Sacramento Kings Thread

Afflalo just bailed on the team. What was first a praised Three-and-D signing, becomes almost a bad player waiting to be waived. At this point, waive and bring in Malachi Richardson for a roster spot.
I scratched my head big time when they signed him after drafting a shooting guard like Malachi so high (not to mention their big man draft picks) and already having McLemore. Afflalo only put up the numbers he did in Milwaukee and Orlando because he's a ball-dominant player, and he did the same in New York.

Glad to see you back from the dead by the way. Been wondering where the scoop-man went to.

I'm also left in the dark on this. But we do have a bad track record of developing rookies with the exception of DMC and Isaiah Thomas. Malachi's time will come and he is a better shot creator than McLemore or Afflalo at this point.

Yeah definitely. When I saw him in that game against Virginia I was just blown away at how good he was at getting to the rim and the way he really took over that game despite it not being "his" team. I think he'd be a lottery pick had he stayed for his sophomore year but it's hard to find fault with a kid for coming out when he probably knew he would be a first-rounder.

Rudy Gay seems done for the season. Torn achilles and this will affect our trade scenarios next month.

Just a shame for both him and the team. This was probably his last shot at another big contract, and this was their only real shot at digging themselves out of the mess they've put themselves into with their decisions over the past decade. Only Cousins would get you anything real in return with Gay injured, and trading him is basically saying "We're done ever trying to win". So you're stuck with what you've got for the most part minus some small tweaks.

At least you'll get to see if Malachi can be that guy now. Though I'm sure the Kings start Barnes instead. Question is, which if any of the young bigs can play next to Cousins? I mean isn't it the time to find this stuff out?

I think Cousins will eventually sign the $200 million contract extension under the revised CBA. The thing with Joerger is that he likes the old-school type of big men in the mold of Koufos in tandem with Cousins. Basing on the rookie feedback, Joerger likes the progress of Georgios Papagiannis, so that could offer a bit of clue to what he might be planning to introduce into the lineup very soon. WCS seems lost and it seems Joerger is not a fan of the modern big-man who ply their trade in the perimeter, so that could also hint at Skal Labisserie still in the dog house.

The one I want to see get more minutes is Malachi Richardson since Afflalo is on a slump and McLemore looks frustrated. Temple has been a good pick up for us and the loss of Gay hurts our SF rotation. Hopefully, Casspi steps up and if ever Bogdan Bogdanovic comes next season, he will most likely be an SF for us.

Still, I like the stability and footprint that Joerger brings to us. That is after years of team reboots with each successive season.

Man I admire your optimism. True, Bogdan should be a great guy to have on the wing next year, especially if one of those two young shooting guards steps up the rest of the season. I like the young Greek, too. I just wonder how a team can win without a shot-blocker next to Cousins, who I've never for a second believed they "had" to trade. I think people keep saying that because they want Cousins on their team and can't have him. I think if you all can get a legit two-way starter on the wing and a top-flight point guard you can really have something. Just going to be hard to get either in free agency or the second round. Trading Gay would've gotten you at least a good young player and/or a draft pick. Now when you're talking Achilles that's a pretty serious injury. I mean would you even want him back if he decided not to opt out?

Willie Cauley-Stein is our next best hope for shot-blocking next to Cousins but alas he is in the Joerger doghouse. It's a case of player instincts where Cauley-Stein follows his defensive instincts --- often overriding Joerger's defensive plans. On Gay, I'd welcome him back as we badly need an SF next season. Without Gay, we have a serious void in the SF to further add to our PG and SG woes.

With the new CBA in place, it is unlikely we will get mid-tier FAs signing with us. Best we could do now is trade wisely for players who have either fallen out of the radar from team rotations or stars who want out of their cities. We essentially built this franchise with veteran trades going back to the days of Joe Kleine.

Finally a win. Team picked up their mess in the second quarter and it proved pivotal. Lawson and Cauley-Stein finally showed up again as their energy got us the comeback. Cousins performed well late in the game, to salvage an off-night in shooting.

Also, Malachi Richardson is finally getting the minutes from Joerger.

Malachi Richardson got game. He helped us comeback in the 2nd quarter. Career high 12pts against Cleveland. Also, Cauley-Stein is showing up with the new found trust by Joerger.

I don't get Joerger personally but he did win a lot in Memphis so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt here. I'm just thinking it's hard to win anything real without shotblocking. True, so ideally a one year deal maybe while you groom Bodganovic?

True. I think people don't really understand how important having the right kind of players for the right city is. Big but not huge markets -such as Houston- can get away with not worrying about that but you can't be constantly replacing like the Miami Marlins or something. I think you guys have done a good job for quite awhile of finding guys who fit Sacramento, moreso than a lot of other franchises. Cousins being a small town guy I think helps tremendously, as you don't have to worry about him feeling the need to go to a big market. That said, I do think there are free agents to be had, just overlooked guys probably moreso than big names.

Told you he could ball. That kid has a ton of upside as a scorer. I just wonder if he can defend.

Sacramento has apparently been engaging in trade talks on Cousins. If they move him... just wow.

Basing on social media chatter, Kings will unload a wing or two. Could be McLemore, Afflalo and Casspi.
