Sacramento Kings Thread

Two names pop up for the Sacramento Kings in a potential draft day trade. First is the unhappy point guard of the Houston Rockets, Kyle Lowry. Second is the point forward star of the Philadelphia 76ers Andre Iguodala.

Nabbing Lowry is a risk given his resume of attitude problems and the glaring inclination to minutes. An acquisition of Lowry may mean that Isaiah Thomas Jr. could be traded. If there is anything good on Lowry is his versatility at the point.

While Andre Iguodala, if he ever comes to Sacramento through trade, may mean that Tyreke Evans could have been traded to get Iguodala. Iguodala is solid small forward that will provide scoring and defense on the wings that the Kings lacked despite Evans improving defensively last year by a bit. A John Salmons amnesty will help absorb the contract of Iguodala and to have a bit more space for re-signing or extending players.

Draft day could be wheeling and dealing once again for Geoff Petrie.

Cowbell Kingdom reported that the Sacramento Kings have rejected the offer of the Houston Rockets for Tyreke Evans and the fifth overall pick.

Geoff Petrie according to sources stated that Evans is still a part of the franchise on moving forward and the fifth overall pick guarantees safety over the volatility of two lower picks.

The Sacramento Kings worked out Moe Harkless. A member of the Maloof family was in attendance and the staff were fully concentrated in the prospect. The rumor that the Kings may trade down still persists and it is a possibility that the Kings are scouting players in the lower levels when they do trade down.

The Kings are currently filled with all positions, but we need a defensive bigman that will anchor the half-court set.

From what I have been reading, the Houston Rockets have offered their first round picks and point guard Kyle Lowry for the Sacramento Kings' Tyreke Evans amd the fifth overall pick.

While the current news goes that the Kings are in discussion with the Golden State Warriors about swapping the fifth overall pick for the 7th overall pick.

I'm hearing a lot of talk about projected top-5 prospects (particularly Harrison Barnes and MKG) opting NOT to work out for the Kings... along with the fact that we haven't really worked out any of the top-5 guys. Does this mean we're likely going to trade down (maybe in a deal involving Tyreke)? Or does it mean nobody wants to play in Sacramento? ... maybe both?

I interpret it as a sign where the likes of Robinson, Barnes and Gilchrist seem sure that they will be drafted prior to the fifth position. I think the Kings knows this too and seem to be contemplating on trading down should Geoff Petrie find the package advantageous.

There is the strong possibility that the Kings worked out a potential target on the lower projections, that indicates that we are moving down in the order to draft. So it seems that we will be drafting a player that never really worked out with us.

Donte Greene tweeted:

Bye-Bye SAC! Been a good 4yrs. Made so many friends and love all da fans!!!! #grindtime #on2danext #COS

Greene is one of my personal favorite players in Sacramento. Always upbeat and an overall nice guy that will strike a pose for the fans. I am sad to see him go, but I wish him the best.

EDIT:

I can understand on why the Kings did not extend a qualifying offer. Aside from his statistical production as a role player, Greene did not develop or made himself into the player that the team wanted him to be. Geoff Petrie and Paul Westphal back then envisioned Greene to be a defensive winger that plays power forward.

Greene is surprisingly mobile and athletic given his 6'11 and 230 lbs frame, but he shied away from contact on the defensive end. In the offense, he shot so many three point attempts as well as settling for the contested jumpshot instead of attacking the rim.

In Keith Smart's system, it was clear that Greene could not thrive due to his reluctance to be aggressive. Greene could not be productive in either small forward or power forward under Smart's system.

I like his character, effort, and athleticism ... but I'm not sure how I feel about the Robinson pick. At face value, he's a lot like JJ Hickson (similar size, athleticism,, but lacking any actual go-to moves, especially in the post). And considering how he's supposed to be the most "NBA-ready" of the top guys, I'm not even sure he's gonna win the starting job over JT this year.

But at the very least, we've got ourselves a hard-worker, and between him, DMC, and JT, we're never going to get out-rebounded... like ever.

At this point, we're just hauling talent for the long run. Alongside Hassan Whiteside and Chuck Hayes, it is favorable to have another PF presence. We are lacking in front-men no more.

Glad we got Robinson he is the one i was hoping we would pick him:D hope he works out for us.

I think the Kings have plans for Robinson and that is to be a Jason Thompson replacement if Robinson develops into a better player overall.

I hope this happens, the kids been through a lot and i feel he has heart.

Forward Tyler Honeycutt has been diagnosed with a stress fracture on the metatarsal of his right foot.

The Sacramento Kings have sent Orlando Johnson, the 36th overall draft pick in last night's draft to the Indiana Pacers for cash considerations.

Thomas Robinson will hold his first press appearance for the Sacramento Kings this coming Saturday. Robinson requested the jersey number zero #0.

Terrence Williams is now an unrestricted free agent. He recently twitted a poll asking the fans on where do they want him to play. No news as of yet if the Sacramento Kings are planning to extend a contract offer. Williams will test the free agency market.

His small success as the Kings' sixth man late last season should give him some leverage for other teams. Though he has this history of being a head case for the New Jersey Nets and the Houston Rockets. But he was well behaved with the Kings and I would prefer him being back next season.
