Players that we can have naturalized

the problem with getting nba players as naturalized player is we can only use them in summer tournaments , but when it comes to qualifiers we can't if we will be able to qualify for Olympics this is a good suggestion , but i hope we can naturalize another player that we can use for qualifiers, well we have ange kouame and brownlee but brownlee is already on his mid 30's while kouame can't carry the offense

whatever happened to the cam oliver rumors? i liked him as a naturalized prospect, his skillset complements bigs like kai, edu, japeth. and he's a high-scoring import that pba coaches desire

Yup you had a point there and the purpose here is to make sure we could still add another length in our roster if ever we came to the moment we may somehow qualify for any high profile summer tournaments like the Olympics, World Cup or even the FIBA Asia Cup. The possibility that we may not be able to tap most of the time our expected guys like Kai and AJ for other commitments or injuries(wag naman po sana) having a lot of options in the 4 and 5 position may be the best idea so far considering the likes of AK34 may somehow classified as a local one of these days if only the SBP has the right mindset to lobby for that. Yes I am also fully aware about the financial aspect of naturalizing an NBA (mid) level guy but that’s how the reality of aspiring to assemble a high level team, we really need to invest in many ways possible.

It would also make sense to include Senior level Gilas Fil foreign prospects who have yet to process passport (even if over 16 ), e.g. Harper Jr. cause these guys are realistically doable to process easily unlike having to go through naturalization via congress. And with a passport in hand they are automatically part of our NP pool.

it is so frustrating seeing the SBP lack the wits and common sense to immediately process people like Harper, Tolentino, Phillips, Balungay for pooling purposes and eventual exemption. Sometimes can't help wishing that those who went to Paris met John Wick there. haha

"Atlanta Hawks F/C Onyeka Okongwu has agreed on a four-year, $62 million contract extension."

has there been any traction on his naturalization or is this gonna be another ryan kelly?

Hmmm.. it seems that the Lao’s are indeed dead serious(?) on their sports endeavor. What if MVP and RSA decided to ask the Lao’s to join a mission not only on Philippine basketball but also on Philippine sports in general.
That would be a dandy.

"MVP and RSA are already doing a good job there. Alfrancis [Chua] is a good manager," said the normally elusive Lao. "[But] if they need [me], I will also help. For the country anyway, lahat naman tayo gusto mapasaya lang ang mamayang Pilipino."
"Basta para sa bansa natin, tutulong kami, financially and spiritually,” added Lao.
“We’re doing this to help uplift the level of basketball in our country. That’s one of the lasting legacies we want to leave behind. So, if offers for us to help the national team in general, super okay kami dyan,” the elder Lao said.
“Pwede rin namin tulungan ang Gilas na makuha si Howard para sa mga Asian Games, SEA Games at iba pang non-Fiba tournaments. Hindi lang kay Howard ha, pati sa iba pa naming contacts.
"Basta para sa bansa natin, tutulong kami, financially and spiritually,” added Lao.

I really do hope the Lao’s may be given a chance to be part of the program moving forward.

Imagine if they are allow to handle our Youth program and maximize the recruitment both local and international thru it’s diaspora all over. It’s really possible that we unearth talents in the same breath as Jalen Green, JC, Ron Harper Jr., among others and make them FIBA eligible moving forward.

When we say “Money Talks” the impression are mostly related to evil deeds/illegal transactions, that’s the common thing on that, but if we flip the coin on the otherside and make the narrative unto the good side, in a more productive thing somehow “Money Talks” in an essence can makes a big difference depending on how a particular person or group of person do their transactions. Obviously I’m on a good side of it.

When the older Lao statements that “Hindi lang kay Howard ha, pati sa iba pa naming contacts”. It seems that they had some bigtime(?) scouts in their network as well.

Who knows maybe aside from unearthing some gems amongst those overseas Filipinos, they could somehow lure or convince some big fish who hasn’t included in the final 12 of Team USA U16 or U18 but are willing to shift allegiance at a young age in the same breath as Atlanta’s 23 yr. old Onyeka Okongwu who recently released(?) a statement that he is willing to be naturalized because of his strong Filipino connections even during his childhood days in the LA area. Thanks to Edge Basketball and RC Rebels both programs handled(?) by some Filipinos who teaches and honed the dude during his formative years.(I stand to be corrected on this).

Another interesting area like Canada wherein a very large diaspora and Africa as well..Collins Akowe of Nuns, Favour Onoh of UP and AK34 are waiving both hands.

I repeat “Money Talks” in a good and productive way.

Apparently SMB's Benny Boatwright is being considered for future naturalization.

If he will be JB's replacement, we need a good defensive lineup around him. Not the defender that Ange or even JB is.

We will need AJ, an exempted Mike Phillips, Oftana, Dwight, Newsome, Navarro, and maybe Balti to cover for him on defense. We can't have him next to June Mar or Kai for extended stretches.

By the way, how did you find this thread? I couldn't find it last night.

After qualifiers, Brownlee should play overseas for continuous conditioning... With Ginebra can't use him for All Pinoy conference, Maybe play for some leagues in Japan, Korea or Indonesia.. He needs to get back on shape in time for OQT...

pass on williams, hes basically a rebounder defender on the post, very limited and a bad free throw shooter, Boatwright im not convinced well rounded perimeter player sure but we need a good well rounded big man

Sir Joe,

spot on.

but the good thing is the attitude and based on CJJ the guy is very much coachable and he'll do whatever instructions he has given compared to other imports he has handled.

his only on his mid-20's and lot's of upside...same breath with Tyler Bey.

I hope they didn't change.

we badly needed imports with good attitude.

Here's a comment on Bennie Boatwright's struggles since Game 3: https://x.com/DwigtSchruute/status/1757755407341420868?s=20

The observations were:

"- Soft
- Poor rebounder
- Doesnt excel in contact
- One way player"

The "soft," "poor rebounder," and "one-way player" characterizations are really concerning, especially the "one-way player" part. If he's our NP, we can only pair him with AJ without giving up points on defense. AJ's health is a concern. June Mar, Carl, and Kai haven't really shown that they can anchor a defense, so pairing Boatwright with them will be a defensive disaster.

We need a better defender as JB's replacement as full-time NP.

Rondae Hollis Jefferson could be that guy.. An all around guy, 2 way player and have a winning mentality like Brownlee.. But SBP didn’t offer RHJ until Jordan offers him and later accepted… SBP should offer him at the first place.. Who cares if we prioritize Brownlee first.. better to have back up NP in case of emergency… Japan has multiple naturalized players in their program, Indonesia has 3 NP to be chosen (Bolden, Prosper and Beane), atleast if one guy is not available, they already have their back up NP to be pick… And also RHJ is just 28 years old, perfect replacement for Brownlee… RHJ is very serviceable for 8-10 years max…

SBP really didn’t like ange..

Maybe it's the coach. Ange is Tab's guy. He values defense and rebounding. Chot and Cone probably are looking for Brownlees/ do it all forward. I would have prefer Ange or an upgraded version of Ange. To be fair I also prefer to have another PG in the team like Bolick so what do I know.

SBP really doesn't like Ange, best thing to do is release the guy from his citizenship and let anothe SEA Game country have him.
