Might also be a consequence of the recent rule changes. the 3pt line is farther away and the rectangulare zone shape. this favors more athletic teams.

That was exactly what i was thinking after watching Nigeria and the Dominican Rep win their games. Its a small sample but something to keep an eye on going forward.

Well our personal fouls killed us today and DR played a very good second half. 20ps we had them and lost just like greece i cant beleive it thats a very hard way to lose........but its our fault

There is to much hype on the macedonian team because of the last euro.

Rep. Dominicana could beat them everyday even with the old rules.

And from what has been said by the Euroleague officials, Euroleague will introduce some more NBA-like rules into the league like tolerance in traveling rules at the first-step and so on. What is allowed in the Euroleague will also become FIBA rule at some point.

I don't have it in front of me but the 2nd chance points were extremely lopsided. I would have liked to see you in the Olympics, bummer

Since the teams ranked 6th and 4th in eurobasket 2011 have left the tournament already it would be logical if the team ranked 5th will also kiss ass and say bye bye, while the russians may have a chance since they ranked 3rd.

That would be bad for the sport. What they need to do is clamp down on travelling not vice-versa!

Does anyone ever not complain about the referees? Your act is getting old

did you even watched the game we literally destroyed them in the first half a mix of stupid couching and WRONG ref decision brought them back into the game and we lost.

Thats all folks. The best 1st quarter for Macedonia, good defence and patient attack.

Then a little support from referees to Dominicana to back in the game, and than totally different story from Macedonia ... no defence in the recket, unpatient and fast attacks, many shoots for 3 pts ...

I don't know why Lazovski keep K. Nikolovski our second best Center, all time at the bench.

Congrats to Dominicana!

Congrats to DR...
I would love to see Horford and Coach Cal at the Olympics!

Of course I warched.

You lost to Angola three days ago. Angola!

And in the last euro you started the tournament losing to a so so team. And after these defeats, It seems that what happened after that game was luck. Even the close win over Finland.

Without one single player, whom is american born and raised, Macedonia wouldnt have even qualified for this tournament.

No. Those rules changes actually favor the European teams more. The amount of spacing on the floor is a lot less than it was with the old rules.

No, because actually Euroleague has been doing it their own way. In 2008 FIBA actually changed the travel rules, but Euroleague kept them as they were.

So Euroleague is just now changing to the FIBA rule on traveling.

If Team USA loses a game, there will be a thread with 100 pages at least long of Americans calling for the heads of the refs and FIBA officials.

The ironic thing of course will be that the USA would have been favored by the refs in the game by at least 70-30, if not more.

I've supported Macedonians mostly because I hugely liked what they were showing on the last Eurobasket. No doubt that starting five of Macedonian team has more quality than Dominican one but Macedonian roster is too limited: aside from Bo, Vlado, Pero, Vojdan and to some extent Gecevski there are no classy players in the team. Still it was their own players and coach stupidity and fault to lose a game in that way with shaky defense and no control of the game tempo after such a brilliant first half. Macedonia is a better overall team than their opponents but Dominicana chosen to fight and succeded in it playing with great physical strength and ourebounding Macedonia as if they are some midgets. Well, it's a sad result for me but I can't say that Dominicana completely didn't deserved that. Though referees were clearly on the Latin team side which is an unpleasnat thing. And while Horford sucked really hard in the first half Garcia finally stepped up and was great today hitting threes and mid jump-shots with almost perfect accuracy. Still a mediocre player but today he was MVP of the game.
By the way, what do you think about the fact of having two European teams already out: is it a downfall of European basketball or just a accidental coincidence?

There's a lot of chance involved in one game, obviously. But I would argue, at least from just watching most of the two games, that it appears those teams- Nigeria and D.R.- improved, not so much that Greece and Macedonia or European basketball as a whole has gotten worse.

Doesn't mean anything. Nigeria was pretty good last time they fielded a full team as well. Macedonia was only there because they recruited an American star, hard to take them as representative of "European basketball". Similarly, Nigeria and DR are loaded with guys born and/or raised in the US, it's a stretch to consider them representative of "rest of the world" basketball.
