tyreke evans G
omri casspi G/F
beno udrih PG

go kings!!! i love underdogs!!!

+Francisco Garica SG
+Jon Brockman C (Qualifying offer extended)

Nowhere to go but up since we have seen the worst of the Ron Artest and Kevin Martin era where the Kings where 17-65 in 08-09 and 25-57 under the Rookie year of Tyreke Evans where still the third worst record on the league.

Higher expectations this season but despite the CAP space of around $18Million (After the rookie contracts of Whiteside and Cousins) the Maloofs made no move yet despite the said CAP flexibility.

Stay tuned.

Finally, the Kings sign draft pick Demarcus Cousins. The terms of the deal are undisclosed at the moment.

Murrow would add shooting as an off-guard. I dunno about T-Mac though.:o

I agree. T-Mac, no thank you. Guys like that, who used to be superstars have a hard time deferring to other younger guys. He settles for way too many jumpers now that he's had all those injuries

I couldn't agree more. T-Mac would be detrimental to the young team. The Kings are better off finding pieces to fill up the deficiencies of the current roster.

CKR 13- being such a big Kings fan, I'd like to ask what you think the Kings should do with their remaining cap space? Any Free Agents you think we should target this year? Or hold on to our $ and target someone in particular next year? thoughts?

I have read about Petrie and Westphal's plan of maintaining CAP flexibility this season and see how this new roster would play out on the upcoming season and make a decision next summer as Landry and Thompson will be free agents then.

I for one would like to add some pieces like Anthony Murrow or JJ Redick plus another point guard but more likely the Kings plan to maintain some CAP flexibility by not over-spending and we do have a promising roster that is not weighted down by bad contracts (except Dalembert) which will be traded as an expiring contract, thus freeing up $12 Million worth of cap space.

More so, the development and the W/L coloumn will be a consummate factor in decisions this mid-season to the summer period.

but both redick and morrow sign with the bulls and nets respectively.. so who are still available in the market??

The Bulls have presented an offer sheet to restricted free agent JJ Redick while the Nets also presented an offers sheet to Anthony Murrow. Nothing final yet as their motherclubs do hold a qualifying counter offer (If) they choose to do so.

Nate Robinson is available and Quentin Richardson but it will be a long shot if the Kings would sign them despite the so called insider reports where such names where being floated. Still despite not having a third option at the PG spot, looks like Evans will start alongside Udrih and that is where Tyreke gets to play more minutes as a PG if Udrih is benched then they insert Garcia as SG.

From what I saw last, year, when Garcia was playing alongside Reke, Garcia not Evans, was the point guard of the team.

Westphal experimented but it was obvious that Garcia was uncomfortable with the task of bringing up the ball so he had Tyreke Evans as the second option at guard when Beno had to sit. Finished the season with Tyreke starting at SG and playing some PG in between those long minutes.

I disagree, That has been Francisco's role since his days in Louisville, he's a point forward and that's how he feels comfortable playing. that the role he played 3 season ago when Mike Bibby got injured, and afterwards when Bibby was traded. I guess you didn't get to see him play that much because he was injured most of the season. but when he was on the floor it was obvious that He had better play-maker skills than Evans.

The team should still get a real point guard, nonetheless. Beno is not the answer at the point, he's more of an undersized 2 than a one

Points taken on Francisco Garcia's background. Kindly elaborate on the statement that Garcia has better playmaking skills than Evans as last season, Garcia averaged only 1.5 APG while Evans was in between 5.5 APG. Were you referring to Garcia's play-calling on the offensive possession rather than Evans' game of improvising on the possession leading to an assist as Evans is clearly better at the drive n dish

That one I agree, another pure point at 1 would be beneficial but Udrih seems to be the man for the job as of the moment. He (Udrih) did a great job when Evans got injured and missed considerable games.

Among the players with guaranteed contracts are Omri Casspi, Donte Greene while drated rookies like Hassan Whiteside and DeMarcus Cousins will be seeing action for the Summer League later.

casspi and greene vying for small forward nod: they signed donald sloan

Kings notes: Casspi, Greene vying for small forward nod

Jockeying for the starting small forward spot has already begun.

Omri Casspi and Donté Greene are two players for that position that the Kings' coaching staff will monitor during the Las Vegas Summer League and into the fall training camp.

Greene started 50 games last season, his second in the NBA, and averaged 8.5 points. Those starts came at both forward spots, along with some time at guard.

Casspi started 31 games as a rookie, averaging 10.3 points.

There's plenty of opportunity for playing time. After having a glut of small forwards last season, the Kings now have Casspi, Greene and Francisco García.

Gone from that group are Andres Nocioni, Dominic McGuire and Ime Udoka. García also could play guard.

That leaves Greene and Casspi competing for the bulk of the playing time at small forward.

"It's a big summer for them," summer league coach Mario Elie said. "We're pretty solid everywhere else, but that's the one spot that we were changing a lot last year."

Third-year players often pass on summer league play unless coming off an injury. Greene, however, sees this summer as crucial.

"I could have chose to come out here and chose to just work out and not play," Greene said. "But I wanted to lock the spot up and show coaches that I'm ready to get that starting job and keep it for the whole season."

Casspi said his focus is on improvement.

"I'm trying to be the best I can be on the court," Casspi said.

No-shows – Center Connor Atchley and guards Ryan Thompson and Tyrese Rice didn't practice Friday morning.

All played for teams in the Orlando NBA Summer League, which ended Friday. Atchley played for New Jersey, Thompson for Boston and Rice for Utah.

Thompson arrived during the morning practice. Thompson and Rice practiced Friday evening.

Sloan signs – The Kings signed rookie guard Donald Sloan to one-year contract for the league minimum. Sloan was undrafted out of Texas A&M.

I like what I am seeing on Demarcus Cousins, his nimble footwork, perimeter shooting, rebounding and inside play reminds me of Chris Webber days.
