Sir Jams,

according to Grandpa Dean the so-called PBA and SBP advisor that the team will be having a 6 days practice bec. CTC will gave them at least 3 days of rest to recover.

assuming the very last play date of the season ended on July 27.

it is what it is...we are just the ordinary fan and we cannot argue with the Grandpas.

so I think the best move forward is to make those B. League and KBL ballers is to attend practices with the rest of the Barangay during their own off-season.

most probably within the month of May(?) for the B.League and April(?) for the KBL

oh well...it is what it is.

Appreciate everyone's feedback. Thanks sir. Just doing my best to improve Gilas. I'm m so sad when they are beaten by other countries specially those who they beat before. It's a game by the way.everything will happen during a game.

Wow 6 days of preparation!! It's like they're preparing for an all-star game.

This is the huge drawback if our national team is composed of PBA players becoz this league runs for an eternity of basketball every season. Halos wala na talagang off season. That's why I really like it that more & more of our players play in Japan, Korea & I hope time will come that majority of our Gilas players are playing overseas, & not in the PBA. Kasi itong mga professional leagues abroad are synchronize with the FIBA calendar. Hence, they are available for national team training about 6 to 8 weeks before a FIBA tournament is held.

The same could not be said about the PBA. Ang layo.

They should consider Ron Harper, Jr. He is not a slouch in the G-League. In fact, the following are his statline throughout his G-League stint:
These are his advance stats:

wAAACH5BAEKAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAICRAEAOw==

I think that his contract will be significantly lower than those of Jordan Clarkson. Still, a G-League caliber.

His stats in the G-league is very impressive.

Ron Jr. may not be in the caliber of a Jordan Clarkson but in Asia-Oceania level basketball, he would be good enough. Justin Brownlee isn't in the caliber of Clarkson yet we all know how serviceable JB is for Gilas. From what I read in the scouting report about Ron Jr., he is described as a decent defender with an incredible wingspan which more than compensate for his 6-foot-4 height. And of course, he's still young & still developing. Another good aspect that's noticeable with Ron Jr. based on the stats that ja.he presented is his decent 3-pt. shooting. Imagine he is making at least 3 three-pointers in every game on a pretty decent 3-pt FG shooting %.

At only 24 yrs old, he can be serviceable for Gilas in 8 to 10 years span.

What I don't get is people from the SBP or PBA seems to overlook him. He can play as a local in the PBA, even in MPBL. His contract may hurt the pocket of many teams but that is significantly lower than those of Jordan Clarkson. The thing is he plays like an import, maybe even better than Justin Brownlee and Marcus Douthit.

What I like best about him is he's 24. Perfectly aligned with Kai, AJ, Dwight, etc. That's about 6 more years of increasing quality and about 12 more playing years.

He can also be an elite 3-pt shooter in the Asia level which is a team need and would be a good complement if QMB, Mike, Ange, etc become eligible (if they don't we need someone bigger).

If we go with Ron Jr., we will need a backup NP in instances he's not released by the Pistons or any other NBA team. Hopefully the holes left unfilled by the backup can be filled by our locals.

I also think whenever there's a window or tournament in the NBA offseason, we should invite him over for Gilas training so he can get acclimated to the team.

There’s a possibility RHJr might leave the G-League and play outside America. The way I see it, players in GL who can’t crack their parent NBA team’s rotation leave. If he chooses a league that is FIBA window friendly, it’s good for us.

That might be big for his Gilas availability.

Here's my edited Gilas needs list, based on my personal observation. I initially made this in the context of JB retiring, but might as well for now. You can add more if you want.

Shot creation Go-to guy
Interior defender in case AJ and Kai are not in the lineup
Maybe another initiator or some playmaking
Shooting
Wing who can at least stop dribble peneration and rotate, better if he can defend man-to-man

How many of these needs can be filled by current eligibles, and how many can only be filled by an NP?

In considering our next NP, I think we should target as many of the needs that can only be filled by an NP as possible. Develop the locals we do have, or get other locals to fill the needs that can be filled by locals.

The question is when is JB retiring? It becomes an issue of being age-appropriate if he retires now vs after 2027.

If he retires now, I like George King. 5 years younger, positionless, reliable enough on defense, longer range than JB, experienced with FIBA rules and style of play. Problem is the SBP has to pull senator strings once again to fast track the naturalization. Also consider that Kouame might be considered a local soon so the paint isn't really a problem as long as Kai and Edu are there.

Otherwise, find someone who's in their early to mid 20's in the G-League with a similar profile as JB: a starter from a strong D1 conference capable of being a 3-level-scorer if he becomes a PBA import.

some of the forumers here like the idea of Ron Harper Jr. he doesnt need to be naturalized even if Fiba will treat him as such but he ticks all your boxes except the bit about Fiba experience.

Yes bro, you're spot on. No need for naturalization proceedings where Philippine basketball would be at the mercy of our lawmakers. This means that if only SBP, SMC & coach Tim would want it, & if Ron Jr. is available & he's willing, then he can play as Gilas' naturalized player anytime. I think Ron Jr. has expressed willingness to play for Gilas sometime ago.

Speaking of availability, if I'm not mistaken G-league season starts in November & ends in April. This simply means that during the FIBA & international basketball season (a period when FIBA & international tournaments are held), which is from July to early September, Ron Harper, Jr. would be available for Gilas. The only question would be Ron Jr.'s availability during the window qualifiers of World Cup & Asia Cup becoz I don't think G-league takes a brief break during the window qualifiers of FIBA tournaments.

Sir Jams,

I think this is also one of the many reasons why SBP are lukewarm(?) on RHJ because availability would certainly an issue during window games.

because NBA G-League doesn't adhere to the schedule of FIBA compared to B.League and KBL.

I think we could only tap him during the month of May up to early September because certainly September to October are start of the training camp or much earlier.

depending on the league or club decision.

that's really a challenge.

thats why, a lot of forumers are in favor of a pool of NP.. like right now, if JB is not available, Ange should be the next man up. if we tap RHJ, he'll most likely just play during NBA off season. During any qualifiers, somebody else has to be available. and this backup\s should be able to fill in if RHJ is not available. right now, JB and Ange plays different positions so its still a problem if one is unavailable and we need someone to fill that role up. Ange can swap with Kai if he is injured, but noone is a direct replacement to JB. CTC has to spread the offense to compensate if JB becomes unavailable. Tamayo and KQ's offense seem to be getting momentum. I hope they get enough touches next time they rep the flag.

too bad for Ron Jr. if he knew B league would be that big, he wouldve handled the passport issue with urgency..

If I remember BLeague open Asian Import in 2020, with Thirdy being the first to do it. Ron Jr. was already 20 years old that time.

No one would have thought of BLeague doing that when Ron Jr. was 15 years old (2015). As Japan Basketball that time was a mess, they just got back from their suspension of having 2 professional leagues, that 2 league merged into what we all know a BLeague.

That being said, no one— even our own local players would have thought of playing in BLeague back then, everybody wants to play in the PBA until Thirdy paved the way of being able to play in Japan.
