the front court allows the other members of the Philippines to stay at home with Japan's shooters.

While I expect Lassiter to check Kawamura in coverage.

For Japan, they need to rebound and put tremendous amount of energy on defense and getting second chance possessions while converting shots on both perimeter and distance. Since the Philippines have a strong interior defense, Japan will need to stretch the floor and rely heavily on misdirection plays alongside timely seals and drop passes to back door plays and the open shooter.

I think Philippines +12 in victory.

That's the main key really. How to clamp down on the shooters. If Japan starts cold, i think the Philippines can cruise to an easy one. But if they start hitting those shots early i think we'll be in for a long night with the decision made in the fourth-- and which team will find the composure at that point.

Whoever wins this match will win by no more than 5 points.

this is much touger match people expected than two, unlike korea Japan is a team who plays with fire a thing I can't see to the koreans even they can be arguably more talented as a team/individually.

I would like to bet on this one who would want to bet with Japan;)

phils just had a big win yesterday... but whats consistent with phils is their inconsistency... phils is an unpredictable team, sometimes they'll gonna win against an elite team then will lose on an average team... so really, you dont know where to rank them...

so, with douthit not 100% and phils still high on their emotional win against jordan yesterday, japan wins by 8... 1st half will be close, but japan will take over in the 3rd and the phils will play catch up the rest of the way...

i'd take that every single time. Over say a bad start where we trail by a considerable margin (8-10 points) in the first half and forced to make another rally... Make it close in the first half, and hope Japan folds before we do in the 3rd and 4th quarters...

Let's go for the win!!!!!:D

I'm for a 6 point win for either team.

A blow-out will be highly possible but to Japan's favor due to their impeccable showing from the field most especially their 3s in this tournament so far.

Perimeter defense would decide the game. - For Philippines.

Gang Rebounding and Inside D. - For Japan.

So it's a battle of canceling each others strong points.

Hope RP finds it's rhythm early on.

GO TEAM PILIPINAS!!! :)

Unfortunately,we can't use our Jones Cup game against Japan as a gauge against this team.

THIS team is totally different. The only guy they got from the Jones Cup squad was the guy who burned the hoops with 9 threes against us.

I'm actually worried we might underestimate them. Historically, when they send their best (like in the 80s and 90s), odds on Philippines VS Japan games have been close to 50-50 coming in.

Japan didn't have a good team in the 2000s but recently, just like the Philippines, they've begun taking steps to regain respectability. And they have a really tough, badass team.

But hey, we're finally playing a full game with a complete line-up for the FIRST TIME. It should make for one heck of a tough game.

I think this can go either way. But obviously I want the Philippines to win.

By the way, why does this forum keep deleting threads about HAGOP? (i'm being sarcastic here. I know why.) If anyone still wonders why Filipino fans hate hagop, check this out:
