Man, the question remains: do you want flopping to keep happening with influence in the game? I don't.

Not if it's replaced by endless disputes over whether someone should have been penalized for flopping or games decided by random flop/not flop calls...sometimes the cure is worse than the disease.

I think flopping is an embaressment to the game of basketball. I hope that one day we can have a basketball game where there are no whistles except for out of bounds and for actual fouls.

Who watches a basketball game to see referees blowing their whistle every posession? I sure don't.

In the NBA monetary penalties are a great idea and having a panel review it ensures that it is objective as possible and mostly error-free.

FIBA is more complicated. I think in cases where it beyond a doubt that it is a flop a unsportsmanlike foul should be called. Maybe if all 3 referees agree only.

Because thats exactly what it is. It is 100% unsportsmanlike to be putting on a show for the officials.

I couldn't agree more with the idea that flopping is an embarassment to the sport. Some people call it tactical, I call it cheating.

Anyways, I've been a proponent for monetary penalties in the NBA or suspensions for repeated flopping. It can be analyzed post game by replay. However, like you've mentioned it is more difficult in these tournaments since the tournament is so short. Suspending a player would be too harsh so a technical foul would seem to be the only solution.

As for JGX's argument- I see what you're saying about the cure being worse than the disease but the answer lies in first defining what a flop is, training the refs to properly identify a flop, and then analyzing their performance after each tournament. That being said, I have less than zero confidence in FIBA reffing so were this to be implemented it could be ugly for a while. I'd be happy with them at least doing away with the extremely blatant flopping, anything close to legitimate I could live with for now.

Man, I would love to play against France... but I can't blame brazilian players by played for win.

Da ti ebam majkata that hurt from here bro

who said anything wrong about Durant?

Hahaha, interesting. Durant was definitely not the best player in the NBA this past year, but it seems like after 2010 he gets a lot more respect from European fans than LeBron. Is it because LeBron is the embodiment of the "NBA style" of playing, while Durant is more like a classic type of player... or something like that?

I'm personally split about which I'd rather have lead the national team, but luckily that's not been a problem this year :)

on one hand you have an extremely talented player who with it's abilities looks more normal to a european fan of basketball (or any other fan outside of US) and is dominating because of his skills and hard work and on the other hand you have a player who is eating steroids since he was three, who is extremely favoured by entire NBA organization and who on top of it all is full of himself..

it's not hard to pick between those two..

besides, Lebron can't be put into the same sentence with Kobe either..

Batum is soooo lucky Spain had to take care of business first, otherwise he would be badly injured now. or dead.

I don’t want to take anything from the guy –that was truly the cheapest shot possible, you really can´t get more coward than that- but as a RM fan what pisses me off the most is Turiaf nasty, unsportsmanlike and totally uncalled for tackle on Rudy Fernandez. That’s 250 pounds of ugly and fat crashing into a guy that just had back surgery. Extremely not cool.

To add insult to injury, Gelabale had already attacked Rudy in that ambush in ooh-la-la land a couple of weeks ago.

So It seems to me the French are now asking for a life lesson, since the free basketball lessons they got every time apparently weren’t dumbed down enough for them to learn anything. So like Spain once guided them to find their inner Loser -a cakewalk, being them French- Spain is now going to assist them in embracing their wussyness.

Lesson 1: Don’t act tough when you are not.

Lesson 2: Collect yourself when Marc Gasol AND Serge Ibaka are around.

Looking forward to it.

I feel why batum was so upset.Your team are playing hard and playing well winning 2 place in the group behind americans. And you should have good road for medals and suddenly assholes from spain begun loosing on purpose. And you get the worst opponent you could get in 1/4.You are palying hard as you can in 1/4 and are close to win and come short... they are humans and it goes under your skin, when floopers are acting all game. And you understand that you lost its realy depresing for france players no doubt.Something should been done againts that spnaish flooping, every time you touch them they are falling on the ground like girls and begun to roll over like dying dogs...Indeed very ugly team with such plays,i think i would do same think to navvaro, somebodys have to give them a lesson.Play fair and DONT ACT everytime its contact...Imagine if even suhc calm player like batum got out of nerves, what would happend with more violent player ? Against that Spanish flooping must be done something...

You certainly need to collect yourself ...

And why not in your face?
Who flopped yerterday? who played like girls yerterday? At least what i saw was 2 teams playing hard, untill it became violent. That action it's completely disgusting, and you are cheering for it and excussing the offender. I can't really understand it. I admit Spanish NT had nasty behavior some years ago, but that is over. Nobody flops, and yes, they claim for every whistle, but they are not the only one. Last year Rudy was strongly criticized (in Spain too) when he fouled Tony Parker, but I see you have 2 different messures depending on your simpathies.
Batum made a horrible match, last year made a horrible match, and so on.. that's his really problem. And I can understand their level of frustration when they are not able to win the worst Spain in 10 years, but, believe me, it's not because of flopping, you all are too heavy about this topic.

Seems that u're new in this forum. U have to learn than 90% of european guys in interbasket forum are antispanish team. We rape them every time we face them. That percentage arise to 99% in countries like greece and Lithuania that sincerely i don't remember the last time that they won us instead of get raped

I follow the forum, and i like to read posts cause there are some guys thats shows good knowledge, and I realised long time ago how hate we are. Just because we have had a brilliant period, and Greece, Lithuania, France and maybe Serbia were our favourite victims. Don't worry about, that period is about to finish. What really bothers me is when they keep on repeating: flop, act, cheat.. Come on, I don't know if they tanked, but if they did, they just took advantage of the rules. That are equal for all, and that other teams did in the past. They have not invented anything. It is very sad that people write to spot the other team wins instead of talking about basketball, I insist, here are people who do very well

Can you answer one quaestion is it fair, when super strong and tallented spain team is cheating and loosing on purpose because they are affraid of americans? or you will defend and lie that spain wanted to win against brasil? last 6 minutes of that was disgusting and joke for game of basketball 12-31 in 4 querter after obviuosly outplaying brasil in 3 querters...How somebody from neutral side can support such dirty team? and gasol and other lieing in press than they didnt lose on purpose. When even blind could see spain was giving away the game...Tell me other team from this olimpic tournament that are flooping more than this spanish team? That rudys 5minutes sitting on ground after simple contact was just i dont know how to even express myself, but just horrible acting display.God damm his big men 2metres 100kg and actng like he is 1,50m 40kg girl...Yes there were strong contact, but real men would have stood up and walked after 20seconds,and what drama did he did? yesterday he was trying to show that he is dying ,but tommorow he gonna run and jump like nothing happens as always...just ugly flooping team...

How can you not admit your NT strategy is based on floping? I mean even in friendly games for ex against USA you were flopping so much ( I almost died of laughter a few times). It destroys basketball. I dont know any other team in europe that plays like that, I guess your basketball players watch too much soccer since its nr 1 in Spain.

And it was obvious that Spain was tanking the game against Brazil, deny it all you want. Non of that should work at semis though against Russia, so its kinda a waste.

I mean its not like Spain without all the floping would have won less titles, it has been the strongest team in Europe for like 7-8 years. But the floping is real and if you werent such a fanboy of your NT you would see that and agree.

Come on, I don't know if they tanked, but if they did, they just took advantage of the rules.
clap. clap. clap.
this says a lot about how people look on sport and fairplay in Spain..

Batum lost his mind, what he did is unexcusable, fortunately Navarro wasn't hurt.
Spain won because they were better, flopping or no flopping.
Some people really need to chill out.
