I don't think Qatar will be naturalizing anymore players soon...unless their American big man, who hasn't shown his face yet decides not to come. Then they still have an open spot. I think more teams in Asia will begin to naturalize, it's almost destined to happen the way things are looking.

no man thats wat u want to happen so that everyone will stop talking about qatar.......all the teams dont need to naturalize except maybe 1 player cuz they are already good teams unlike qatar who has nothing to start with from the beginning , the teams who will naturalize 12 players might be teams like pakistan and afghanistan but they dont really have the money for this and the saudis would never give their passports to a bunch of africans + they already have a not bad team , atleast the 12 members of the team are 100% saudi.....so i dont see this happening to any other team......theres no point in naturalizing winning illegaly is even worse than losing , every game qatar plays im against them.......

Btw, what happen to ex-NBA player Jabari Smith who according to another thread qatar was planning to naturalize?

they should participate with the teams they can make and build their way up during the years WITH QATARIS.....Lebanon dont naturalize players and change their names wen they go to WBC even though their population is 4 million and other european countries is over 100 million.....so the population is not really an issue here....Lebanon play good games against China even though we are 4M and they are a 1.4B........

How about Joe Vogel and how about Tongan Paul Afeaki Khoury ?

Paul Khoury missed the World Championship with Lebanon

by Gauthier Gerard - Aug 21, 2006

Tonga is light-years away from participating to the FIBA World Championship but one of its child could have been playing in Japan. Unfortunatly the tongan-born lebanese player Paul Khoury (207-C-68) will not be there due to visa problems.

Paul Afeaki Khoury (207-C-68) was born in Tonga in April 1968 from american parents, he went to the USA and graduated from Utah University in 1992. He played his first pro season in Turkey before heading to Japan for 5 years. In 2001 he signed a contract with the lebanese team Al Ryadi and three years later he joined Sagesse, the best team in the country. His lebanese years were the best of his career and he was granted by a lebanese passport by the governement.
Khoury has a big body, he's always using his 128kg-frame to muscle his way to the hoop. He's not a go-to-guy but an effective team low post offensive and defensive. He's too slow to compete against the best but he's a great players at the lebanese standarts.
With the Lebanon National Team, Paul Khoury played the 2002 World Championship in Indianapolis. The team didn't manage to win a single game and got the last rank after a 70-100 loss to Algeria in the classification game despite a 16pts 9rbs effort from Khoury. During the tournament, he averaged 6.4pts 56.5%FG 6.0rbs in 19min per game including a 7pts 10rbs game against Turkey and some great players like Mehmet Okur, Hedo Turkoglu and Mirsad Turkcan. Last year, Lebanon secured the silver medal in the Asian Championship with a loss in the final game against Yao Ming's China and Paul was one of the best post player in the tournament.
He should have been an important part of the Lebanon side in the 2006 World Championship in Japan but fate changed his plans. Because of the war in Lebanon, the national team's preparation became more complicated. Because of the chaos, the team wasn't able to bring its manager, conditioning coach and Paul, one of its best players.
"We had practiced five days when the war started," said NT coach Paul Coughter "We saw a window of opportunity to get out and took the last vehicle out of Lebanon and drove 12 hours to Jordan. We practiced five days in Amman, went to Turkey, Slovenia, and the Philippines before arriving here."
Lebanon is playing in the group A with olympic champion Argentina, double-world champion Serbia, France, Venezuela and Nigeria. The team will try to qualify for the second round. Unfortunatly, the 38-year old center Khoury will have to watch it on television.

ya man it looks like ur new to basketball........every country is allowed 1 naturalized player .......vogel=1 naturalized player its a simple equation ...........about paul khoury hes half lebanese half tongan so hes allowed to play + he didnt even play at the WBC last year so i dont get your point.........

is their anything that you would like to share futher? :D any bloodbath with the Lebanese? :D

Hehe I am just messing with Karim...I could care less. I would rather see the teams in Asia do well in the world stage, as a whole group. That is what is important. Being American, I am glad the world caught up. Now hopefully we can catch up with the rest in Soccer :p

ya man thats my point we need ASIAN teams in the WBC and the olympics and see how they do against the strong european and south american teams , not more african teams(Qatar) besides Angola,Senegal and Nigeria.....hopefully Kazakhaztan win Qatar again in the first round and India can pull off a miracle and beat them too....

Qatar will advance their group in Tokushima..it's an easy bracket..with an all-African Team using an Asian flag against Asian teams.. :D

i think they will come in 2nd cuz kazakhaztan beat them the last 2 games and there would be a good chance they dont make it past the 1st round if the draw was fair , like if Jordan or Iran was in their group instead of India.............

ya they suck they keep on shooting threes and missing and getting offensive rebounds and in the end they score thats how they beat asian teams but thats also why they lose at the WBC cuz they cant get any offensive rebounds against WBC teams and their not gonna score from the first attempt .......they are also undersized when it comes to the center and power forward position on the WBC stage...........

repost :) is this Greece vs. Qatar? I thought it was Greece vs. an African team :D

yes they have trouble with full court pressure...thats how greece were able to turn a 15 point defecit to a 20 point win and when the other teams saw how greece did it they used this strategy against qatar and won by big margins...Australia won by 47........Qatar has a trouble in dribbling the ball and avergage 36 turnovers i think in the WBC which means they have a turnover every 2 positions :) the problem is that they have no true PG , this guy Dauod Musa plays as PG but has serious problems in his dribble which showed on this video against greece and all throughout the WBC and which is why qatar is now trying to find a PG to naturalize i read it in asia basket.............i wish more teams in asia will use the full court pressure strategy to beat qatar and even though asians are smaller than the WBC teams , if the WBC teams could force qatar to 36 turnovers maybe the asian teams can force thwm to 25 , it should be good enough to win :p ......seeing that they dont naturalize a good PG from now until a month ofcourse......

yup qatar beat all the teams in asia 2005 except china and lebanon cuz they were the only teams who r bigger under the basket than qatar...but this year its gonna be different as u saw the kazakhs are a young and good team with center anton ponomorov whos 209 and only 19......i think Iran can also matchup good against qatar and beat them but against the shorter teams i think qatar can easily get offensive rebounds and win the game.......

Yeah Qatar has problems dribbling and many other things. Saad Abdulrahman is as close as they come to a real PG, but even he I would consider a SG instead. They also lose if they cannot shoot good, obviously. Lots to work on for them. I am curious how they will do if they advance out of their group.

Not really, Qatar nearly lost to Chinese Taipei in the Doha Asiad. CT has small players and plays similarly like the Philippines but they were just unlucky in the final seconds of the game. I don't think Qatar will be that lucky when they face CT once again also wid Philippines.

Qatar nearly lost to the Philippines, who was backed by predominantly amatuer/collegiate players, a year ago. Another thing, CT lost to the Philippines during the Busan Asian Games 83-69. They had a similar lineup back then.

For Lebanon/Iran, I don't think Qatar will be that lucky to beat them because they will have difficulty in trapping Lebanon/Iran 's PGs. Fadi El-Khatib completely dominated Qatar's PG in the last Asian Championships.
