Ricky Rubio : The Next Pistol Pete / Drazen

It looks to me like Rubio is going to do his best to try and play in the NBA next season. Minnesota isn't the warmest city or the biggest market but they have good young basketball team that will basically built around him. Yes they drafted Jonny Flynn, but they drafted him to be a running mate with Rubio not to have a competition with Rubio. The NBA will be to great a draw for Rubio to turn down and he will play in Minnesota next year.

Rubio is staying with Joventut. After all the speculation on whether he would come to Minnesota, then possibly signing with Real Madrid, or F.C. Barcelona, he's staying put. This guy had better be really good in the next two years, or he is going to be treated as a total pariaha, when he finally does come to the NBA.

I don't know if the story ended there, there are rumours Joventut don't want him anymore or that if he stays he won't play. I guess the circus will go on.

I wonder if it is legal to force a player to pay buyout by threatening him with not playing.
If they don't wont him the may let him go, maybe even they would have to pay him for braking a contract.
I remember Maccabi did it to Batista so that they will have to pay him less.

Anyway, even if it is legal somehow, I don't believe DKV would do such thing, because it would look very nasty will hurt the club's name badly.

I'm just seeing the clock ticking and Rubio still hasn't got a club for next season

i do hope the Spanish team release him. i am currently a free agent fan in the NBA since last year (Jason Williams fan) and i will tag along Ricky wherever he goes :D

He has a club: Juventut Badalona... A club that is not ready to play him.

But he has a contract with this club. Maybe they will rent him to some 3rd division team.

I asked the same question at some Israeli forum and got an answer of a guy who is a layer that according to Israeli law a contract must be "innocent" (I'm not sure that it is a correct translation) and the answer to my question is "no" - you cannot force a player to pay a buyout, otherwise the contract would be used in non-innocent way so he will have the right to cancel it. But he doesn't know how it is in Spanish law.
Is there any Spanish layer here?

"Layer"?!

Oh, you mean liar. Gotcha...:D

It seems that the saga is approaching to its end... According to the press Ricky got an agreement with Barca.

Not over yet, Rubio just stated he's still a Joventut player, he hasn't been informed about anything.

Rubio has signed with Barcelona. He has an opt out in 2011. Now we don't have to think about him until then.
