Momentum is on Spain's side. It'll be a good match to watch between this 2 teams..

[1/4 Final] Spain vs France

[1/4 Final] Spain vs France

The European powerhouse rivalry continues in the Olympic quarterfinal.

2013 EC - France with Tony Parker won over Spain w/o Pau Gasol
2014 WC - France w/o Parker won on the road over Spain with both Gasol brothers.
2015 EC - Spain won France with Pau going BEAST MODE for 40 points.
2016 OG - ???

2016 OG - ???

2012 OG - Spain eliminates France in QF with Batum punching Navarro.
2011 EC - Spain crushes previously unbeaten France in the last game of the second group stage with Parker and Noah sitting out, then beats them again in the final.
2010 WC - France (no Parker) beats Spain (no Pau) on the opening day of the tournament in the game that introduced Liam Canny to the world.
2009 EC - Spain beats France by 20 in the quarterfinals after France completed the group stages unbeaten

Seriously, FIBA rule G.2.9.6.II says these teams have to meet in every major tournament. Look it up.

I wonder whose balls will Batum punch or who will punch Batum in the balls this time.

Spain have awoken lol which means bad news for this French team, until France plays with some heart they are no chance.

This could be a great matchup. Spain knows how I play and more importantly how to win, but France when they're at their best can play with anyone.

If France play hard and slow the game... who knows!

Spain vs France 2011-2016 is the best european rivalary i have ever seen in 5 years period.

They obviuosly was top 2 guns in europe in last 5 years.

2011 Eurobasket final Spain was alot better and won convincigly.
2012 1/4 Olympic games,Spain chooses oponenets ,but angry France leaded like 37minutes until Parker got tired and Spain won close game.
2013 Eurobasket semifinal Parker heroics and finaly France beats Spain after overtime and wins eurobasket2013.
2014 World cup 1/4 in Madrid and France wins a shocker and sends Spain home without a medal at home.
2015 Eurobasket semifinal France leading like all game, but Gasols heroics puts Spain over the France after one more overtime in french teritory.

2016 Olympic games 1/4 once again Spain vs France...Its look like Spain is more ready, but still in this matchup everything can happen.Best 1/4 matchup by far.If anybody can stop Spain in playoofs (except Usa) its France and Parker.

This Gasols friends vs Parkers friends rivalry will go down to europes basketball history books. And most likely its final time they will face each other and it will be in main stage Olympic games.MUST SEE!

Spain is peaking, but they'll be facing a well rested Tony Parker. Arguably the best rivalry in Basketball right now. I think it will be close either way.

We can also put here the 2010 world cup game, and 2009 QF game how JGX told. A 7 consecutively year rivalry, I am a bit tired of that games, although last year semifinal is in my top 3 of basketball games.

what do you guys think? which one of these teams has more chances of possibly beating US in the semi's?

I would lean towards France because of defensive reasons. France has more big bodies, good lengthy 3s like Batum, Gelabale to guard those multipositional players of USA. De Colo is pretty good choice to guard Thompson.

Against Spain, at least USA can hide Kyrie on Rubio. Rubio does a lot of things well, but he seldom looks for his shot, even against a weak defender.

But the way USA has been playing defense, they can't afford to look past Argentina.

Agreed. I said before but imo only France and Brazil have the size and athleticism to beat the US, and well we all know where Brazil is.

We all know what France's game plan is going to be. All the pressure will be on the outside shooters to open up France defence and allow Gasol and Mirotic to operate inside. If they succeed, this game can be a blowup.

But, instead of those outside shots falling down, Spain could revert back to the awful form they showed in their first three games. Then, the game will be really hard for them. Like, 2014 hard. If the match ends up being decided by hustle and heart, my money is on the French side. I could be wrong, but I cannot see anyone on this squad being capable of hitting the winning shot in the last minute of a tight game. Not even Gasol. He was huge in 2015, but no one should expect him to have that kind of games every time he's called upon. Usually, that role of closer could fall on Navarro or even Calderon. But age have caught up on them and they are providing only short bursts of magic between long minutes of nada. Rudy is not a closer and he'll have his hands full trying to contain Batum, a much better player at this stage. The Sergios are hit-or-miss, and they've been missing a lot more than hitting lately. And I wouldn't trust Ricky with my laundry list in the final minutes of a close game, much less with the ball. On the other hand, France has Parker and De Colo. And even Heurtel, who isn't on the same level, but is fearless and fully capable of turning a game around.

Llull on his Real Madrid version (and playing as PG) is one of the clutchest player of Europe. Heurtel is a machine of losing balls.
