I applaud Nicholas Batum for bringing justice to international basketball

\o/

Great move by Batum (Y) I wish Rudy would have taken a hit in his ugly face as well.

Batum is not a violent player, he just made a mistake, but a mistake that shouldn't be applauded at all.

Damn! Batum living my dream! :o

But really, even with the emotions running high that is too violent for a basketball court.

A question for our European friends- if Spain and the USA play each other in the final who will you root for?

It would be USA for me. And this has nothing to do whether Spain tanked the game with Brazil or not, USA is the second team I am rooting for in this tournament

I think flopping should be a technical foul (or unsporstmanlike foul in FIBA)

Disagree that flopping should be a technical foul, the refs have enough to do without worrying about whether they should call a foul on non-fouls. Do you really want to add another judgment call to the game?

While it wouldn't work for the Olympics, I believe the NBA is discussing assessing monetary penalties for blatant flopping after games. Don't know if it will ever get past the discussion stage though.

Don't like the greatest player in the world?
Great skills, poor attitude = "Don't like" in my book :)

That principle has already been applied to football. Yellow card if you flop. And they don't even have the possibility to review plays. In doubt, review the play, simple.
Flops can determine wins/losses.

IMO that's a better idea than assessing a technical foul.

And yet players dive all the time without picking up a card, and I have certainly seen players carded for diving when they were in fact fouled. It's enforced totally randomly, just like it would be in basketball. Plus what a lot of what annoys people in soccer and in basketball is really "embellishment", where a player actually does suffer a minor contact, or even a real foul, but makes it look worse than it actually was. Do you also want the refs judging whether a contact was hard enough to knock someone over, or if a foul was hard enough for someone to roll around on the ground a bit?

Questioning that you allow yourself to question every single decision in a game.
Man, the question remains: do you want flopping to keep happening with influence in the game? I don't.
