This is the last chance of Germany. If they will manage to win, they will be the actor of biggest upset of tournament. Spain will be out unless Turkey loses to Iceland! Nowitzki and his company will play their last card. The game of the day!

This would be the third time a host wouldn't make it to the next round after 87' (France) with Poland in 2009 and Sweden in 2003 being the other two NTs.

Nowitzki deserves a better farewell NT game than this, but than again Spain being eliminated out of the tournament would be a huge shock, one of the biggest ever.

You forgot Serbia (back then Serbia and Montenegro) in 2005.

Dunno why but i got this feeling that Germany's gonna grab this one.

Nowitzki not should must do something special. He was always disappointment. I wish we did not see such a bad formed Nowitzki. He is not the Nowitzki I will remember 10 years later.

And Gavel who is a very good player is just another disappointment. What is wrong with this guy?

S&M was 2nd in group and lost against France in the aditional playoff round between 2nd and 3rd placed teams. I count that as a sort of playoffs/next stage.

No he didn't. Serbia was second in the group, we lost 1/8 finals vs France. We made it out of the group with 1 loss.

Yeah I agree, we did pass to phase 1.5, or better said advanced out of the group phase to the knockout phase.

If Turkey beats Iceland, Turkey gets 3rd seed in Group A, the winner of this game gets 4th seed, and both advance to the next round.

If Iceland beats Turkey, however, the following scenarios apply:

If Spain wins, Germany is out, Spain gets 3rd seed, and Turkey gets 4th seed.
If Germany wins by 50+ points (lol), Spain is out, Germany gets 3rd seed, Turkey gets 4th seed.
If Germany wins by 1-49 points, Turkey is out.
If Germany wins by 1-15 points, Turkey is out, Spain gets 3rd seed, Germany gets 4th seed.
If Germany wins by 16-49 points, Turkey is out, Germany gets 3rd seed, Spain gets 4th seed.

Hope this helps.

can we say this in a do or die game for Spain as well? no way they will lose this one.

right.. but this edition we have four hosting countries.. so the odds are far higher :p

This part is not right ;) With a win Turkey can be 2nd, 3rd or 4th, depends on other two games. If Turkey wins, Spain too, latter can be 2nd or 3rd, only Germany will finish 4th if Turkey/Germany wins. I'm too lazy to write all scenarios one by one tho :)

Let me do it for you, then.

If Serbia beats Italy, Turkey beats Iceland, and Spain wins, Germany is out, and Turkey, Spain, and Italy are in a 3-way tie. Spain (+20) gets 2nd seed, followed by Italy (+5) at 3rd and Turkey (-25) at 4th.

If Italy beats Serbia, Italy tops the group. If Turkey beats Iceland, Turkey gets 3rd seed, and the winner of Spain-Germany advances to the next round.

BUT, if Iceland beats Turkey and Germany wins, the scenario I described between ESP, TUR, and GER above applies.

Wow. One game literally means everything in EuroBasket, huh?

What other choice does coach Flemming have but to play Nowitzki more? Don't forget that we are not only playing this tournament without our starting center Zirbes, we are also missing quite a fiew PF's with Theis, Kleber, Ohlbrecht or Harris. That leaves a huge hole in that area, with only Nowitzki, Pleiss and the unexperienced Voigtmann remaining. Even Benzing is just an emergency solution, since he usually plays SF.

Nevertheless, this will likely be the last tournament of Nowitzki. Considering how many players we are missing, those unfortunate losses against Serbia and Italy weren't all that bad.

Let me do it for you, then.

If Italy beats Serbia, Italy tops the group. If Turkey beats Iceland, Turkey gets 3rd seed, and the winner of Spain-Germany advances to the next round.

If Italy beats Serbia then Italy and Serbia will both have 4 wins, while Spain and Turkey can both have 3 wins at most if they win. So considering Turkey beats Iceland (as everyone else did) and Spain beats Germany, as also everyone who qualified did, then there is a two way tie of three wins between Spain and Turkey. Whereas Spain beat Turkey in the head to head matchup, so Spain will get the seed over Turkey. Spain will be third and Turkey forth.

If Italy looses and Spain, Turkey win. Then there will be a three way draw. Spain won by a big margin against Turkey, and this will put Spain in second place, then Italy, then Turkey. Turkey ends fourth because of the big loss against Spain and small margin win against Italy.

If Germany beats Spain, then it becomes more complicated, because if Turkey beats Iceland then Spain will be out. Turkey will proceed on third place with three wins. While Germany and Spain will have two wins each. And Germany will proceed based on the head to head match-up. In this scenario Turkey can also become second if Italy looses. Because Serbia will have 5 wins and Turkey and Italy will have three wins. Turkey beat Italy in the head to head match-up.

So the key game today is Germany-Spain. It impacts the seeds as well as who qualifies.

You probably mean '83 for France ! Germany was so unlucky, both in draw and the games themselves. I hope they play well tonight, could be Dirk's final stand..

I do not know if this has been mentioned already somewhere else but it seems that chemistry is not the best in the the German team at the moment.
Schroeder is criticizing coach Flemming for the foul strategy against Italy in public -> http://www.sport1.de/basketball/nat...itisiert-entscheidung-von-coach-chris-fleming
Nowitzki is criticizing Daniel Theis for not participating in this tournament in public http://m.sport1.de/basketball/natio...isiert-daniel-theis-und-brose-baskets-bamberg

Public criticism of this intensitiy is very rare in German sports. As a result I have the impression that a political blame game for the bad results has already started which has the potential to tear the team apart.
Maybe they should have waited for one more game.

Usually I expect this kind of things from the Greeks and not from Se Görmäns! ;)

I can't decide which team to support.
If Spain wins we will clinch Round of 16 and finish 4th place even if we lose to Iceland. However, most probably we will play with France. But if Israel wins then this will be another story.
If Germany wins and we win, either we will be second or third, depending on Serbia, Italy game result. But if we lose we are out...
I believe our team will win against iceland. But this is Turkey. You never know what we do... Especially if it is Ataman's team...
