why not each pba team should sponsor the naturalization for the best african college imports that they can play as a local player in the PBA and this pool of naturalized players can be used in FIBA tournaments.

or SBP can naturalize 2 or 3 of the best African college imports to be included in the pool.

naturalizing kids before the age of 16 would make them avail the local slots so getting two or three playing for the team wouldn't be a problem. The problem concerning this idea would be the technicalities around it.

Also there would be concern among those "puritan" basketball fans questioning the nationality of the players.

a seven footer that can shoot the threes. He may not be a Joshua Smith but the guy can score anywhere and could run the floor well.I hope Chot could take a look at this player.

I think instead of investing for those African Naturalized bigs, they should use the money to develop and train our local young bigmen. Create a Bigman Academy and choose the players that have the height and and potential. Malay natin di na natin kakailanganin ng naturalized player in the future. That would be awesome.

Just like what UC did to June Mar Fajardo. Hoping also that Jeremiah Pangalangan be given playing time to develop, but we all know that UAAP teams are always looking for "WIN".

Same thoughts here. There seems to be a steady supply of big men (kids, actually) in recent years--a "luxury" we didn't have since time immemorial. I think it's about time we find willing participants to undergo rigorous training and create our homegrown versions of Hepa and Edu. By that i mean that our big men prospects be honed as prototypical all around bigs that can play on all areas of the basketball court.

Training African-born bigs and developing our local talents need not be mutually exclusive. After all, Filipino kids taller than 6'7" and willing to put in the hard work to become an excellent basketball player are still very rare. We should take advantage of the fact that more and more Africans are moving to the Philippines. If they move here and adopt Pinoy citizenship and culture through the school system, we will eventually have a generation of Afrinoy bigs. It may sound like the Qatar program but the big difference is that we're not using money as a selling point.
The current system of big man training in our country is quite enough in my opinion. It's just a matter of lack of supply and a lack of quality.

I'm not into those Afrinoys. Our dream for the future should be all the players has filipino blood. Ngayon di pa natin kaya pero in the future sana ganun na. I'm not against the foreign students. I'm against recruiting and "importing" foreign players to WIN. A foreign student is different from an "Import". UAAP/NCAA is not the PBA. We all know that there's a money invlove. That's why I'm very proud with FEU. Their foreign players Noundoo, Kave, Sentcheu, Hargrove and Orizu were not "recruited". They were walk-ins. Sentcheu was referred by his cousin Noundo while Hargrove was referred by an FEU alumni na naging teammate niya sa inter-baranggay. Hargrove came here, because of his Filipina gf.

He said "we will eventually have a generation of Afrinoy bigs" because he meant that if the current generation of African players will settle here and start their respective families (presumably with our very own beautiful Filipinas), then their offsprings will be the future generation of Afrinoys. And if that's the case, they would have Filipino blood. Surely, you wouldn't have anything against that, right?

He didn't said that the Africans will settle here and have families. What he said is "if they move here and adapt Filipino citizenship and culture through school system.

"If they move here and adopt Pinoy citizenship and culture through the school system, we will eventually have a generation of Afrinoy bigs." implies that they will start their own families here and eventually intermarry, in the same way that American soldiers in Clark and Subic did.

Yes, our ultimate dream is an all-homegrown national team; but in the short-term and medium-term we will need naturalized players. And we must not forget that we Filipinos are a mixture of Malay, Spanish, and Chinese (even Indian) heritage.

I have confidence in my reading comprehension :)

yes either the kid gets naturalized alone or maybe naturalize their parents for them to become a citizen and of course they would have to settle here if the naturalization process would take place.Just like the way of Serge Ibaka. The key is to get 13 or 14 year olds who have the height, skills and potential. However, this is a long shot, we need political will for this to happen.

I'm really intrigued with both Skal Labissiere and Willey Cauley-Stein. They both have very high potential as rim-protector + stretch-5 and both can create from outside as well. Their stock is low right now in the US due to their age and nba team affiliation. Is there any possibility that we can naturalize either of these 2? I'm aware WCS has prior experience in US under-18, but it seems like Skal has no prior international experience for his home country of Haiti.

With the start of nba summer league, I think it is the right time and the right place to send a scout to look for a possible naturalized player candidates.

IMO the chances would be slim because first they would be tied up to their NBA teams (that's the Sacramento Kings if they don't get traded). I don't know if Haiti has been competing in any international tournaments, but I'm sure they will be considering Skal to their national team lineup.
