Week 2 of the CBL's NDBL Division was better than the week before. All three games were entertaining, especially the last one! Guys were throwing down monster dunks, and others were nailing three pointers from all other the gym! Two teams got their first wins, and two others remained undefeated. The first game of the day featured the Altitude and RiverDragons. It was a close game for the most part, until the Altitude pulled away late for a 56 - 45 victory. With less than 4 minutes to go in the game, it was a 3 point game (41-44) in favor of the Altitude; that's when 5'10" Ivan Denson's bucket sparked a 10-4 run that sealed the deal for the 0-2 RiverDragons. The Altitude was led by Jalen Jackson with 17 pts, 12rebs, and the Riverdragons were led by Chris Jones (Shadowlawn) for the second week in a row with 17pts......In the second game the Dazzle outlasted the Flight, 75- 65 in a game of huge runs! Led by Adonis Thomas two spectacular dunks, the Dazzle would jump on top of the Flight early in the game by double digits. That's when Cameron Golden went on a run of his own scoring 9 sizzling points in a row, two deep threes and a "and 1", to cut into the deficit 24-19. After that Chris Jones (Melrose) led the Dazzle on a 21-5 run to close out the half and extend its lead to 45-24. Halfway through the second half, Golden, along with Alex Anderson, put on a serious hoops clinic, and helped the flight take the lead 53- 52! Not to be outdone, both Jones and Thomas would regroup and lead the Dazzle down the stretch and outscore the Flight 22-13. The Dazzle would go on to win and remain undefeated! Chris Jones and Adonis Thomas scored 25 pts and 23 points, respectively for the Dazzle; and Cameron Golden poured in 33 pts and Alex Anderson added 18 for the Flight....In the final game of the evening and perhaps the most exciting game, the Flame erased a 22 point halftime deficit and beat the RimRockers 52-48 in overtime! The RimRockers totally dominated the first half of this game 27- 5 behind the superior play of Bobby Parks Jr. and Andre Boone The second half was a entirely different story, or shoould I say a "Joseph Northington Story"!That's right, Joseph Northington single handedly destroyed the RimRockers in the second half! How ever they wanted it, he gave it to them! I don't recalled him missing a shot that half; it was incredible! With the Rimrockers more concern with individual offensive performances rather than playing defense, Northington led a furocious comeback, with help from Cedrick McAfee's. With 4 seconds left in regulation and trailing 41-44, Northington drilled a uncontested three point shot to send the game into overtime! In overtime, the flight would outscore the RimRockers 8 - 4 and pick up their first win, 52-48, in dramatic fashion. One Question....Where was the DEFENSE??? It seemed as if certain players were doing their very best not to defend Northington or anybody else! Northington would lead the Flame with 33pts, 9 rebs, Outstanding!........Guys, a little word of advice: Offense is going to be there. Any and everybody can probably score, but what about DEFENSE? Have some PRIDE and play some DEFENSE!!! Michael Jordan wasn't just a prolific scorer he was a super defender! multiple 1ST team NBA All Defensive team awards as well as being named Defensive Player of The Year!. Kobe Bryant is just the same! Kobe plays DEFENSE just as well as he plays offense! THE HOOP REPORT would really like to see more DEFENSE played in this league! DEFENSE is part of your game, so work on it!!!!!

this little bobb parks is gaining attention in the US. he might end up in one of the NCAA Div.1 school. Most likely WVU, VU or VCU.

could be the first pinoy to play in NBA he was born in RP right?? he'll be a big addition in the RP NT in the future...

we better get him in our youth team now even for just one tournament. If he get's invited to play for the US youth team... bye bye!

Bobby Parks Jr. could be a future Philippine Basketball superstar, & a future PBA multi-millionaire ....

Or he might choose to stay in his hometown and play for Memphis instead. Memphis has a much stronger program than any of those listed above. Additionally, his dad played for the same school when it was still known as Memphis State.

he was born in rp, live in rp and speak tagalog. however, playing in the NBA is still a longshot. he's still young at 14 and hopefully he can grow taller up to 6'10" since he is listed at 6'4" right now. he's a big shoo in for future rp team that if he's inclined to play for us.

he is the real deal..

maybe he can play for top teams in us.. duke, north carolina etc..

Practice report, Oct. 10

The Tigers held their final pre-preseason practice on Wednesday, and it was indeed a unique experience. The 15 Chinese coaches were all there, sitting along a wall at the Finch Center, scribbling notes and getting translation from Xia Song, who I wrote about in today’s newspaper article and in my previous blog entry. Plus, camera crews documenting the journey were all over the place. The Tigers’ usual media continent was there as well, along with a reporter from Slam Magazine in town working on a feature. The Tigers had several other visitors, including Bobby Parks and his son, Bobby Parks, Jr., who is one of the best young players in the city. I had a long talk with Chris Woolard, who is in charge of men’s basketball for Conference USA. He said the league’s TV schedule should come out sometime next week.

As for the practice itself, it once again felt like a late November or December practice. Freshman point guard Derrick Rose seems to get better each time I see him. Point guard Andre Allen has a sprained thumb on his right hand, but he’s playing through it. Guard Antonio Anderson’s wrist is bothering him, but he also practiced. At one point, I thought forward Pierre Niles was going to pass out from exhaustion after a drill. But to his credit, Niles took a minute to collect himself, went back in and finished practice.

One moment that stood out was when sophomore Doneal Mack went into traffic, made a nifty up-and-under move and finished a layup with his right hand. Remember, Mack is left-handed. At this point one year ago, Mack couldn’t make an uncontested layup with his right hand, much less a difficult one. It was such an impressive move, John Calipari had to stop practice for a minute and say to no one in particular, “Whooo…if he’s doing that with his right hand…Wow.” Calipari also got pumped up when forward Shawn Taggart executed a very nice-looking give-and-go to Joey Dorsey cutting in from the backdoor. It was the kind of play that showed Calipari that Taggart indeed has good instincts and skills.

And finally, I got a little preview of Memphis’ new uniforms. Don’t expect anything much different than what they were last year. The striping on last year’s uniforms actually did not meet NCAA specification. Since that was adidas’ goof, the NCAA let Memphis and a couple other teams who were wearing that uniform template finish the year with it. Basically, this year’s edition is the same uniform with some adjustment on the stripes.
