It was to be expected that the last shot will come from a perimeter oriented play, surely Kalnietis could have done it better, however those last plays somewhat rarely get decided by a post play and that's for a good reason. Forcing the ball inside for the whole game it's hard to suddenly turn that around within the last minute, at least not to be taken for granted.
The point is, judging by the shot chart 46 of Lithuania's 74 points were made inside the paint, 19 from free throws and only 9 outside of the paint, to make it worse 4 of those by Valanciunas. That's inexcusable even if Belgium repeatedly insisted on defending down low with little help, to prevent inside-out passes. I don't remember a game such as this in a while.
Considering a three-tie would be likely, yesterdays win against Latvia secured the first place for Lithuania in case something extraordinary doesn't happen in their game vs. Czech republic which is hard to evaluate as they haven't yet played against any of the top3 teams of the group. They might be capable of beating Lithuania, however need to see more before believing it.
Congratulations once again to Belgians, with all those performances they've had so far including the friendlies they deserved to make an upset. They have been constant for 90% of the time, those 10% carried away their game against Latvia (as I said back than, not the best draw for them), while overall even if they've got some noticable quality on their roster are one of the teams that managed to squeeze the most out of it, game wise.
While Lojeski gets mentioned a lot, Van Rossom is the difference maker on court in my opinion, with him their game just makes a lot of sense.
