Play As One - Charlotte Bobcats Thread

I saw the NBA team preview in NBA TV awhile ago. They featured the head coach, Mike Dunlap, who is charged to mentor the Bobcats minus the great expectations. Dunlap unveiled last June his analytics and shot selection graphics map, completed with cell-shaded colors to determine rates of conversion for each player. Green was for "comfort zone" on which players converted most. While red was for "discomfort zone", a place where the players' shots as individuals are not playing.

What is intriguing is that Dunlap is enforcing those shot zones into the players' mentality and actually encourages them to look for that spot and avoid those spots that are marred with futility. This I think creates better awareness for the players in not forcing too many shots that are extremely low-percentage. This also encourages players to be more patient and look for their comfort zones, thus having a shot that is naturally boosted by a player's comfort range.

The best part is that Kemba Walker responded and admitted that it was an eye opener and he has not seen anything like it. Even Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was surprised that Dunlap had prepared his college home-work based on his shot selection zones. Also, Dunlap will keep this analytics and shot display graphic chart into the season.

Head coach Mike Dunlap has announced the starters for the Bobcats' opening night against the Indiana Pacers.

Brendan Haywood
Byron Mullens
Michael Kidd-Gilchrist
Gerald Henderson
Kemba Walker

We will get to see Gilchrist, the second overall pick to debut. Although I am curious when Dunlap said that he may play MKD as a power forward against teams that go small.

Charlotte Bobcats opening their season with a win against the Indiana Pacers, 90-89. Ben Gordon made a three pointer for the go ahead basket as the Bobcats preserved the single point for the win.

Kemba Walker scored a game high 30 points. Gerald Henderson with 18 points.

Rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist struggled and debuted with 2 points, but had 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Ramon Sessions and Ben Gordon added 11 points and 10 points respectively.

Great win for the first NBA game of Mike Dunlap.

Guard Gerald Henderson will miss 2-4 weeks due to a sprained left foot.

Ramon Sessions forced overtime with a driving layup and the Bobcats got key baskets from Haywood, Mullens, Sessions and Walker. Rookie Michael Kidd-Gilchrist also made two pressure freethrows for the Bobcats to outlast the Dallas Mavericks in overtime 101-97.

Career high 25 points for MKD with 12 rebounds to add. Kemba Walkers scored 26 points.

Charlotte Bobcats bolstered their front-court with the acquisition of Hakim Warrick in exchange for sending shooter Matt Carroll to the New Orleans Hornets.

Kemba Walker saved the Bobcats last night. The story of the game was Reggie Williams tried calling timeout and it turned out that the Bobcats no longer have timeouts. Similar to the 1993 Chris Webber blunder.

Luckiy, Kemba sized up and used a drop step against Minnesota's Alexey Shved. Pulled up and swish, Bobcats winning.

Forward Tyrus Thomas will miss two months due to a torn muscle in his lower left leg.

Michael Jordan open to 'Hornets' moniker

Speculations from last year resurfacing, but it all hinges if the New Orleans Hornets drop the Hornets moniker and the Bobcats apply for a re-branding. Last season, prior to the acquisition of the Hornets, there were reports that the franchise is planning to re-brand.

MKG was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for November.

What surprised me is his defensive contributions in the wings for his first month. Back in college, his defensive skills were often overlooked due to Kentucky's uptempo attack and the presence of Anthony Davis Jr. in the paint.

Bobcats have lost ten straight games, an eery ghost from last season's Bobcats. Head coach Mike Dunlap stated that defense was non-existent from his players in the start of the first half. Dunlap also stated that a reshuffle of starters is in the horizon.

An 18 game losing streak. They had a bit of success early in November, but when teams are playing better, the Bobcats keep floundering due to offense going stale in crunch-time. Trust factor is a must now. They greet 2013 with from the ghosts of their 2012 disaster.

The Bobcats in need of change are reportedly in a trade discussion with the Brooklyn Nets. Reports state that the Bobcats plan to send guard Ben Gordon to the Nets in exchange for bigman Kris Humphries.

Byron Mullens with a monster double double of 25 points and a career high 18 rebounds to lead the Charlotte Bobcats in an upset win over the Boston Celtics 94-91. The back-court of Gerald Henderson and Kemba Walker combined for 34 points. Ramon Sessions with 19 points off the bench.

Bobcats managed to hold off a Celtics rally in the fourth after the Bobcats had a comfortable lead by the end of the third quarter.

The Charlotte Bobcats have acquired Josh McRoberts from the Orlando Magic in exchange for Hakim Warrick.

The Charlotte Bobcats have parted ways with head coach Mike Dunlap. Charlotte is said not to be in a hurry to name a new head coach.

As the head coach is vacant, the Bobcats are scheduled to hold preliminary talks with names like former Phoenix Suns coaches Alvin Gentry, Nate Tibbetts and Elston Turner.

The Charlotte Bobcats are reported to be in the initial process to once again don the Charlotte Hornets moniker as New Orleans are now known as the Pelicans.

I was reading that NBA commissioner to be Adam Silver told Bobcats season ticket holders that such a change would take at least 18 months to implement.... So i'm assuming it will be difficult for the name to be changed by the 2014-2015 season due to time constraints but for sure it can be accomplished before the start of the 2015-2016.
