Brad Miller

Former Sacramento Kings center Brad Miller (Minnesota Timberwolves) has announced his retirement. He played with the fab five of Divac, Webber, Stojakovic, Christie and Bibby. He lead us to the playoffs in 2006. He was also a member of the 2006 Team USA that participated in the World Championships. A good 13 year career.

Davis and Cousins Possible USA Select Team Members

Jerry Colangelo, USA Basketball Chairman, trounced any assumptions that Anthony Davis could be added to the roster for this year's Olympic team in London.

There is a possibility that he and a former Cat could be on the USA Select Team though.

Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com that the Sacramento Kings have been quietly pushing for second-year center DeMarcus Cousins to be added to the preliminary roster and made eligible for the roster spot originally set aside for Howard. However, the sources said Cousins is only being considered for the select squad that will train in Las Vegas concurrently with the Olympic squad from July 6-11 and scrimmage against Krzyzewski's team before Team USA's five exhibition games leading up to the Olympics.

Cousins and fellow Kentucky big man Anthony Davis, who is widely expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in the June draft, are among the players contending for select team invites.

"That's wide open," Colangelo said. "We're getting calls from a lot of agents with players who want to play on the select team, which is very good. That's very positive."

It would certainly be an honor for me and Demarcus Cousins as well as for the Sacramento Kings organization to be a part of the USA Select Team. In fact, Tyreke Evans should be considered as well.

Statement from the team's spokesman intended for the press:

This morning, at Mayor Kevin Johnson's request, the Mayor and representatives of the Kings met for a second day of informal talks at City Hall and could not reach an agreement. At this time no further meetings with the City are scheduled.

The Kings will continue the operations of the organization and building on the franchise's young nucleus of players.

Andre Drummond of UCONN, a potential draft pick by the Sacramento Kings.

I would welcome it if the Kings draft Drummond. We will have a center in Drummond and Demarcus Cousins as the power forward.

The Sacramento Kings won the tie breaker with the New Jersey Nets and the Kings will have the fifth best chance of landing the first pick overall in the coming lottery.

Voisin: Kings' DeMarcus Cousins eyes Olympic shot

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- DeMarcus Cousins wants to play for the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, but barring another series of freakish injuries to more established frontcourt stars, that isn't going to happen.

But in two years? The Sacramento Kings' center should be on Team USA's World Championship squad.

In four years? Assuming USA Basketball doesn't buckle under pressure from Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban and change the rules, restricting national team participation to collegians, Cousins should anchor the 2016 Olympic effort.

In the more immediate future, USA Basketball czar Jerry Colangelo is inviting Cousins to join the Select team of young NBA stars who will train with Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and the other 2012 Olympians in July and then form the nucleus of future national teams.

Cousins wanted more. He wanted to be on the Olympic team now.

"We're going to add another one or two players to our (finalist) list," Colangelo said Tuesday from Las Vegas. "Cousins will not be one of them. But we've been told he is very interested in playing with the Select team, and that will get him in the cycle for (future) teams."

After everything that has transpired in Cousins' brief but eventful NBA career, just being included in the Team USA conversation is a coup. Cousins should forget about Kings and Queens and the London Bridge, and concern himself with dominating the training sessions in Las Vegas and Washington, D.C.

"Statistically, you can easily make the argument that DeMarcus is in the group of the top 20 players already," said John Greig, Cousins' agent. "But it's so easy to pencil him in, saying this is who he is. I do think the (perception) is changing, though." Greig's right. It is. And if injuries continue crippling the 2012 squad? U.S. centers are precious and few, and few are as gifted or as physical or durable as Cousins.

With Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard unavailable because of a back injury, the finalists list includes one true center -- Tyson Chandler of the New York Knicks. Los Angeles Laker center Andrew Bynum isn't interested.

So never say never.

OK, this time last year we could have said never. This time last year, Cousins was coming off a volatile rookie season that included repeated verbal spats with former coach Paul Westphal, too many instances when he stood and watched opponents sprint downcourt, and far too many times when his body language was more of a downer than his poor conditioning.

To his credit, though, Cousins, 21, retreated to the gym during the summer and arrived at training camp in far better shape. He lost much of his baby fat and started losing the attitude. When Westphal issued what team officials refer to as a "him or me" ultimatum seven games into the season, the organization's response was a no-brainer; Keith Smart took over and supervised a serious Cousins growth spurt that led to averages of 18.1 points and 11 rebounds, including a league-leading 4.1 on the offensive end. He progressed in virtually every facet of his game and made dramatic strides in both demeanor and conditioning.

"The main thing is to get him better at finishing around the rim," Smart said, "and that's a matter of being in good enough shape to fight through that fatigue."

Kings assistant Clifford Ray, who worked with Howard in Orlando, addressed Cousins' other most obvious issue: maintaining his composure.

"DeMarcus needs to develop patience with his teammates and with the referees," Ray said. "When he gets frustrated, he just has to keep playing. Then the other things -- setting better screens, putting his body in position to block shots -- will come easier. But from what I heard (about Cousins) compared to what I've seen since Keith brought me in? You kidding me? Great improvement. You see it. We all see it. He has talents that don't come around very often."

All of which is why Cousins should swallow his disappointment and go to Las Vegas and Washington, where he can reintroduce himself as a fiercely competitive and increasingly appealing presence.

Greig said he was "95 percent sure" Cousins would accept despite his disappointment and the disruptions to his summer plans. According to Greig, Cousins took a weekend breather when the season ended and then called with one question: "When are we getting started?"

Cousins will not suit up for the London Olympics, but a participation with the national team is not far off in the future.

General Manager Geoff Petrie said that the Sacramento Kings will tender a Qualifying Offer to forward / center Jason Thompson. As for Donte Greene, a front office decision will be made after the draft.

Kings Players Reveal Offseason Plans

Personally, I hope Donte Greene keeps on working on his shooting and try to maintain his shape. Tyreke Evans still needs to practice his shooting. A shooting coach is really recommended here to correct his overall shooting form. As for Demarcus Cousins, the best way to take it to the next level is go the Kevin Love route of workouts. Also, Cousins needs more upper body strength.

Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson stated that arena plans for the city dubbed as "Plan B" will be unveiled in June, next month.

Rider University product Jason Thompson yearns for playoffs

Jason Thompson relishes to play in the playoffs. This offseason, Thompson is a restricted free agent and the Sacramento Kings have the option to match the offers of interested NBA teams like the Atlanta Hawks and the Miami HEAT. The Kings chose not to extend Thompson this season, thus adding uncertainty on his future with the team. In the 2013 offseason, Thompson may choose to sign with a playoff team; provided that the Kings could trade him anytime in the offseason and season for this year.

Thompson has seen up and down with the team. In the 2008-09 season, it was a bad year for everyone. The past season, Thompson has shown flashes of a maturing player. He is productive alongside Demarcus Cousins.

Bobby Jackson, the former Sacramento Kings player and current assistant coach to head coach Keith Smart, will coach the Sacramento Kings team in the NBA Summer League that is to be held in Las Vegas.

Isaiah Thomas finished seventh in voting for the Rookie of the Year... This exactly shows just how much people actually watch him.

Ideally, Thomas should have ended up #2 in voting. But that is what the fans dictate. Good thing is that Keith Smart has Isaiah Thomas and that partnership has pushed us to a bit of good direction in terms of stability on the court.
